Korean: 지 말다 Don't do, Let's not do, Shouldn't have done

  • In this lesson you will learn the grammatical construction 지 말다.
    지 말다 is used to tell a listener not to do something and how to express regret for past actions.

      Verb + 지 말았어야 하다.
      먹지 말았어야 했어요 (먹다)
      먹 + 지 말았어야 하다 + 였 + 어요
      I shouldn't have eaten.
      사지 말았어야 했어요 (사다)
      사 + 지 말았어야 하다 + 였 + 어요
      I shouldn't have bought.
      오지 말았어야 했어요 (오다)
      오 + 지 말았어야 하다 + 였 + 어요
      I shouldn't have come.
