James Dargan wrote "honey rock; wood valley" based upon his childhood memories and poetry by Langston Hughes. Performed by Aurora Musicalis String Quartet: Erin Zehngut and Emily Glover, violins; Amy Mason, viola; Elizabeth Beilman, cello.
Hello NCCMI crew! This is student Luke Sparacio! I've really enjoyed listening to Mr. Dargan's piece "Honey Rock; Wood Valley," which had some quite interesting dynamic shifts and beautiful fingerings. (Mr. Dargan himself had some excellent singing qualities!) "Hum" by Derrick Skye was also a unique piece, which was quite a contrast to "Honey Rock," featuring low melodic tones and the occasional lyric! Big congratulations to all the musicians and am looking forward to the rest of the Mendelssohn Octet!
This is Luke again! I also found the Mendelssohn Octet very pleasing to hear, and all four movements had their own unique melodies and tempos. This concert made for an enjoyable experience on a Sunday evening! Congratulations and thank you to all eight musicians for their exemplary performances and I look forward to the next IMPACT Concert!
