Q - Before we go into product improvements shouldn't we first identify well defined user segments for whom we want to improve Yelp? In the example you gave you choose consumers & business as the two segments. I wanted to check if we should have gone into segmenting these further before moving to solutions?

Would you recommend using the same framework you shared for the product design question, which is: goals > pain points > prioritize pain points > solutions?

Curious - How would you approach the response if the interviewer asks you about an app/product specifically that you have not used before, instead of asking you to pick an app yourself?
You'd want to spend a chunk of time in the beginning aligning on the product, how it works, its goals before you dive into how you would improve it. Don't be afraid to tell the interviewer you haven't used it and wanted to align with them on the product

I really like your videos but I'm having brain fog on how to think of different ways to improve like you did in this example. Would you have any tips on how to think of solutions like you did (i.e. creating elite community, adding upsell options, personalization)? How did you get better at thinking of different solutions?
this is the tough part, to be creative and formal when presenting these ideas in a span of several minutes...
Like Peter said, it definitely is tough so I empathize with that!
1) good solutions come naturally when you have well defined painpoints, so make sure your painpoints are clear
2) another neat trick is to combine various technologies and trends, which can help you come up with differentiating solutions

No need to segment users here! If you’re unsure you can always ask the interviewer
