As hard as it is to get rid of any goats, they do reproduce quite quickly so that when you are in a position to have a few more, it doesn't take long. You all have EXCELLENT lines, so no matter which ones you decide to retain, you will be set. And the families that get those you are selling will be getting excellent animals as well. ❤️ Excited for you all as you make this transition in your life.

My experience….we raise different poultry. When life changes, help is reduced…..things get out of hand quick. My advice is dont work so hard that you cant play. Keep things manageable. Don’t let the workload rob you of the “fun” feelings you once felt.

Derek & Crystal: I'm a city girl (really a city old lady!), but I can understand there are a great number of things you two must consider for your business AS WELL AS your personal lives. I certainly have no words of wisdom, only to say I wish you the best as you two plan your strategy.
Love your sense of humor, Derek. And it's quite clear you both love all the four-legged children on your farm (as well as those two-legged ones!).

I prayed. I’d had a good and safe delivery. It really is a difficult descision to choose just some. It would be good to keep one female from each mommy. And one boy from each adult buck you have. Perhaps one or two older bucks and four older girls. I really don’t know. It’s too hard of a descision. Sell all the others, you do not keep. I would not want to be in your situation as I love animals, but if they get a good home, then you’ve done the best you can do❤️🥰👍. Love you guys.❤️

I hear ya Derek....it's a lot to run a large herd of goats. Maybe it's time to go into a partnership with a few people who also have a passion for goats and place some of your older does that you still want to maybe get a kid back from with friends or new people who can be dedicated to holding and working with them for the next 2-3 years and have Crystal advise them on what bucks to breed to which does. Just a thought. If it was 3-4 years from now that you were trying to develop the new property and I was in a position to take a nice starter herd and hold them until Crystal was ready for a few kids back I'd do it in a moment, but I'm like you, just closed on a new property and in the middle of planning the build and move myself. I'm sure their are people out there that would work with you and Crystal to keep a strong herd going as well as work towards a common goal. Just have to find them.

Good morning. Derek I was looking at the weather channel and Arkansas seems to get a good bit of bad weather. May want to consider some type of storm cellar there. Also I know of 3 RUclips who have made major moves. One of them you delivered a kid to the other year. AL and Gina of lumnah acres, then there is "sow the land", and I think "roots and refuge" is the other one. They have all made a move to new property over the last 4 yrs. They may have some advice for Crystal and you on the best way to move your homestead. I sure hope Winnie does good. Tippy made me cry for her and Crystal. GOD bless you all.

    "...this is called shade"
    LMAO!
Thank you Derick! I needed that as sit outside here in Yuma "in the shade", thinking about how hot it is right now, and how it's just getting started.
Life in the desert...if you're a desert rat, you can definitely have a love/hate relationship with it.
Thank you for the quick update.
And yes, y'all have a lot going on, and I don't know how you do it.
There are a lot of hard working families out there. I happen to follow several, and I know that there are many more that I will never know about because they aren't on RUclips.
I hope each and everyone of those hard working families appreciate how lucky they are to have each other 🥹

For me and i know krystal too, keep all the goats!!! You Make money from the sale of the babies, make your soaps and get them into spas as well as what you're doing now. Also find a cheese making company that can make your brand cheese from your milk and sell it. You can even find a soap maker in your area to make it for you using your goat milk to free up more time.
PS: i dont have registered goats but i do have 50 Nigerian dwarfs that i love so much.

You have to make the herd more managable for the 2 of you so that comes with a lot hard decisions that you guys are going to have to make. I know you guys will do what is best for you guys and the goats and I will keep watching no matter what you decide.❤❤

I love each and every one of the creatures including the humans of BCDG ranch. But I think in reply to the question of ideas on how to proceed... a good rule of thumb to start with considering is if any goat that has had Crystal sobbing during or after the birth they might be good to rehome/retire. Crystal and even the goats' mental health needs more does that could birth alone if they needed to. Then of course once you've got the ladies population down, we take a look at the boys and if they can't breed more than say 3 of the remaining girls, or if they are a bit of a redundancy, it's time to rehome them. I hate saying all of this but Derek asked and I'm trying to answer as neutrally as I can. Much love to everyone! 💜

Think of what’s best for your family. This is the best time of your lives with them before they grow up. Can you afford to hire help? If not, then cutting down maybe what’s best. I’ve heard that writing down pros and cons is a great idea, so you can see your ideas on paper. And discuss them.

If you whittle it down some and feel you need to cut more, but just can't decide, a last resort solution would be to have a few "teams", like Cassie and Dreamer, Abeline and Pepper who alternate breeding each year. That way it cuts down on the work of kidding and milking, but you still have the diversity.

I know that this kidding season has been very very busy. You and your son were at the skinny property for a while leaving Crystal and Emily to work with the animals. My heart broke 💔for Crystal when she was trying to help the goat with the dead kid inside her. I love your family dynamics. All are hard workers, you love your animals, you love your children too, but that’s a lot of work for two people. Now the children are getting older are they wanting to take over the business? Yes I can see you have a lot of things to think about. I wish you the best.

Could you adjust the feed for those not pregnant. I understand that the girls are showing could maybe pick the girls from different age groups breed them to keep them in milk for the shows and for soap
Just thought it may help from a different perspective. It would be sad to see some of the girls leave you get to know each of them and their funny personalities. I hope all is well and everyone is safe.
