3 years is a punitive penalty for peaceful protest yet Channel 4 does not question this level of authoritariansim. We'll see what the appeal says and whether Channel 4 later agrees it is punitive.
As for peaceful protest, strikes are peaceful yet Sunak and his government refuse to engage in a meaningful manner. If they fail to respond to this simple demand than they will effectively allow peaceful, disruptive protest to go ahead.
Why not citizen's assemblies? More democracy is surely good. A reasonable thing to ask for.
Because there's been no organization to do so. XR are taking the right steps in changing tactics but the best way they could do it is by going door to door and organising various events to appeal to all walks of life as the reality is it's very hard to attract every demographic to one type/style of event. Then you persuade people to gradually rise up together through mass communication. They have the numbers of people to make that happen.
Because it will be the middle class liberal none liberals who will dominate. You treat us the proletariat with contempt!
I guess nation states don't like admitting how impotent they have been made by globalisation. The need for citizens' assemblies is revealing of how outmoded our governents are.

i just doubt that the politicians are still listening to any peaceful protests these days. i think they have learned the lesson, that most protest can just be ignored without consequences....unless its a protest you cant ignore.
because talk is cheap. politicians prove this to us day after day after day. blablablabla, but do nothing. and they also know its often the same the other way round. just let them protest until they are exhausted of achieving nothing and go away. even costs nothing, not even time to listen.
but when people do some active peaceful resisting, they have to DO something. and so there is more pressure on them to deal with the matter. even if its just out of inconvenience. as we all know is probably the strongest motivator we can deliver to them within the range of peaceful protest. because they dont care jack shit about our kids' futures.

The reason your rebellion is floundering is because you have a piss poor understanding of basic science. Wearing coats in late April says two things. 1. Pampered Students aren't willing to face the cold and rain to protest about increasing global temperatures!2.the British public no longer tolerate the likes of Pippa, Felicity, Joshua. Who use Daddy's credit card to travel to London on a jolly weekend.

Avid supporter of XR since the start, arrested in London 2019 during the International Rebellion, completely lost interest in their performative self-actualisation street theater style of ineffective protests, especially when I saw Gail Bradbrook talk about BDSM infront of a crowd with children & make the crowd of (99% white) protesters appropriate some south american meditation ritual
Its Theatre!
There's definitely a place for street theatre in activism. And there's nothing wrong with using things from other cultures as long as it's done sensitively. Meditation belongs to all human beings.
