Your reviews have saved me a ton of money over the years of watching and enjoying your videos. My first pick set was a mid line made in China so it worked okay but now I have “retired” them and now use Sparrow picks with a small Southord set for backup. Thank you for your honest reviews and opinions with locks and the related tools to pick them open. I have learned a great deal from your videos.
Just getting into this after stumbling across your videos on RUclips. Look forward to more videos...love the common sense type of talk you do in your videos as well
Well done Bill for showing the junk peddled on these online fleet market sites. Personally I've been using souber padlock shims for years now you get what you pay for
Really wish you wouldn’t mince words 😜... thanks for the heads-up on the shims 👍🏻 Good solution on the battery as well! The old adage rings true ... “You get what you pay for” Which I like to state as “You don’t get what you don’t pay for” ... Thanks!
I've made several out of old pop cans, folded them over and threw electrical tape over them. They work fantastic. They may not last very long, but they don't cost $25 either.
First of all, you have already saved me a few bucks by doing reviews and I really appreciate it. Secondly, I been wondering how the heck you work around a camera, very cool. It looks so good when I watch it, I had pictured a channel ? news crew over your shoulder. Hahahaha
I have the good ones. After watching one of Bill's old video's I bought the cheap ones just for the plastic guards. Pull them off the cheap one's put them on the good one's.
Another risk involved with using aluminium shims is the potential for the shim to tear and the tip gets jammed inside the lock. Sometimes you can get the broken piece out with a screwdriver or pushpin tip if there's enough of the broken shim exposed for you to grip onto.
Really appreciated the bit on the dummy battery, but haven't found one for my Panasonic lumix, the code of the original battery is DMW BCM13E , anyone knows where to buy one ? thanks
hey, my uncle recently purchased a few second hand combination safes which he wants to re sell,he unfortunately doesn't have the codes. is there a good way to open the safes without damaging them?
Got the Sparrows ones...and they haven't worked on anything and bent up like they were cheap Chinese steel...which is funny because says "made in china" on the bag they came in.
Thanks for this video. I want to buy some shims and was looking at prices. I will go with sparrows or southord shims. I might buy a klom shim kit just to collect. I am going to take your locksmithing classes and would like to do forensic locksmithing.
@@bosnianbill bill on Adrian's channel he states that you told him the abus 64ti/50 isn't shimmable but the shackle set up looks like its doable. Others also state emphatically that it is but no ones done it on film. I've looked at my two and im like you its bloody tight for a shim but Adrian states that when closed the locking lugs are held in place by a ball bearing arrangement. So .... can you show us? Thanks in advance.
The sparrow ones work great. They only work on cheaper padlocks where the tolerances arent so good. Nothing to it though, theres really not anything to practice.
No recollection why I needed that (alcohol has no effect on me; I really have no idea why I bother drinking anymore) Should I need this in the foreseeable, I'll let you know thanks Bill!
Doubt it - they wanted a registration and stuff - I just wanted to talk to Bill in private. Hey ho, here we go... Anyway, all I was going to say is that after the warning a while back about the Patreon thing, I switched to chipping in via Paypal, but I no longer get the 'advance' emails. Is this something someone here might be able to look into for me please? Thanks! k
Those cheap shims remind me of the first pick kit I bought. They where a very cheap set of goso picks that I bought for 5 bucks on some site. They where clearly just punched out some cheap metal. I even broke one after like a month or so of using it.
I found these type of shims have never opened a single padlock I came across. Idk they were high end sparrows shims so I know it’s not a quality control problem.
It were a no-brainer if I could get the Sparrows for those 25 $. According to their website, they cost 26.95 Canadian $. But with shipping (15 $), import fees (17.42 €) and currency translation fees, they cost around 50 € (60 US $). That leaves me no choice but to go for the chinese crap. If it doesn't work, I'll have to try to pick the locks in another way, or just give up.
@@theprofessional8966 That would make me a burglar and I would sooner or later go to jail. And the owners would improve security. However, I meanwhile found out that the chinese shims are worthless but the Sparrows shims are equally worthless because the locks (Evva etc.) used in my country can't be shimmed.
Cheap Chinese crap is crap, go figure. I feel bad for the people that buy these recycled soda cans expecting to be able to use them as intended. Thanks for what you do Tribe Leader, and yay for the new camera accessories!
Awsome vidio, again. But, you don't like to cut your fingers. I have notised that every time you post, you got fresh and new cuts on your fingers. I think, your even more unlucky than myself. Keep your fingers save. :-) And keep the good work flow'in.
Why not just glue the blue grips on so they don't slide off? And if they bend you can simply tap it back to straight for next use. It really takes nothing to turn cheap things into very usable things. I've just always had to make do with what I've had laying around or what I could find in a pinch. I'm not wealthy to put it mildly, so cheap things are what I'm forced to buy 99% of the time and yet I never seem to run into the issues that other people always seem to have with cheap things.
Did you really remove the rubber covers, which are put on there to prevent you cutting yourself, and then complain they were sharp?? Also - would have been nice to see you actually open the lock.
FYI, the shims do not come with "covers to prevent you cutting yourself"... They arrive from the manufacturer bare metal. Some of the really cheap Chinese aluminum shims DO come with plastic covers, but only because their edges are unfinished and razor sharp. Tip: Assuming everyone but you is stupid is no way to go through life. I may not be the brightest bulb in the house, but removing safety measures isn't in my repertoire.
Oh, and I think Daniu is Chinese 大牛 (big cow), but since 'cow' could be short for 牛逼 (awesome), it could be someone calling their own company 'badass' or the like... Either way, probably Chinese product...
Phroggster hey I have never been notified that quick about a video. I enjoy all of b.b. videos. I think what I'm trying to say is if you don't like my comment fuck off don't read it
I gotta say, this channel honestly promotes the wrong message. Lock manipulating should be kept to the locksmiths, who properly use their skill for efficient use, not on RUclips for the public to see. When you throw things out on the internet like this, it just makes it easier for the bad guys to win and gain more followers. Come on now... lock picking, really?
This channel promotes the good message: there's a lot of overpriced and overrated shitty stuff in the locks industry. Don't rely on a rate 10 Masterlock to protect your jewelry against robbers since it would barely protect candy bars against your 8 year old sister.
You know what guys? You're all being really ignorant right now. Ya can't tell me these videos promote positivity and safety! Now all the bad guys are gonna learn to get into your house. How do you like that? Leave the lock knowledge to the lock pros!

Hey good vid i came across you’re channel a while ago and I’ve been bingeing videos and brought my own lock picking set thx man for the entertainment
I only got a cheap set for the handles lol...now i have super southord shims
Excellent video. Much better than the other 4 I watched before this one. Thanks for the recco on Sparrows.

Thanks Bill, enjoy your informative channel and thanks for sharing your knowledge. Appreciate it.
Buy the $2.47 ones and put the plastic handles on the Southord or Sparrows shims. Would they fit?
ezdankie that exactly what I did and they did fit my Southord set a treat it just makes the set more bulky.
Thanks! I was going to buy from Sparrows then i saw the price. I came to your video just to confirm they were worth it.
Nice video..............
Just got the danu shims. They work of for smaller low security padlocks
"4 most common" should be read as," For the most common."
Thank you for the videos you do I learned a lot from you now my work keep coming to me if they need something open or lost there key thank you
Thanks for the camera battery information!!!
Awesome! A few months ago, i built my own dummy batteries for my coffee stirrer.
Thanks for all the great content (:
Thanks for the great videos. You've really helped me find a clue.
Once again, an honest and great review and giveaway....Thank You
Yeah, I got bit by the banggood set, at least they were cheap. In to the trash bin with them.
Bill, those shims match the color of your sweater. :)
Really appreciated the bit on the dummy battery, but haven't found one for my Panasonic lumix, the code of the original battery is DMW BCM13E , anyone knows where to buy one ? thanks
Digging that dummy battery
Today we are taking a look at shims at 4 different price points and rating which we think is best
Great video. Thanks 🍀🇮🇪
Yeah definitely buy spring steel, my southord's are doing well. But shims still need practice and some locks can be a real pain.
Got the cheapos $2.50. On ebay. Only lock I can open with it is the plastic see thru practice lock. Thanks for the vid.
Great video and review!! Thanks
Another great video
Thanks for sharing this information with us...!
Have a great day and Be Blessed...!
Just bought the Klom set, opened only 1 padlock... Can help but not really a good product...
I will buy the sparrows shims soon! ^^
How do you enter the giveaway
New to the channel, great info.. Thank You
How do determine which side of the padlock shackle to put the shim in?
I never win anything but would love to have that set
Thanks Chuck
the old saying ..... you get what you pay for. i bought sparrows shims long ago and they still work. original set
Bill I see you got in a fight with a Phillips head screw driver!!!!!!!
I've done that so many times I know the wound.
One of MANY self-inflicted accidents.... When you work with tools all the time, stuff happens.😋
hey, my uncle recently purchased a few second hand combination safes which he wants to re sell,he unfortunately doesn't have the codes. is there a good way to open the safes without damaging them?
There are a couple of videos from Bill about combination locks
do they apply to safes?
It would apply to a very cheep safe, call a professional unless its a cheep safe.
Got the Sparrows ones...and they haven't worked on anything and bent up like they were cheap Chinese steel...which is funny because says "made in china" on the bag they came in.
Tganks for the info bro!
Thanks for this video. I want to buy some shims and was looking at prices.
I will go with sparrows or southord shims. I might buy a klom shim kit just to collect.
I am going to take your locksmithing classes and would like to do forensic locksmithing.
are double locking locks safe from shimsing ?
Do the handles work on the nice shims?
Very nice sir 👍
Sometimes it's better to pay more. My fingers are worth more than $2.50, I hope.
Yes they are. I'd GLADLY pat $2.50to NOT get cut...😀

You use these often?
Thanks for the demo, I almost bought one of those cheap sets. Did I miss someplace how I can enter your giveaway?
Cool video man
i was going to cut up a can lol
if done properly, is better than the Chinese ones. Though they are more/less single use...
I didn’t see the giveaway on the lock lab page? Was it only on the one day?
Good video
Can they be used more than 1 time
Last chance to get Scrooge Pins from Sparrows, until next year.
The usual case is I've no need for a shim, until the day I do. So I wonder about making a shim from coke can.
I'd love to check them out just to practice opening locks.
They don't work.
The sparrow ones work great.

I know the sparrow ones are high quality. Thanks for all concerned.
Shims, good shims are the way to go. Cheap ones are crap.
So what is the purpose of shims?
avalon449 its a padlock bypass
Cat's been at it with your fingers again, Bill? ;-)
I bought a set just like that for about $2.00 on eBay. They're terrible. I've never gotten them to work.
I bought a set of those cheap ones from eBay for $3 and I couldn't get any of them to work and ended up throwing them away
thanks for the hack!
Hey Bill, I did message you a few vids ago about this stuff - is there a forum where we could chat privately

summer curve nope, but I ordered some good ones from amazon uk..
Theyre exactly the same as the sparrows, but sold under Southord name
Ok ty
I got the cloms from wish.com for 3.00 lol
