This time I had to sleep early for Ace Attorney but I've been enjoying these morning and afternoon guerrilla Balatros I took the risk of picking up the game myself because it looked really fun watching you play. Hoping and praying I have the self-control to still get done what I need to even with that temptation. I managed it last night anyway so we'll see. For me it has a similar appeal to Slay the Spire or Hades where it's fun to think through how to create a coherent build from whatever fortune tosses your way. But it's a lot more stripped down, which has its own appeal. Plus I never really played poker growing up, but now I'm finally learning poker hands Watching you has definitely helped me appreciate roguelikes more; Hades was pretty much the only one I had tried before watching you play Slay the Spire convinced me to check it out, but they fit really well how I play games now, usually just in one- or two-hour bursts.

To justify the hand juggling pains a bit: just like Jokers, cards in hand too can have +Mult (suit Jokers, Empress Tarot boost, etc) and xMult (Glass cards, Photograph Joker, etc), and in the most basic scenario you want the xMult on the right. In your specific example, Wrathful Joker gave every Spade +3 mult, then Photograph Joker gave the first face x2 mult, so you wanted the first face card to have as many Spades before it so the value that gets multiplied by 2 is as high as possible (compare 3*2+3+3+3+3=18 and (3+3+3+3+3)*2=30 - that's from those Jokers alone). But then there are things that turn that rule upside down and require a card to be moved towards left, like Photograph working on the first face card played. With the Red Seal Queen, you needed it to be to the left of all the other face cards so the Red Seal re-triggered the Photograph. It's impossible to make this any simpler than "look at all your Jokers and think how they interact", no _perfect_ hard-and-fast rule because there are too many different Jokers. But since there's rarely time to explain it, chat tries to simplify anyway and confusion ensues 😄

This time I had to sleep early for Ace Attorney but I've been enjoying these morning and afternoon guerrilla Balatros I took the risk of picking up the game myself because it looked really fun watching you play. Hoping and praying I have the self-control to still get done what I need to even with that temptation. I managed it last night anyway so we'll see. For me it has a similar appeal to Slay the Spire or Hades where it's fun to think through how to create a coherent build from whatever fortune tosses your way. But it's a lot more stripped down, which has its own appeal. Plus I never really played poker growing up, but now I'm finally learning poker hands Watching you has definitely helped me appreciate roguelikes more; Hades was pretty much the only one I had tried before watching you play Slay the Spire convinced me to check it out, but they fit really well how I play games now, usually just in one- or two-hour bursts.

To justify the hand juggling pains a bit: just like Jokers, cards in hand too can have +Mult (suit Jokers, Empress Tarot boost, etc) and xMult (Glass cards, Photograph Joker, etc), and in the most basic scenario you want the xMult on the right.
In your specific example, Wrathful Joker gave every Spade +3 mult, then Photograph Joker gave the first face x2 mult, so you wanted the first face card to have as many Spades before it so the value that gets multiplied by 2 is as high as possible (compare 3*2+3+3+3+3=18 and (3+3+3+3+3)*2=30 - that's from those Jokers alone).
But then there are things that turn that rule upside down and require a card to be moved towards left, like Photograph working on the first face card played. With the Red Seal Queen, you needed it to be to the left of all the other face cards so the Red Seal re-triggered the Photograph.
It's impossible to make this any simpler than "look at all your Jokers and think how they interact", no _perfect_ hard-and-fast rule because there are too many different Jokers. But since there's rarely time to explain it, chat tries to simplify anyway and confusion ensues 😄
