Shouka, Orkid, Nakai and the Red Buoy (Shamu Skywalks at SeaWorld San Diego 12/14/12)

  • All five whales were gated into this back pool and given ice treats and a big red buoy. Ikaika and Kasatka weren't as interested but the way Shouka, Orkid, and Nakai played with it was incredible! I thought this was a great example of secondary reinforcement: for gating into the back pool, the whales were rewarded with ice and a toy, which are things they don't need to survive but still find rewarding.
    EDIT: If anyone wants to know what happened after the videos cuts (I stopped filming to take pics), they kept playing with it until Shouka knocked it out of the pool twice.

    Haha, this is so cute! Notice how they are sharing up the ball and normally take two to three hits before letting the next orca go, this is proof of their intelligence, and how close they are to their pod! This also proves that they think of each other as a pod!

    Honestly it was scary how Orkid and Nakai played with it, but at the same time very cool! I wish I could've filmed more but I settled on taking pictures instead. Thank you so much!

      It’s great footage. SeaWorld should hire you to do promotional stuff. I mean, you’re there all the time anyway.

    Glad you liked it! I wish they got toys more often too.
    Answer: No, but Shouka threw the ball out of the water twice and after the second time the trainers didn't put it back in the water for them.

    That's so incredible ,sooner or later there will be the first championship of volleyball only for Orcas and besides I have noticed that Nakai's wound under his jaw is getting better.

    That was the first time I've seen ANY whale play with an EED like that!! That was so much fun to watch! Also, what happened to Nakai's lower jaw? In previous replies ppl have talked about how his "wound is healing." Just curious is all. :)

    If that had been a sea lion, and if these whales were in their natural environment, that sea lion would have been dead. That's how these whales hunt, in a group, they work together.

    I'm assuming you work there or are closely affiliated with Sea World, because idk how else you would get such amazing videos, but how is Tilikum, I worry about him and his health. I've always had a soft spot for Tili and I know how rough his life has been in the past and I just want him to be healthy and happy.

    • @Echobeluga
      @Echobeluga  9 лет назад

      I'm just a fan and the last time I saw him was in September 2013, but he looked quite healthy. He did Dine With Shamu 2 out of 5 days (more might've been nice exercise wise and all but it probably depended more on his attitude than anything) and I saw him playing with toys a lot. He was also with Trua a lot of the time and played with him too. I hear recently Trua has been separated from the females and thus spends a lot more time with him and that he does more shows now. You can find all my videos of him here: ruclips.net/user/Echobelugasearch?query=tilikum

    • @christinawiesemann1425
      @christinawiesemann1425 9 лет назад +1

      EchoBeluga I just saw this comment and wanted to reply. Trua has been separated from the females due to his trying to mate with them. As Nalani and Malia are not of age it would only seem logical to move him in with his gramps (Tilly). Lol. I have a friend who works at Shamu Stadium in Orlando. :) She says Trua can be a bit of a butt when it comes to the females. He's a lot like his Uncle Ike. Haha.

      +Maggie Lano Tilikum was reported a few days ago to be sick and he doesn't have much time. I assume that his age has weakened his immune system so Orlando is loosing its star.
      Tilikum didn't have a far worse life than the others. He was just kind of an old grump. He has been described as calm but independent.

      +Melissa Gray They avoid comparing it to the whales themselves cause comparing it to the ocean makes their ass catch on fire. And what they ignore is that killer whales do not roam freely across the ocean.

    • @dimitristsekeris1821
      @dimitristsekeris1821 7 лет назад +1

      I am not asking anything stupid. You said that there are lots of amazing places in the ocean for marine animals like them to visit and they have lots of stimulation. And I asked you to give me examples. You don't need to get angry just because I questioned your claims.

    • @dimitristsekeris1821
      @dimitristsekeris1821 7 лет назад +1

      You are obviously resorting to insults cause you don't have a reply.
      It's normal that you do not have a reply cause wild killer whales only
      hunt. This is something captive killer whales also do IN ADDITION to all
      the other stuff they do, like the thing with the red buoy on the video
      above.

    • @dimitristsekeris1821
      @dimitristsekeris1821 7 лет назад

      I didn't deny that you said these stuff. You just bashed me for sstuff that I never said.
      I asked you what other forms of stimulatins besides from hunting wild Orcas have and what "amazing places" they see while travelling in the sea. But you keep avoiding to give a response and you resort to cursing. Not that I expect you to really respond.
