Lyrics:
Big Sam left Seattle in the year of ninety-two
With George Pratt his partner and brother Billy too
They crossed the Yukon river and they found the bonanza gold
Below that old white mountain
Just a little south-east of Nome
Sam crossed the Majestic mountains to the valleys far below
He talked to his team of huskies
As he mushed on through the snow
With the northen lights a-runnin' wild
In the land of the midnight sun
Yes Sam McCord was a mighty man
In the year of nineteen-one
Where the river is windin' big nuggets they're findin'
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
George turns to Sam with his gold in his hand
Said Sam you're lookin' at a lonely lonely man
I'd trade all the gold that's buried in this land
For one small band of gold to place on sweet little Jenny's hand
'Cause a man needs a woman to love him all the time
Remember Sam a true love is so hard to find
I'd build for my Jenny a honeymoon home
Below that old white mountain
Just a little south-east of Nome
Where the river is windin' big nuggets they're findin'
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
Tanks.s letter....from Brazil ..
Queen of Country Are you aware of the glaring flaw with the lyrics?
The song has him going to Alaska by dog sled.
In the movie he went by boat.
It's one of Hollywood's most hilarious faux pas of all time!
I love this!❤❤❤
merveilleux vidéo.... merci pour cette belle Nature,,
I grew up listening to this great old song as my parents listened to country music exclusively. I cannot imagine any other country singer who could've sung this song so beautifully. Dwight has such a talent with his voice.
I didn't know Dwight did this song, too. I was born in Alaska and I've been hearing and singing Johnny Horton's song since I was a toddler in 1960. I've been away from Alaska for 14 years. These photos sure make me homesick.
It's got a great beat, he puts a good spin on it. Good job Dwight 🇨🇦
One of my all-time favourite country singers. The images are gorgeous.
Love this song so much - I blast it in my car often as I listen to my favorite playlists on my cell phone while driving! 😍👋
Do same thing on my stereo system at home sounds awesome outside late at night out in the sticks wear I live in East Freetown New York it just resonates off the hills
Excellent interpretation by DY of North to Alaska. Beautiful.
Can't say Dwight's version is better than Johnny Horton, but is still pretty darned good. Love the slide show.
Love you dwigh all ways you are the best
The pics distort reality. It rains a lot, it's gray a lot, skeeters are bad,and cold most of the year.Takes a special breed to live there.
Definitely not better, but nothing at all wrong with it.
@@marydavenport3034 , Yet you don’t mention how great our summers are?😉🤣
He puts his own spin on the song which is pretty good.🇨🇦

I really like Dwights version, and Pete plays some great guitar here. I wish he and Dwight would patch things up and get back together.

Pete Anderson

I rekon Dwight mite have Done it

Nobody does it better than Johhny Horton. Sorry, but Dwight's version is too twangy for my liking; everybody likes something different.
Beautiful pictures.
Mr Hortons version is the absolute best, but if anyone could do this song justice it’s Dwight Yoakam..
Very nice smart man
Damn, that's 2nd only to Horton!
BR 2021
Let's go north Alaska where going to north Alaska see white mountain 🏔️ north Alaska beautiful white mountain
The river is winding
McNuggets they're finding
I love this version. That low twangy riff (baritone guitar?), chugging beat, the high harmonies, etc. good song!
To .uch advertisements exsecpcially during cut between the songs advertisements breaking in then playing the last 50 seconds of the song that not rite
I apologize for the advertising, I do not earn a penny from the advertising, the money goes to the artist, songwriter etc.

Ireally like this version better than the old one.
Nice but I like Johnny Horton better. Dwight is cuter though!
And that damn bass solos.....
Hi Juliettev
Not bad
That single guitar needs to be dropped off in the nearest dumpster. The balance is pretty awesome otherwise!
This is the only Dwight Yoakam song I've ever heard him sing where his voice sounds like a baby pig caught under a fence gate. What gives? I hope it doesn't become a habit. He sings so well on everything else.
