      even if that truck was empty it was way overweight. 3 tons = 6,000 lbs , my Chevy 3500 Van weighs 6,000 lbs completely empty. an F750 with a dumb bed has to weight at least 11,000 lbs empty. I do hope they charge him for damages. Stupid tax.

      Yeah no kidding. Even if it’s not posted as a commercial truck driver I know that most wooden bridges have a max limit of 5 tons that’s 10,000 pounds an empty dump truck weighs more than that. Hell loaded with gravel he was probably 60,000 pounds seriously like who thinks he wooden bridge is going to support 30 tons of weight good grief Charlie Brown. 😮

      @@RustyZipper so in your logic, if you’re driving over the speed limit around a sharp curve and end up in the trees, it wasn’t your fault but the curve in the road? Or if a plane is overweight and falls out of the sky, it was gravity’s fault? Too many people on an elevator and it gets stuck? It’s the elevator’s fault. Or the trucks that get “Storrowed” - it wasn’t me, the bridge is too low. Regulations and signs are there for a reason. Ignore them at your risk, and you should be held responsible if you cause damage.

      13 ton isn't that heavy. What happens of there is a house fire? The firetruck has to have onboard water for these rural locations. I'm not saying every bridge needs to be 40 ton but they should all be strong enough for firetrucks.

      @@RobbyO-p5p a single axle dump truck can weigh up to 15K lbs...and with standard hydraulic brakes can be driven by anyone with a Class C license. Once loaded it becomes a different story depending on the weight of the load. If the weight is under 26K lbs by even 1 lb it doesn't require a CDL. 25,999 lbs(with standard hydraulic brakes) can be legally operated by a person holding a Class C. See the problem here? Any company that manages to aquire insurance to cover drivers 21 or older can put these trucks on the road. Now imagine someone who is completely ignorant of truck and load weights and you have a guaranteed CATASTROPHE waiting to happen.

    A few years back someone tried to drive a loaded cement truck across a covered bridge in Jackson, N.H., that didn't go well either.

      The driver was fired on the spot. NHDOT did an amazing job getting it fixed. I was involved in a support role. KUDOS to nhdot bridge maintenance crew 8 that got it done. Unfortunately this happens several times to multiple covered bridges in nh over the last decade.

    I went on street view and while there are weight signs maybe a mile form the bridge coming from each side (3 ton limit) But only height restrictions at the bridge itself. It's hard to believe there's no weight sings at the bridge itself, but he did pass the weight signs and beyond that, imagine you're driving a loaded dump truck and you approach what's clearly a small historic bridge. Use common sense.

      Maybe the street view images are old. Signs could have been posted since those images were taken. Roads like this do not change very often so I doubt frequent updates to the images are necessary.

    According to Fords website, a gasoline engine F750 dump truck weighs 33,000 pounds loaded. A diesel equipped one can weigh up to 37,000 pounds depending on equipment. (Backhoe, crane, loader) Call it 16-17 tons fully loaded. Empty weight, without fuel or dump bed is 5600 pounds. Add 1750 pounds for the dump bed. Dual 80 gallon tanks on either side, at approximately 6.5 pounds per gallon.

    It's obvious that there isn't much to investigate. The driver of the truck is responsible for the damage to the bridge. His truck weighs more than the bridge's weight limit empty, let alone with a load of gravel.

    I’m working on the highway, we’ve had the lanes restricted for 3 months and speed limit cut to 45mph, the state police have to watch out for us everyday to keep us from getting ran over by the semis going thru, they pulled a guy over in a semi last week, he was here in the US illegally, no driver’s license much less a cdl, and he was going 71 in a 45 mph construction zone, and loaded at 84,000lbs, 🙄 we can thank the truck companies that build these trucks, and decided that automatic transmissions are the way to go, the fact it took a certain level of skill to be able to even shift a big truck kept a lot of the idiots from thinking they can drive one, now look! 👍 way to go now we got cab drivers driving 18 wheelers.

    This has to be some kind of joke. How could someone not know that the 15+ ton truck they are driving would be too heavy for a bridge with a 3 ton weight limit?
    I have an old station wagon that weighs about 2 1/2 tons and I wouldn't have driven it across that bridge.

    What is someone’s thought process when they approach a historic WOODEN bridge in a heavier than average vehicle weighed down further with a heavy load?
    My guess is social media, txt messages, or daydreaming about not being behind the wheel of a vehicle… while operating a vehicle. Complacent is the average American’s middle name anymore.

    2021 Ford F-750 (Straight Frame): Can haul 30,200-33,000 lbs, with a maximum of 37,000 lbs Can't read, or just a dumb shit with a class B lic Site the guy and I guess his insurence buy's a bridge. It's got to be a limited investigation.

      F750 Can be ordered with 25,999 lb GVWR for non-CDL use.
      Even so, the Tare weight is over 3 ton for that vehicle equipped with a standard dump body.

    There's a old covered bridge in my area. The county had to constantly repair the bridge because trucks or camper s kept trying to drive over it. When there a road to go around the bridge. They put a heavy steel beam a few feet in front of the bridge. And they still try to drive over the bridge.
