sorry everybody, i made a mistake in the credits: it was mick gordon who made the doom eternal main menu theme not mick grodon. very confusing i know, i mix up the two of them all the time.
Doom 3 was my first doom game so i had nothing to complain back then. Yes you are right that they really focused on lighting very much. I still remember a section where you have to escort a scientist and there was a moving source of light along which you have to escort him surrounded by complete darkness and enemies jumping you from all sides. I was so scared. I love games which give you memorable fight sequence like Bioshock , Halo, Prey. Yes this was more a horror game and less a traditional Doom game but I give credit to developers to that they brought a game from an older era to new era. I see many games die when there is a change of era or generation. Contra, Duke Nukem , and many failed while Wolfenstein and Doom succeeded. I wonder how many titles will succeed when we make jump from 3d games to VR games.
It was a nice video bust before conclusion. I was a Doom fan who found D3 as an excellent evolution of series to something more serious than just a keycard shooter with goofy monsters. And I would want Doom 4 over silly D2106/DEternal abominations. D3 is the best thing that happened with the series
I liked the moment where you mention that the doom guy did a 420 no scope and fisted a Demon, and then Donkey Kong popped up and fought the Doom guy in an easter egg, truly amazing. A game way ahead of it's time 10/10
11:17 I think its because of dhewm3's (the source port you're using) weird audio volume adjustments where some sound effects are loud and some are quiet, ex. the plasma and machine gun's firing sounds are loud but the shotgun and chaingun are somewhat quiet even though the chaingun was loud in the original exe. which resulted me on making an addon where the volume was balanced so that you can hear the gun sounds like in the original exe.
oh shit i knew i wasnt crazy! i first played without a source port years ago and thought my memory was going bad because i couldve sworn the chaingun was louder. thanks for the info, good to know
Using Goblin's theme for Deep Red in the intro: I can already tell you got good tastes, sir. DooM 3 is, indeed, for good and bad, the black sheep of the series, and I still like it. I still do not like the shotgun much, but I got what ID was trying to do with it.
I played doom 3 for the first time when it came out for the psvr. It got me to try out the psvr aim controller too. Loved it. Back when I was younger in the mid 2000s, I remember seeing the cover and looking at the images in the back, I could only imagine the story and mysteries behind this game. I didn't know much about the doom series until I played the 90s doom on my first generation iPhone. Anyways, I got to try doom 3 psvr edition for the first time maybe last year and love it. And I have not beaten doom 2016 yet, which I got when it came out.
When I was a little, I used to watch G4TV all the time. They always showed Doom 3. I had never played a Doom, but I thought Doom 3 looked sooo cooooool!!!! Then I finally played it like, 10 years later, and to be honesty...I did not like it, both for reasons you stated, and other reasons. I don't think it's a BAD game, but man, lil kid me would have been more frustrated than scared.
Aka when Doom wanted to be Half Life. In the end FEAR and Dead Space both do what doom 3 did but better doom 3 is good but it’s the definition of a 7/10. quake 4 is what people wanted doom 3 to be
14:28 you are the only person in any universe who thinks having to switch to the flash light is a good design choice. When I played through the BFG edition, the only one I'd played, in 2020, this game was like Dead Space 1 to me. It was still tense, I was still on my toes, and I still jumped out of my seat. I've talked to racists, flat earthers, the edgiest atheists, and LGBPedos, and this opinion on thr Doom 3 flashlight is by far the most contrairian "opinion" I've ever come across.
@@Yeij yeah, thats part of the hyperbole lol. The opinion is just that out there. "I actually like the vanilla doom 3 flashlight" Call your mom and tell her that. I bet you cant.
Doom 3 is ok, but it's clearly a tech demo. It's also not Doom. Unreal Tournament 2004 and Painkiller, which came out before Doom 3 on the same year, are way better. There's also Doom 64, which is the real Doom 3. Here's something you didn't bring up when talking about the base game. They took out the double-barrel shotgun. You know, the series' most iconic weapon. Ok, I have to get this out. The flashlight in the original was a thing because of limitations. id Software wanted the player to be able to use both the flashlight and gun at the same time, but performance limitations such as having two rendered dynamic light sources taxing on the hardware at the time prevented them from going with it. I find it weird and a bit annoying when people call an obvious limitation "intentional" and that it's the way the game was meant to be played while the shoulder mounted flashlight in the BFG Edition is considered "sacrilege." As for the BFG Edition itself, it was id Software trying to make the game play more like classic Doom. The problem is that it was done poorly. They also cut out content from the original game for some strange reason.
just finished the 360 version... tbh this game is absolute trash 😂🤷🏻♂️ leveldesign = trash (that teleporter section🙄), combat = trash(enrmies spawning left right and center making encounters unfair as fuck. you need to memorize them which takes all fun away), weapons = trash (reloading in a doom game🙄). it isnt even a doom game. it is some kind of messed up survival horror shooter. this clusterfuck of a game is a big ego trip of the developers back then.

sorry sir very sorry sir i apologize for this inconvenience sir
it's very scary indeed had to click away due to how scary it was.
The best way to play Doom 3 is the original but with the Flashlight mod ;)
to each our own. to be honest i havent tried playing doom 3 with that mod but if it's like bfg edition i think i'll still prefer the original
Aka when Doom wanted to be Half Life. In the end FEAR and Dead Space both do what doom 3 did but better doom 3 is good but it’s the definition of a 7/10. quake 4 is what people wanted doom 3 to be
nicely worded, pretty much sums up doom 3. not bad but it's been outdone by others
