This song makes me cry happy tears every time. It fits the scene so well, opening in tragedy and solemnity to the abyss and what lies beyond. The grande sense of wonder after your life is completely uprooted and you truly have to start from square one. Takes me back to bring a kid in that theater. I go back to this song regularly now as a grown man. Thank you Thomas Newman and supporting talents for creating this masterpiece and many others from American Beauty to Elemental.
Thomas Newman supposedly wrote this to sound like the ocean... incredible how Alan Menken was given pretty much the exact same assignment 14 years before with The Little Mermaid, and the two composers got completely different yet equally amazing concepts out of it that each fit the tone of their respective movies perfectly.
