    just wondering does anyone know the history of interaccial relationships between irish immigrants and freed black or black immigrants, apartnely we were all put in one sector of the community and both cultures made 'tap dancing' a cross of irish and black culture, l also believe that the first wave of mixed race children (that werent forced to breed to make) came from these 2 groups, as an lrish person (in lreland) the black community and its cause means alot to me and in my life ive been protected against prejudice by some very powerful black people

      I’m American and I believe anyone who is a refugee or fleeing any hardship, who has respect for other cultures, gender equality, love, and class/worker solidarity is worth having in our country. my country’s anti-immigration laws and its hand in displacing and criminalizing families is disgusting to me. You can be proud of your culture and where you came from without enforcing your beliefs and traditions on others.
      Edit: I should add I am not indigenous to America, and believe the stolen land and whitewashing of their culture and children was an act of genocide. I believe in decolonization, reparations for the mass killing and torture of native people, and giving the land back, however that can be done, I’m no expert but I’ll listen to the voices of the people who were here first.

    25% of my ancestry is Industrial Revolution era urban French & German immigrants. I have evidence of French citizenship and citizenship to the German Nations of Hesse, Swabia, and Baden-Wuttemberg. ("Germany" was not a nationality in 1850 when they arrived. Those were all individual Nations) As well as those people who were citizens of France in the Alsace/Lorraine region who were predominantly of German heritage and spoke both tongues , further blurring the lines between what is properly French vs German.

    What happened to the European immigration now??? By the way nobody says no immigration at all anymore they just say it's too much now.

    • @LittleDesertFlower78
      @LittleDesertFlower78 5 лет назад +5

      They said "too much" 150-100yrs ago too.. But it's a good thing for most of us Americans that immigration wasnt severely restricted, as ppl WANTED it to be, because then tens of millions of our ancestors would not have been able to come here like they did between the mid-1800s & 1924 (when the 1st federal immigration laws that restricted non-Asians were passed --- immigration frm ppl frm many Asian countries had been barred for some time already by then).
      All of the exact same criticisms, fears, issues, & problems that are cited about immigrants coming frm Central America, Mexico, Africa (etc) today.. Were also once cited about immigrants coming here frm southern & eastern European countries like Italy, Poland. Russia, Greece, Hungary, slavic nation-states, Portugal, etc. too..!!
      In fact, it was the massive influx of those immigrants which occurred around the turn of the century (when upwards of 10 million arrived on our shores) which lead to nativists to push for the passage of that Immigration Act of 1924, which placed restrictions & limits on immigrstion frm most countries EXCEPT England (+Ireland & Scotland) and countries in northern Europe (like Scandinavia, Holland, France, & Germany).

    • @LittleDesertFlower78
      @LittleDesertFlower78 5 лет назад +4

      The reason we dont see an influx of European immigrants now, like we once did, is because conditions in European countries haven't been so dire that they've caused mass exodus of their populations coming here seeking opportunity, fleeing famine poverty & persecution, & looking for a better life that isnt available to them there. Europe has changed for the better in a multitude of ways so that ppl there dont face the same problems they once did which caused them to leave. Simple as that.
      Every major wave of immigrants frm different ethnicities or nationalities can be traced back to problems, prejudices, persecution, hardships, injustices, dangers, oppression, or conflict & unrest that ppl were experiencing in their countries of origin that the immigrants coming here were fleeing...
      The place which influxes of immigrants originate frm has changed along with the conditions in those places. The ppl coming here frm Central America today are not much different (in all aspects) than the immigrants frm Poland, Russia, & southern Italy 100yrs ago. They speak different languages, & come from different geographic locations, but their reasons for coming here, & socio-economic status (plus skill/education level, religion, ability to assimilate, & overall immigrant experiences) are largely the same.
