- Hi Guys, I thought I'd do a little something different and make a little diddy about the undeniable Ingenue Essence that is Bianca in the 90's cult classic teenage movie 10 Things I Hate About You. I don't know about you, but this movie is one of my absolute faves! And I love doing these sorts of edits and thought it'd be fun to punctuate my content with pleasing little videos like this. Come to think of it, the very late 90's going into the noughties really did love ingenue motifs-or, what I would associate with ingenue. I'm thinking mostly of the colors, patterns, and hair-clips.

I always thought it was fascinating how she was able to look (imo) amazing in grunge as Alex Mac and then amazing in this Ingenue princess look as Bianca!
Sidenote: Cat Stratford is forever my spirit animal 🤣 One of my favorite movies of all time, thanks for the throwback 💜
I remember back to school shopping for 8th grade. And bringing drawings i made of Bianca's outfits for reference.

I'm a Soft Dramatic and I love the ingenue essence -- however, if I tried out any of these outfits, I'd look like a dowdy old lady 🤣
same, i once wore a vintagey blouse and a person randomly commented "you look odd you shouldn't be wearing that" lol how mean 🤣
Oh, the nostalgia! This is such an adorable video, thanks for sharing this! I remember seeing her and thinking I loved her embroidered cardigan and the last dress. Her character is absolutely one of my faves, so much cute Ingenue essence inspiration!💜
Yeah I just couldn’t get this video concept out of my head......love her character, love this movie and love this era! It’s funny, because I always thought her aesthetic was cute but I much preferred Cat’s looks when I was younger 🙈
I don’t think she was a ingenue herself but her style is. She had more soft classic vibe to me.

Me too! When I was editing this I was reminiscing on the amazing times I had during this era and thought about how badly I want to go back 🥺

This video made me realize how often they dressed her in red and pink, very feminine but also attention grabbing - perfect for Bianca’s character

I love this movie and Bianca's look, tho I lean more towards Kat's vintage 70's vibe, mainly because that's my teen years...
I love this film.
She is, however, LITERALLY a child. 16 maybe? The outfits are cute, but I like to see essence as something more intangible. Ingenue here is about age, not (so much) vibe.
However, I am speaking as a fat 44 year old struggling to incorporate her ingenue essence more and more as time goes on.
Oh, this was just meant to be a fun little edit and an opportunity for me to stretch my creativity a bit🤗 Overall, Bianca’s character fits the old Hollywood trope of Ingenue. And I think that the costume designer did a great job with all the delicate details, color pallets, prints and accessories to convey modern (at that time) Ingenue! I definitely wouldn’t suggest to superimpose her exact style on yourself as a maturing Ingenue woman, but the color pallet, prints, use of scale, materials and accessories would serve as a great starting point for inspiration to an Ingenue woman of any age!

It really is! It was so much fun to rewatch it in preparation of this little edit...took me right back to middle school💛
For an excellent example of ingenue essence in a grown woman, check out Lucy Worsley, an historian who does the most amazing documentaries on RUclips. She is 46 and ROCKS her ingenue essence and style--and she's a PhD!
@@wendyhouses I love Lucy! Her coats are wonderful. I hadn’t made the ingenue link but of course I see it. I think it can be a challenge to separate youthful from childish.
Most style systems seem to advise waiting for a woman to settle into her 20s, which helps.
