Yeah, I loved it too, that’s where I was organizing all my photo, tweak them, apply some LUT, etc…Now, my whole photo library is just a mess. Aperture and iWeb are the two most apps I miss from Apple.
Have you heard about Capture One? Only time I have to upgrade is when I buy new camera. DaVinci Resolve for video editing. Free for 99% use cases or one time payment for the 1% extra. I will never come back to Adobe.
I need to mention I’m not a photographer or a graphic designer, I used Photoshop for basic graphic stuff, layers, mask, etc… I never used script or whatever photoshop experts do. But that’s my point. If you’re like me, that needs to do some graphic design without being a graphic designer, then Pixelmator will be more than fine and you won’t have to deal with Adobe and their subscription. For music I use Logic Pro, for video editing I use DaVinci Resolve Studio, for office app I use Apple ones (numbers, page, keynote). In the past I used Protools for music (now subscription), Premiere for video (now subscription), Photoshop and illustrator for graphics (now subscription) and Microsoft Office (now subscription)… I literally removed all subscription and I’m not missing any of the applications I was using in the past. Actually, I love the apps I’m using now even better and I wouldn’t switch back even if they would remove their subscription.
I currently use Adobe, probably wouldn't go near Pixelmator Pro and Photomator. From what I've seen the Affinity packages way ahead. I know others have moved to using their packages.
Affinity does not have any “generative AI”, they are introducing machine learning assisted masking through (their classical masking tools are already very good though)
I think they’re gonna integrate the photomator app into the photos app and ask for iCloud subscription to enable it. Pixelmator pro will be a one time purchase on the Mac and monthly subscription for the iPads
Unless something has changed, Apple HAS NOT acquired Pixelmator/Photomator. Rather, Apple has signed a deal to do so pending regulatory approval. The deal is not closed the companies are two separate companies as of today, and, depending on regulatory hurdles, the deal may take a longtime to close or, potentially, never close. Once Apple closes the deal AND Photomator finishes their announced development projects (see their website), I will be “all-in” and Adobe will be gone. I am 85% all-in now. Of course, if Apple just lets this thing rot or dumbs it down, I’ll be forced back to Adobe.
I ditched adobe and now use Affinity
Not sure how the company pronounces their own name but always assumed it rhymes with Animator or Alligator

Is it really a photo matter? Nooo, it’s a pixel matter. Sorry, I’m talking rubbish here. No matter. What? 😉😀
I'm ready to consider any software that doesn't require subscription.
i loved aperture!

Affinity all the way...took some time to get adjusted to it
If apple sticks to the existing roadmap that photomater has on their site that will be a good start.
If the software is good as Adobe Light Room (and classic), there is no reason to stay with Adobe.

Aperture was good. Why Apple abandoned it?
I’ve tried but it’s too damn good. And it’s the cost of doing business.
I’ve been using Pixelmator for maybe 15+ years now…. It’s perfect for what I need to do and I’ve never missed Photoshop!

Has Affinity as good painting brushes and Gen-AI support?

I can see this happening! Thanks for the comment.
I dumped Adobe for Affinity years ago and never looked back.
Affinity and Pixelmator which planned to be bought by Apple now is crazy alternative to Adobe
Left ages ago, affinity does all I need and fast.
What has the canva acquisition done to affinity? Anything noticable?
No!
Absolutely not!

Affinity is better
Aperture all day. I miss it greatly. F adobe. Ditching them
I thought that we were going to hear about a new program called pixel-matter. Shit… he’s talking about pixel-“maytur”
Come on Apple. Professional photo editor please!
