This has some challenges but mostly because it requires us to think differently rather than it is actually harder. The real work is mostly in our mind. And I am confident we can all do more than we think, once we step past the fear of failing. 😀
Great stuff, thoroughly enjoyed that. Negative space is the perfect solution for the scene. Intrigued to think about how your grey markers would add to it too.
You did a great job on this (as usual) but I’m going to agree with you… I think this reference would be better done in pencil or marker. To my eyes, the water wasn’t obvious enough in amongst all that heavy line work. If I hadn’t been told it was a waterfall, I might have mistaken the light bits for shiny sections of rock instead of water. Your point of sketching the negative space to create a waterfall is not lost on me though. I’ll have a crack at it. 👍
I think that centre section doesn’t really read as rock, but even when another medium might be more straightforward to use in a subject, it’s also good to push our skills in a different one. I probably had more fun in this than ones more within my pen comfort zone. You should give it a go with whatever you want to use. 😀
Thank you for finally doing water ! It is really difficult for me, but water in pen isn't done much on youtube. I wonder if you could do a few videos on water, including larger waterfalls, then water around rocks, then still water under a bridge, and so on
Thank you for sharing this. Your technique is extremely helpful. Very eye opening. But I am left with the question of how you would apply such techniques to an image in color.
Thanks. Glad it’s helpful. I’m afraid a discussion on colour is way beyond a comment. My colour experience is oils, which don’t have much in common technique wise with pen. 😀
Thank you, Stephen.
I think that you have a lot of confidence in your students/audience. I appreciate that.

Could you make a video about drawing clouds?
It’s on my list Jun. Stay tuned. 😀
Stephen, I love all your videos and you are awesome. Thanks for sharing content on a regular basis.👏
Thank you. Glad it’s helpful for you. 😀
Beautifully done, demonstrated & explained!
Thanks Bruce
How exciting. I’ve been waiting for this. Thanks Stephen I will give this one a go too.
Always great to hear this Abi. Have fun. 😀
Thanks! What a good lesson to unlock a subject that always appeared so difficult for me. A confidence boost!
My pleasure. And thanks for your SuperThanks Des. Much appreciated. 😀
Thank you. I’ve been challenged to do a ink and watercolour waterfall so this is very helpful 🤞
Glad it was helpful!😀

Or even your Grey markers! If I were using markers I would have drawn it a bit larger. But it is a good idea for the future. 😀
Wow, absolutely brilliant tutorial, thank u so much xoxo
Glad it was helpful Kay. 😀

I painted a waterfall scene similar to this in Acrylic...
They are such beautiful subjects - but with their challenges 😐
Stephen.... Beautiful as always🎉
Thanks Jupiter😀
Can you do this by pencil.
It's hard
I tried 4 time but it didn't work 😢
You're good at this 🎉
Of course you can. Whatever is helpful and or fun for how you want to draw is fine. 😀 It can also be helpful to try new things sometimes as well.
