    1. Broken lines for outline. 2. Curved hatches to show shape. 3. Light and shadow via hatching!! Brilliant tips. Thank you

    Thank you! It's so rewarding to have you go over all (my!) problem areas in drawing. I take several things away from every lesson. Not to mention it is really nice just watching you draw. :)

    I can barely draw a Mr. Smiley, because that is normally the extent of my interest in drawing, but this video had me hooked! Brilliant

    I arrived here with a strong curiousity about “Lumpy Snake” and people’s apparent urge to draw him like branches.

      Never get too close to a lumpy snake. Might still be hungry!😀

      @@stephentraversart Keep the distance, withhold the branch comparisons, don’t stare at the lumps (in other words: draw always from memory!) and your chance of survival ranks in the higher double digits.

    Great example. I've recently photographed a number of red river gums with these tortured limbs. Your video has inspired me to have a go drawing them.

    Thanks for another great video!
    Question, I notice you don't turn the paper when you draw, you just move your hand/wrist. When you draw and are not filming, do you turn the paper to make it more convenient? In other words, are you keeping the paper straight just to make a video that is easier to watch?

    • @stephentraversart
      @stephentraversart  11 месяцев назад +3

      Yes. It’s because of the videoing. I used to turn it. 😩

    Eucalypts are particularly tricky to draw because of their tendency to grow very twisty branches. I used to have a sketchbook full of awful drawings of gum trees, that I made on a family road trip when I was a teenager :-D

    I love drawing trees. Many people say I do an excellent sketch of it. For the most part I follow your way of drawing them. My biggest issue is drawing the branches that come directly at me. I never seem to get them correct, or at least to my satisfaction. Suggestions on overcoming this issue? -OkieSketcher1949
