Ooof - that’s a shame… lesson learned for the community though!
Be mindful wearing gloves though - 99% of paper archivists don’t wear them as their hands are more delicate without. They opt for clean hands instead. My Masters supervisor was an archivist of medieval documents and told us all about how her department dare not wear them. It sounded so counterintuitive that I found it fascinating.

Lesson learned indeed and hopefully a reminder to the community to check what they’re getting. Can never be too careful.
Thanks so much for the tip about wearing gloves. It’s indeed fascinating that something so counterintuitive is the norm instead of the exception.

some 30 yrs ago a group of us at work bought a large collection of comics. the guys went crazy over the new items but I took all the silver, bronze, copper age that they didn't want . so in the long run I came out a lot better .

I looked this up. Apparently, someone wanted the picture of Thor who was standing next to Giant Man in the damaged panel. Today, most would react with horror at such an act of vandalism. But when the cutout occurred, it was just another comic book - a form of literature considered very low-brow at the time.

For sure. Back then cutting out coupons, panels, or stamps was done without a second thought. Pretty sure we did that, I know I wrote on some of my early books and colored some pages.

Bought some silver age superman one was missing the first page and the other had a mold stain that went through every page fortunately I didn't pay over 50 cents each
I also bought that day some early bronze age stan lee daredevil horror and local comics which were in pretty good shape
Edit just noticed you guys are a very small channel so consider me a new subscriber :)

Thanks for the sub! We definitely appreciate it. Glad to hear you didn’t overpay for books that weren’t in great shape. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case here. Bax paid close to FMV for a book that ended up being incomplete. 😕

Ugh, sorry this happened fellas. But it’s not uncommon. I recently bought some books on an Instagram live sale. Books were described as low grade, 1.8-2.5 but complete. When I received them the first book I checked was missing pages. They were very sorry and accepted the return no problem. First time for everything. And if that cut out was 2” and it would grade higher than a 3.5, I believe, you would get a qualified green label if graded. Great cautionary tale fellas!

I recently bought a Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #158 from Dell for the Carl Barks art and was checking out to find out it had a couple pages missing. Had the Carl Barks story complete but missing the middle of the books. Also subing, always willing to support other small comic channels.

Appreciate the support! Thanks for the comment and sub. Sorry to hear about the missing pages on your book, always a bummer to find a book is incomplete after a purchase.

@@JaBsExpensivePaper I am sorry to hear that. Honestly I need a copy of that book myself. I have copy of Avengers 16 but it has no cover at all. I got it for 50 cents at a thrift store just for laughs but waiting to find a better copy for myself.
