So impressed, you guys breed not only just plain beautiful horses but they have such good minds. Watching that baby get loaded into the trailer so calm and not having a tantrum was awesome. The way you guys treat each other with so much respect and love is inspiring.
Thanks for the videos 👏
Thank you for your kind words Steve! Glad to have you along 😊
Everyone who is hardcore "only freeze branding is humane!" should see this, how QUICKLY AND PAINLESSLY it can be done. No need to hold the iron against the skin for 20 FULL seconds (or more), no messed up brands, no need to apply the iron twice, AND these were mostly roan coats to boot, which are notorious for being tricky canvases for freeze brands. This hot-iron work was absolutely amazing! Hats off to your skills and huge congrats on your gorgeous crop of foals!
For freeze branding you have to hold the brand on longer to kill the hair folicles and the recovery/ healing time is actually longer. These babies are not branded as heavy as cattle, just enough to get the ID on them that is required by the state of AZ if horses are running in rangeland.
What knowledgeable viewers! Thank you for your comments 😁
Well said 👍
Wow! You got the prettiest bunch.. I like the buckskin.. baby monster.. she's gonna be big😍 Thank you allowing us along.. keep up the good work💪🏾Be Blessed 💓
What a pen of roans. Good looking rascals too❣️ Your babies are so gentle. They accept being handled so well. Sure makes for a great horse down the road❣️❣️
This guy is a surgeon with the branding iron. I have seen some smeared brands in my day and brands that seemed to go to the bone. Good work, sir.

They are very pretty babies, just so relaxing watching you guys . Ranch life is awesome !! I remember that very well. Great video stay safe and healthy. Thanks 😊
Holy roany! So many stunning foals… I’m wiping the drool off my chin as my daughter is trying to coerce me with the offer of “loads of chores” to please please buy her one of your bay roan fillys. She’s been eyeballing these babies and watches the videos repeatedly.
Bruh a real parent wouldn't ask people to buy stuff for them.
@@chadwildclayfancwc5753 My daughter is not a parent but she is real😳
@@chadwildclayfancwc5753 Bub, you need to learn to read. The Lady is not asking anyone to buy her daughter anything.
@@johnmccaughan4195 lmao. She said please please buy her one of the blue roan filly's that right their says I'm right so I suggest you to learn how to read
@@chadwildclayfancwc5753 Read it a few more times, and maybe you will figure it out. Her daughter is pleading with her mother to buy her a horse. The lady is not in any way asking someone else to buy a horse for her. It is all about reading comprehension, which you seem to have missed out on.
I just love the way you handle the foals. They are off to a great start. Great video
Your videos are So exciting..
The music, the editing, the location and of course the beautiful horses and fouls.
Thankyou
Thank you very much!
You guys produce some really amazing horses .
Thank you
Your welcome
What great looking horse flesh! I look forward to your videos.
Lincoln sure loves his job ! He's livin the life !!
It's what the breed was created for
As usual, beautiful babies with excellent minds taking new experiences in stride. If I were to get back into horses, I would be putting some reserve money down.
Great branding and great looking foals, love the bloodlines you have. Your hot iron brands are so neat and clean, I had a registered sorrel Paint gelding out of Kansas that had a really deep scared hot iron brand on his left upper hip and not very clean at all. I bought him as an 8 year old out of East Texas, super great horse, I lost him to a brain tumor at 22. I’m from Georgia and just started following you guy’s, love the videos and keep em coming!
Thanks for joining us 😊
Beautiful babies. I'm amazed they aren't too bothered by the branding. Looks painful.
Me too,was good to see them calm before, during and after the branding!
Another teco shute has survived I see. Love your horses 🐎. Got to get a cap, Thanks for the video 📹
Love these videos. Like how yall handle them. Everything is just done quiet and gentle. That foal by monster was a pretty thing, but all your babies are pretty! LOL it would be hard to pick one!
The foals sure were relaxed in the chute. Didn't mind the branding on the hindquarter, but when it came to the butt on the far side some kind of moved. I really like the foal that Hanson took home. Love your videos. Ranching life is awesome!!
Great video. This is video proves that those who make it look easy know what they’re doing. Take care.
Great looking horses! I'm amazed by their temperament! Handled relatively little and they still went in the chute and trailer without any fuss! That is worth it's weight in gold!
What's the deal with the hats? You buy a hat and the horse comes with it? (Haha)
Keep the videos comin!
Bought a new Ford cap decades ago, they threw in a brand new pickup!!! They won't even give you a cap anymore! hehehe
Like their Build nice color especially the Buckskin always liked Buckskins and Bays Have a good day
I was kinda hesistant to watch a branding video, but most babies didn't even flinch. Love to see the calm, relaxed vibe with both humans and the pretty ponies 🙌
We’re glad you watched, thank you
I love seeing your roans, beautiful horses!
Great filming and editing. It all went so smooth. Horses skin is so much thicker than people realize. Very calming for me. Beautiful horses. Wonderful sunshine. Winter/snow/clouds are here now. Seeing your videos is a really nice break from all that. Thank you for sharing.
Horse skin is actually thinner than human skin. Their epidermis that is. So they have less epidermis between their nerve endings than we do. So they are probably more sensitive to pain.
Real nice foal crop! And they act so sensible when you halter and load them!
👍 Another good one, video and colt!
Lovely, well bred babies!
Those Monster babies have pretty heads and beautiful color and temperament 💙
Beautiful horses!
Once Again a great Video 🥰🥰
Loving those colors
They are awesome looking.
I've never seen that the branding is so quick and relatively stress-free. And I would also like to say - you have a very calm way of dealing with the foals. It's realy amazing how much trust they have in you. I would buy one of them immediately - unfortunately it is a long way from Austria to America 😉
Lindos, parabéns pelo trabalho!!!
Manda um desses aq para o Brasil rs.
Beautiful Roans I been wanted to buy a horse but don't have a place to keep it, I wish my dream come true and get to own one of this beautiful animals, I did lots of riding in my younger days and I love them. Keep up the good work I like the Red Roan foal
I love the color of the foal at 2:10!
Wow BEAUTIFUL FOALS!!❤❤❤
Your babies look amazing
The Buckskin foal.. Beautiful.
This is the only ranching program that has developed ways of reducing stress in their every operation.
Wow, thank you! We sure strive for stress free stockmanship! #cowboyculture
Monster throws beautiful foals.
Love foal whinnies!!♥️♥️♥️
Reminds me of round-up on my grandparents ranch when I was a kid... "The Spur Cross Ranch"
Tempting me to get a Roan lol I love the blue and bay roans 😍
I have one of each available
You guys sure have some well minded babies
Love the ranch and animal. I’m shocked how they do not even some to move when you are branding them that shocked me lol
What gorgeous babies! Ive never seen branding done before...most didnt even flinch! Is it sore for a while? Would love to more of your horses!!! Great bodies and sound minds!
Look at that !! Just a alittle pinch if that !!!! I kinda like seeing the branding !!! ❤️🐴❤️
Yeah,Really⁉️⁉️ YOU’RE SICK‼️ I’ve got an idea:WHY DON’T YOU GET BRANDED & See if YOU Still “LIKE IT”⁉️⁉️

Dibbs is a beast!
I agree. She’s real cool!
Those foals were beautiful, but the temperaments were really impressive.

and again a great video it is really nice there where you since I would like to help with your work if I can😊😊😊💪🏻💯
Morning from S. Carolina. I love watching Lincoln herding the cows a bit. He has that natural instinct bred into the breed. I have a 6 month old female right now who is a Service Dog in training. That red Roman foal is a beauty. I really like the Roman coloration in the foals you have in this crop. Is the Sire a roan or does he just carry the gene? You had already told me that Monster was not the Sire of this crop. Looking forward to seeing his foals next year. That Buckskin Roman foal is beautiful. Will be quite the stunner grown up.
There are several sites represented here.
Which stud is producing all those roans. They are beautiful. How old are the ones you are shipping?
Salty, RKR, and Texas mostly.... Czar has thrown a roan and Lynx does too but we didn’t breed him this year. They are all at least 5 months.
I like that buckskin
Я тоже люблю лошадей. Салам с Кыргызстана😘

Great video and a nice looking crop of foals! What size branding iron do you use on your foals?
2”
He’s riding a chestnut coloured horse.
What yall do with the yearlings? Those the ones you kept back for the band and personal string?
Ride at two and sell
Does The P. D. R. have any of Monster’s foals that you are going to use as brood mares or heard stallions? I spent many hours when I was a young boy reading about Poco Bueno, Wimpy, King and the other Foundation Quarterhorses. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer questions.
I’m sure Jerry already has that all planned out... I can’t keep track. Maybe he’ll see this comment and answer.
Beautiful colts and fillies! do you cut the colts befor they leave or do you leave them?
New owners take care of that.
Blue roan is my absolute favorite color
Like most people
@@PaintedDesertRanch Are you saying most people favor blue roans? I never heard that before, but it would not surprise me 💁♀️
Yes, they are the most asked for. Blues and buckskins
@@PaintedDesertRanch Wonderful surprise to watch my beloved blue born jet black when I was 10, from a white freckled mare and a blood bay stallion…IDK how that works genetically but the color changes as she grew was icing on the cake for a little girl 🥰🥰🥰 Sorry, I’m sure you are too busy to hear everyone’s personal experience; it’s just that I’ve never loved man or beast that much since 💁♀️
where they freeze branded 😅i’m new to the whole branding thing. i’m in love with all the roan foals!
No, this is hot iron branding. Glad you joined us, thanks for watching!
I like the busking it’s a colt or filly ?
Like the buckskin. Why do you brand some one place and others in different place? Just curious.:)
Thigh is a state requirement , rump is for their own record. I think.
Correct. Also... they ALL get BOTH the JHeart and the numbers
Do they ever move and mess up the brand and if so how do you correct it?
Yes, very few and far between.
Sure like them roan ponies
4:30 pretty buckskin that’s for sure.
Great group of babies the little guy loaded up in the trailer like he had done it all his life instead of his second time. How do I contact Jerry or Hensen to find
out what the asking price is for the Buckskin ? Out of Monster and what mare.? I think she was third in the chute, Hensen said something about her when she was in the chute but I didn't catch what he said. Thanks for sharing today's adventure with us.
not by Monster. Henson said... “mama’s a roan, daddy’s a bay...”
@@PaintedDesertRanch I would suggest checking that foal's DNA to verify parentage. One of the parents has to carry the cream gene to be able to produce a buckskin. Usually roans don't carry that. Maybe your bay stallion is really a smoky black which carries the cream gene, but is hard to detect in a dark bay horse without color typing it. Either way, you may want to investigate that one a little more, and also test the sire and dam for their true color also. Is it possible Trigger got to this mare? A palomino can throw a buckskin because they both have the cream gene. Just FYI, the cream gene expressed on a bay coat produces a buckskin, and the cream gene expressed on a sorrel/chestnut is what produces a palomino color.
@@suzanneyoung8011 A phenotypical "roan" mare can carry cream and still appear as a roan. Bred to a bay she can produce a buckskin.
@@DoubleDogDare54 I've studied horse color genetics. I haven't seen anything about this listed specifically on UC Davis's website, which is the university that has done extensive research into color genetics in horses and has developed many tests to identity the various color types and combinations of color types in horses. I'm not saying this doesn't happen or that you're incorrect, but that it would be extremely rare to breed a buckskin foal from a roan mare and a bay stallion.
Roan is usually a dominant gene. A true buckskin will result from one of the parents carrying a cream gene. I haven't yet read anything about a roan horse also carrying a cream gene. Maybe it's there and I missed it. A bay horse, particularly a brown or dark bay horse may carry a cream gene which makes it technically a smoky black, but the effect of that gene on a bay horse is very hard to detect if at all in its own coloration.
It's possible that the foal that appears now to be a light buckskin will actually roan out, in which case it would need to be registered as a roan. I'm just saying that this occurrence is so rare, that if I was either the seller or the buyer of this foal, I would want to have its parentage DNA verified, and I would submit pictures and a sample to have its color type tested by UC Davis or by some other reputable firm that does it. If I were the buyer I would especially want to know that if I intended to use the horse in a breeding program.
@@suzanneyoung8011 Google up pictures of buckskin roans. If you look at them, they look like buckskins. Most people would not be picky about calling them buckskins. And there are lots of photos, so they aren't hen's teeth.
If the mare was a roan/cream cross and the sire was bay, I ran the possibilities through one of those online calculators and can up with a 17.whatever percent chance the foal would be buckskin.
So, maybe the foal is buckskin, maybe it is a buckskin that will roan out to some degree. But it looks buckskin and that ties in with what the J/hearts called it.
Is it Monster that is throwing the Roman foals? I once had a strawberry roam, so flashy
No. We have 10 stallions
If you don’t mind will you please post the AQHA registration name of Henson’s horse Dibs?
Dibs on a Frenchgirl. She’s for sale
How much does the brand stretch when they are full grown?
It does stretch, but not much. If you watch a few of our videos you can see the older JHeart horses with their brands
Some foals got numbers branded on their rear quarter. What does that mean? Is it just for fillies?
All get rear brands. It helps to identify the baby to the mama- keeps everything straight for registration
How do you know when the iron is right to brand?
When it’s red hot.
Какой красивый жеребец
Lincoln does all the herding? No Border Collies? I just found your channel and am really enjoying it💗
No Border Collies. We never intended for Lincoln to be a cow dog, he just trained himself to be one 😂 thanks for watching!
Yes I would like to know how to purchase one of the colt.
Click the link in the description and message us on FB
There are those babies again! Are those already sold?
Yes
How much does the foals go for average price? They are really beautiful.
2750-5000
@@PaintedDesertRanch All papered as well? That's a good price.
Yes, all AQHA
Hello! Do you send your merch to UK? I would love a hat but curious about the cost 🤩
Not yet, trying to do a little research on that. Keep an eye out
Have you done pain relievers before the branding ?
No
@@PaintedDesertRanch Thank you! It's amazing that they are keep calm
I understand the branding on the hip! But what is the purpose of the number branding on the rump? Sire information?
Yes, helps identify the baby to mama at time of registration. We have lots of similar colors- if they have no markings it’s even harder to identify them if they don’t have the numbers.
@@PaintedDesertRanch Thank you! And please keep up the great work with the videos!
Is it the valitune blood that give you guys so many roans ?
Not necessarily, no.
Ok . Just wondering...
this may sound like a dumb question, what are the number brands for? i never been around a branding pen before so i dont know
They identify the mamas to the babies and tell us how old they are in the future.
@@PaintedDesertRanch thank you, thats a quick way for sure
I’m surprised that they act as wild as they do. Especially since you guys keep them stalled up so much.
You are mistaken. They are all turned out everyday of their lives. Some of the pastures are several sections a piece... so they know nothing about stalls.
@@PaintedDesertRanch I kid.
🤣 well shoot... nowadays you never know.
Yep pretty wild ponies.😆
what is reason for branding in different spots?
They all get a JHeart and a number. The numbers helps us to identify them when it comes time for registration
1st video I've watched. What's the difference on the brand on the butt versus the hip?
Numbers on the hind are to identify the babies to mamas- helps us to get everything registered correctly.
@@PaintedDesertRanch Oh ok, that makes sense. TY
Just curious why you brand two placed 🤔
Read the comments 😁
What is the significance of the number branded on the left side rear ?? I understand the brand, but I'm curious about the #.
It identifies the baby to mama also it’s age.
@@PaintedDesertRanch thank you for this.
What are the #s beside the tail used for
Identifies the babies to mamas
So who is the stallion that is throwing all the roan foals?
Texas, Salty, & RKR would be the main ones. But we do have a couple other studs that have thrown one or two
I've just started watching your videos , is this your farm or ranch, or does a rich family own it and the four of you manage it?
Haha. Funny assumption. My husbands family owns it- they are by no means rich and work hard every single day just to keep it going. Thanks for joining us
How would we go by about buying a yearling for you?
Link in description or read some other comments
I'd like information to purchase.. Good looking horses
Check description
Why do you brand the back side by the tail?
The numbers identify the baby to the mama. Also tell us what year it was born.
@@PaintedDesertRanch Thank you so much. That makes alot of sense..❤️
I get what the flank brand is. What's the butt brand for? Bloodline?
Identifies the babies to mamas for correct registration
Do you ever freeze brand?
No
Takes a significantly longer time, and is definitely more costly... this is the most efficient way for us to brand 60 foals a year.
What's the other brand on the back side?
The number brands represent the year the foal was born and which mare they’re out of. With so many foals it’s the way large ranch’s keep track of their horses.
@@JosieB2017 that makes a lot of sense. I never thought about that before.
@@JosieB2017 most ranches I know will put a tag around the mare and/or foal's neck for identification. Personally, I wouldn't want one with the numbers branded on its backside. The main brand is OK but this takes away from the horse's looks in my opinion. They do it this way because it's easier on them, but not good for the horse long term in my opinion.
The Bucky available?
No
