    Sure hate to see the damage that gopher done. Good job done on screening those beds to keep his butt out. 25 years left? Stay safe my friend and have a wonderful week!

    Wow! We have moles and voles. They do lots of digging leaving lots of holes. They don't seem to hurt the plants but really mess things up. Also dig up the yard. I will definitely try the wire. Great idea! Also like the wood support between the beds holding the sides in place with the one board. I really need to do that too. Never thought of that before. You have such good quality construction and ideas. Great video as always!

      thank u😊we were trying to determine if we had moles or gophers, and then it started pulling whole plants all the way down into the holes and eating them😹 that’s when we knew😬

      @@SouthernCaliforniaGardening I saw a site yesterday where the guy said he has gofer's that dig up plants in his garden. He builds or buys somewhere little open top cages. Look like chicken wire. Digs a little hole puts them in the ground and fills with dirt. They stick out of the ground a little. Then puts a plant in them. He says they work well.

    I did exactly what you did! I am glad. why do you put gravel at the bottom of raised bed 4:20? will it affect roots going down?

    • @SouthernCaliforniaGardening

      hi! awesome😁we have found putting gravel (DG) at the bottom of the beds helps with drainage, save money and if the plant roots do go that deep we have found they love it, especially pepper plants☺️

    My raised beds have looked like yours for a few weeks...something digging up grubs. We think it's a skunk. Wake up to new holes every morning. Our pest isnt purposefully eating our plants but digs up roots. Such a bummer about your veggies!

    • @SouthernCaliforniaGardening
      @SouthernCaliforniaGardening  4 года назад

      moles like grubs which is great because they’re getting rid of the grubs but unfortunately they disturb the root growth😐

    How would you apply the wire mesh in a raised metal bed?

    • @SouthernCaliforniaGardening
      @SouthernCaliforniaGardening  6 месяцев назад +1

      hi! you can cut it about 6” bigger than the metal raised bed diameter. then place it inside and form to the bottom having the extra wire up against the inside bed walls then place some heavy rocks on the wire mesh up against the walls to weigh it down and and keep in place.

    • @Elijah12459
      @Elijah12459 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I will definitely give that try. I wasn't sure if there was a way to attach it to the metal bed or if it should go up the outside or inside.

    • @SouthernCaliforniaGardening
      @SouthernCaliforniaGardening  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Elijah12459 hi, you probably could secure it to the inside of the bed with some type of small u bracket, but the screws may stick out on the outside of the bed making a sharp area. We have wooden raised beds, so we just staple gunned the wire mesh to the wood🙂

    Oh no 😞 so sorry! I stopped my gardening for a few years ago due to gophers. There was work being done on parks and roads and pushed them over our way. Never had a problem for over 20 years b4 then. It's just me now, but Maybe I will try it again.
