    The rule of two wasn’t always how the Sith operated, in SWTOR for example they have an empire at one point but because of their nature there was always infighting in one way or another. The rule of two was created as a way to circumvent the infighting by having only two Sith at any one time, a master and a apprentice.

    I keep wondering if the light or dark side would even exist without people. Are they forces in their own right, or created by the people?
    The Dark Side being people falling into darkness and those all to human evils.
    The Light Side a attempt at avoiding that fate happening over and over.

    • @pidinik
      @pidinik Месяц назад +1

      At this point I'm completely lost on what's canon and what's legends but I guess this time it's safe to say in both cases that there wouldn't be any light or dark side without people actively using it, just the Force doing its thing. It could maybe argued that what the Jedi do is that they just use the force as it is, going with the flow (in most cases), because in contrast (this is established afaik), the Sith are actively corrupting the way the Force works, each one of them trying to bend it to their will, instead of the other way around, which the Jedi do. Which *always* eventually backfires in various ways as the Force 'fights back', trying to 'unbend' itself. The most obvious backfire is the immense toll on the user, the physical corruption and deformation of their bodies as they delve deeper and deeper into the darkness. Starting with change of eye colour, ending with looking like a stack of pancakes. One of the reasons many Sith searched for ways to gain immortality, ideally in another, healthy body. Which obviously means further escalation of the 'bending' process as all life ceases to be one day. Another interesting one is Plagueis and Sidius trying to forcefully manipulate the force in such a way to artificially create life, which is an exclusive Force IP. It was such an abomination that the Force responded with actually creating life for them. But it was Anakin and from him, Luke (there can be debate on which one of them was the actual chosen one, I'm pretty split on this one myself) to destroy the Sith completely and restore what they call balance - the natural flow of the Force as it should be with none of the negative interference.

    Wizards and Warriors I would be very careful discussing “Grey Jedi” as they are entirely made up fan fiction, which blatantly contradicts Lucas’s own depiction of the Force itself (dividing the Force into “light” and “dark” is somewhat misleading but doesn’t necessarily contradict Lucas in his own words).
    First off, Lucas’s own depiction of the Force is that there is a natural state of the Force (what people after exposure to the EU call “light side” and what the Jedi adhere to) and the corruption of that natural state (called the dark side in both the movies and EU). Notice that in any movies made by Lucas there is zero mention of the “light side” of the Force. There is only “the Force” and the “dark side”.
    Even in the EU, which is where Grey Jedi fanfiction comes from, there are only two direct references to “Grey Jedi”, with one indirect reference that is misinterpreted. The first is a comic where a Jedi calls Qui Gon a “grey Jedi” in reference to his desire to follow the will of the Force over the Jedi’s rigid legal obligations to the Republic. This is not “grey” in the sense of morality (in Force terms, light vs. dark), but “grey” in an ethical sense (think lawful vs. chaotic from DnD personality alignment chart). Qui Gon 100% draws solely from the natural state of the Force (what some people call “the light side”), and is nothing like what the fanfiction depicts of a so called grey Jedi.
    The second direct depiction is in KOTOR 2, with a set of “Grey Jedi” Robes and a brief description. No Grey Jedi are ever actually depicted in the game through any character.
    The one indirect reference is Jolee Bindo, who would be best described as a “chaotic good” character rather than “grey/neutral”. He gets fed up with Jedi politics and bureaucracy and as a youth is impatient with the teachings of the Jedi, so he pulls a Luke Skywalker and becomes a bitter and cynical hermit. Again, he does not use the dark side of the force at all, and is fully committed to the natural state of the force (aka light), so he is in no way like the “Grey Jedi” depicted here.

As well the only one described as grey was Jolee Bindo who Juhani even says he still follows the light and doesn’t use the dark side. Grey Jedi are pure fanon that may be added in Disney but hasn’t happened yet at this time but in the original EU have never existed as people who use the light and dark side as the dark side would corrupt them from use

    @myriadmediamusings 2 месяца назад +17

    This is massively muddled given how much the Jedi, Sith, the Force, both its sides and the in-between have been interpreted over the decades across all mediums and even Lucas himself. We start out with that whole thing of everyone being able to attune themselves with the Force with proper discipline, to M-Counts and grand lineages and Jedi/Sith having a monopoly on the Force with the occasional witch and other Force sects.

    • @pidinik
      @pidinik Месяц назад +1

      If you've watched the Ahsoka series, you've seen there that the initial point, that *anyone* can attune themselves to it still stands today. The higher amounts of midichlorians are more like an equivalent to a natural talent, which not all possess but *everyone* has at least some, all life has, that's the important part. Not everyone will end up at Yoda or Sidious level of mastering the Force, obviously but with enough training everybody can one day use the force *to a degree*. The selection we see with both the Jedi and the Sith is simply about not wasting time and resources, picking the ones that are already born as 'naturals' for training. It's all just about time, funding and logistics, not much more. It took Sabine more than a decade of hard training (with some pauses in between) to achieve even the basics but she did it eventually, when she was fully ready. The Jedi order just simply wouldn't have the capacity to pick up random kids to teach them basic telekinesis skills in 10 or 15 years, concidering that at the age of like 15, many Padawans were pretty damn skilled in use of the Force. Way beyond the level of Sabine after training for the same amount of time.
      You mention witches and other Force sects - that's an important part, actually. It's very obvious that compared to the Jedi and Sith that both go through ruthless selection and only the most naturally gifted are chosen, the powers of those other individuals are almost always *much* more limited. The Dathomiri witches only help themselves with what probably used to be Sith alchemy in the old canon. Without it, they wouldn't be that powerful at all. And we also see that by far not all of them can even perform those rituals. And the other Force sects - they're almost always way weaker in the Force than even young Jedi padawands. From the top of my head, their main force abilities are that they tend to have faster reflexes, precognition, some visions and just feeling what the Force want's from them maybe but that's generally it. Imho the way the Force works in SW is still pretty consistent when you look deeper into it and take the whole context.

  • @captain4ssassin490
    @captain4ssassin490 2 месяца назад +11

    you had me until the Grey Jedi. THEY DON'T EXIST! IT'S FANFICTION OR A GAME MECHANIC! the dark side is inherintly corrupting, there's no taming it and using its powers while staying good. balance in the force isn't about mastering light and dark, it's about uderstanding the nature of the force as a whole and resisting the temptation and influence of the dark side. the prequel jedi were out of balance because they were low-key influenced by the dark side, making them increasingly blind and dogmatic. Maul's comment about the force being out of balance was caused by the bloody galaxy-wide war going on, full of death, destruction and corruption. Using sith powers as a jedi only works in games but it's not how the force actually works. Cal using the dark side in Jedi: Survivor isn't him being a grey jedi, it's him struggling with his anger and trauma that is leading him on a dark path.

So is the Force trying to kill itself? Or did it make Traya believe she could destroy it as a way to redeem Surik? Well, yes and no. There actually is a Light and Dark Side of the Force, as we see with the Mortis Gods/the Ones. The reason there was three of them was because there was the Light Side through the Daughter, the Dark Side through the Son, and then the Father being the Balance between them. However, that interpretation came about later. George Lucas originally intended to make it the way you described, that there was no Light Side because the Light Side WAS the Force. The Dark Side, rather than an inherent part of the Force, was this outside corruption of it, hence why they never mention the Light Side originally in the movies. But that has since changed

    I mean, if we know how the Jedi work, we also know that Rey will also fall into dogmatism and cynicism when she grows older. Think that in their detachment, other Jedi like Luke or even Obi Wan, who were more heterodox and positive in their youth, also fell into that trap. While overall positive, the Ligh Side of the force seems to end up forcing its followers into compliance with the old doctrine.
    Think that Luke was in his time the New Hope of the Jedi order. Abandoning their old dogmas, for a different and more open to being active way of doing things. Protecting those who one loves, and defending that attachment as a way of connecting oneself more with the force and other living things. Yet instead of learning anything, he seemed to have become as jaded and close minded as the Jedi masters of old. Making the exact same mistakes as them, and then exiling and detaching himself, and hoping the force itself would deliver the answer to the woes of the galaxy with the new generation.
    Whenever the Jedi are ascendant on the galaxy, they and it tend to fall and repeat the same patterns as before. As soon as the Sith were put down for what it seemed the last time, and the Jedi order came back, the New Republic immediately felt into the same trap of corruption as the old one was in its final stages. It didn't need 1000 years to decay to that point this time. And similarly with the Jedi order itself, it was unable to provide emotional comfort to its students when needed, with one of them falling into the Dark Side even though they were surrounded of people that should had understood them better.
    The only real moment when this patterns in the galaxy break, is when the Sith are ascendant. Although their brand of changes isn't what I would exactly call... positive. Anything but that.
    So to me, it seems as both side of the Force are incredibly out of balance. Stagnation and constant repetition, or destruction and tyranny.

    Funny how they say the force is not a 1 to 1 of chi but; later just explains what chi is like in the belief of Taoism. Not sure why Buddhism is use as an example of dark and light of the force but the Dao comes in both dark and light…Star Wars is just a futuristic sci-fi wuxia show.
    The Jedi are just the orthodox factions while the Sith just the unorthodox & demonic factions in wuxia.

    Y'all nerds getting bent out of shape over "canon" should read about the Greek, Roman, Scandinavian, etc. gods. Not being consistent is pretty much the conernerstone of all mythology. The details contradict because no one actually knows. They're using characters to tell stories, even if the force was real, how the hell would you understand, categorize, and access its depths? You wouldn't! All you'd have access to is each different story tellers perspective. No Gray jedi? How would you know? You sound like fundamentalists insisting that your dualistic interpretation of the force is true and anything outisde that is heresy. There's a giant universe of possibilities to create an entire genre unto itself, and yet you insist on keeping it small minded.

    A prime example of the danger of the British accent. Giving credence to the sequels which split the fandom, introducing Grey Jedi as if that's a real thing and not just fan fiction, and defining the Sith Rule of Two as the way that operate when the Sith species was conquered by exiled Dark Jedi. Sith bend the Force to their own will for their own selfish desires, where Jedi surrender to the will of the Force and use it to guard life. Way too much emphasis on the damn sequels.
