The Royalettes Only When You're Lonely

  • The Royalettes were the classiest of all the girl groups of the 60's. They recorded this with Teddy Randazzo in 1965, but released it as a single in 1966. It appeared on the 'Gonna Take A Miracle' album, but followed the version by Holly Maxwell as a 45. The Royalettes, though perhaps more Pop-Soul, recorded songs that were amazingly as elegant as they were as a group. And Sheila Ross rocks in my book. Hope you enjoy one of my favorite Royalettes tracks.

Dang, the Royalettes should've been bigger. I remember them when I was a kid and their two hits MIracle, and I Want to Meet Him. Wondeful sound and harmonies are out of this world plus Ms. Ross's leads are great and soothing.

They were phenomenal. This track is second-to-none and it is one of my favorites. As a professional musician for over 45 yearsI can honestly say that the royalettes was one of the most outstanding groups of the 1960s and is a female group they were second only to The Supremes. There may be others who would disputemyclaim but I maintain that as a professional musician and record collector I remain steadfast and my belief that the royalettes was second only to The Supremes.

Classy, melodic, elegant, enchanting that's all I can say when listening to this. I really love this song it is so lovely and pure. I miss that in music. Where is that today? Where did it go? Where's the loveliness? I believe it has been substituted for shallow flesh, and self glorification. Like I heard someone say many years ago "ain't nothing like the real thing baby". The Royalettes and many other of their generation like Martha Reeves and Vandellas, Marvellettes etc have set high standards and I don't think have seen anyone come close to that class. I know nobody was ever perfect, but the shallowness today and the real soul of yesterday are like night and day. I don't know you pookie, but thankt you for putting this up! I hope current artists will understand its not about the body its about the soul.

    Sheila Ross (Royalette's crystal-clear lead) + Teddy Randazzo (arranger/producer) = Perfection.
Same style he used so successfully for Little Anthony & the Imperials.
Just off the Royalette's It's Gonna Take a Miracle CD alone were: It's Gonna Take a Miracle, You Bring Me Down, Never Again, I Want to Meet Him and other gems.
Never be another 60s. So glad I was a part of it.

Luv the song and the vid. I'm from Baltimore so I really love the Royalettes, they were out when I was a teen and they really did us proud. The scenes make me homesick as I'm now a 20-yr Miamian. Great songs by singers with real talent is so refreshing to hear after the disco/psychedelic/rap/crap years. I like all kinds of sounds but the music from the 60's/70's is truly unique! Thanks for the posting and keep 'em coming. Peace :)

This is the music that could have brought us all together, and then came rap, Jay z, and the rest of the (c)rap that promotes the ugly side of humanity. Thankfully, we here, still have dignity, compassion, and an appreciation for beautiful and heartfelt musicianship.
