Singer 2018 is the second season of Chinese television series Singer, a rebranded version of I Am a Singer that will air on Hunan Television. It is produced by Hong Tao, and its music director is Hong Kong senior musician Kubert Leung.

She's not trying to win obviously, she just want to sing up there to showcase her talent and express herself through music. Her stubborness in singing anak despite of many objections telling it is not a competition piece, makes her an admirable artist who don't give a damn about the ranking and the title of the singer. Well, I’m a Chinese, I watched the show. However, this song is the best performance over the whole competition as my opinion, and the only one made me cried. I don’t understand the language, but I was totally shocked and touched with tears. I believe the good performance and songs can pass by generations and generations, above the languages and culture. She deserved the first place at least for this round, if I could vote.
The song lectures about filial piety. It is about a child who was doted upon since the day he was born by his parents but when he grows older he went astray and became rebellious to his parents because he wants them to give everything that he wants including his vices. However, he regretted later on and ask forgiveness to his parents especially his mother. This song is considered iconic in our country and the most famous. It is translated in different languages.

The type of music that inspires a person says a lot about them inside.
I feel sorry for the majority of the Chinese audience.
This song is on a level beyond them. The song choice was always going to be a risk for this audience, but KZ takes risks for her art. Many advised KZ against the song because they knew the majority of the audience would struggle with fundamental message of the song. This is not the Philippines.
The song is work of a genius and the interpretation by KZ honoured Freddie Aguilar.
KZ tried her best to open their souls and hearts. Maybe, with some in the audience she succeeded. That is a big achievement if KZ touched some of the audience with her performance.

Anak means My Child (spoken in 2nd person). This is NOT a literal translation but my own way of translating it so you have a better appreciation of the song. I added the "my" before the word child as this is more befitting for the song popularized by Freddie Aguilar (Folksong legend in the 🇵🇭).

On the last part when KZ repeated the word MALI (meaning wrongdoing or error), she emphasized the gravity of realizing ones mistakes thus the repitition. This can be interpreted as someone saying IM SORRY over and over again just to ask for forgiveness. This is very dramatic in that sense that the singer sang it this way.

Didn't understand a word but that song gave me a shiver! I can really feel the emotions. Too bad she didn't get in but she's already a winner. The story started when the child was born and he became the most improtsnt treasure of his parents. He was doted and cared upon but then when he got older, he wants to be in his own and did things that is not good.

I dont know why some Filipinos would prefer to hear the whole song translated in Mandarin to cater the Chinese audience. I mean no offense tho, but some of them also do not know the songs previously sang by Jessie J. Music knows no language. At the end of the day, ts a matter of rhythm, soul and musical preference. But what really amazes me is how these Chinese value their own songs, traditional Chinese songs, and appreciate the musicality of the artists. Meanwhile, singing competitions in the Phils. only value the range of the voice of the singer. Belters always win, they always do. 👏
It is called respect darling, Filipinos has high standard of music which they paid respect to the song and to the countries they perform.
Coz she wants you all understand the meaning of the song. She wants to reach the heart of the audience.
Thats why most of them are callled "Amateur singing contest" amatuer.. Again amateur. Most of those trying to win are those from lesser fortunate circumstances(before) and also their medias aim is entertainment. Know the difference in just being a singer and an artist.. I'm a Filipino and I swear I have heard this song being sung in many version but this one really went through me. Every words are felt. The emotion is there. This is perfection.
You know that a person is an effective singer when they make you cry even if it’s in another language. Not just the singer tho, but arrangement is also a factor.

In her Facebook Fan page , she asked if what song they want to hear from her. I am proud of our fellow men who chose a Filipino song for her to sing. You see KZ values her fans. You know how great an artist she is and as a person. She sing a Filipino song and sing as well in Chinese as a respect to the Chinese peeps. So it is not a wrong song choice. If you could see her past performances, all of them are powerful but still got a low rank. i have the feeling they don't want her to win. it is biased.
However one thing is for sure, KZ always stuns the crowd. they chant her name and when she sings, just look at the audience especially Hua Hua and James.
As for your song Anak, your parents must be proud of you.
And honestly I cried to this song, I remembered my dad who passed away last November due to cancer and "NAGSISI talaga ako / REGRET it that I haven't said sorry and how much i love him.

She sang in Tagalog & Mandarin's and I don't understand a single words at all. Yet it was beautiful & make me crying
At first I thought she was singing a bit too OA, but as i get to listen to her again, I realized it wasn't OA at all; i learned that it was part of the whole act to express the meaning of the song. That close to tears sound of her voice near the end, mixed with what the lyric meant, it was the perfect combo for this performance. I admired her even more!
Jolo Son you need to make time for your brain to adjust just a little time to appreciate what shes singing. I have her all songs and the more i hear it the more i understand how unique she was.
That's how Filipino sing. If the song is Happy then the Filipino singer sing it in a happy way but if sad then the emotion also is sad.
