In-game, the one I use every single time, is Quen. I use them all frequently, but that one is a cornerstone of my play. I use Aard the least. Lore-wise, I think Igni or Aard was most useful for Geralt.
I have always liked the idea of an order of Sign users who do similar work to Witchers only they focus more on dealing with other people than monsters. The fact that Signs can be learned by almost anyone makes me wonder why not more people use it in the setting.
Magic is very discriminated against among the common folk, since sorcerers take care of it remaining an elite skill. Besides, common people often use "magic" unintentionally, evident by the acidentally cast curses. Words are powerful in slavic coulture in general, its just a matter of will.
I think Quen is the most used sign in the games because it's by far the most practical. Outside of fighting ghosts I don't think I ever use Yrden, it's too situational. In order I'd say Quen > Aard > Igni > Axi > Yrden.

Well I think that Heliotrop could be added to future games (I know it's an abbility from skills tree but I meant as an actual sign to use). It's somewhat a counterpart to Quenn but it protecr the user from magical attacks. Also it would be nice to just cast a Heliotrop sign while our character is falling down instead of comically dying from fall damage.
Witcher signs aren't used anywhere near as much in the books in combat as the games. CDPR took some serious liberties with witcher signs. So a lot of this vid isn't canon and only pertains to the games, and other parts are in contradiction with the canon of the books. Heliotrope doesn't "slow time" in the books. It's done by crossing the arms in front of yourself and it's used to cushion the impact of blows, mainly from magic attacks.
It varies a lot. In the striga tale, Geralt uses aard for long periods of time with no problem, and the same in season of storms. In the main story, the author kinda took sings away from him, though.

@@gwynbleidd1917 I read the spanish version of the book. As I understood it, Geralt held the Striga in place for a while, not pushed it back just once. That would be, either a few aards, or a longer than we're used one (like the witcher 1 opening scene), or both

If you upgrade it, it's a good alternative if igni doesn't work. Put yden on someone and watch them melt.
