I am having trouble getting to the aperture assembly of a Nikon Nikkkor AF 24mm f/1:28 lens. NOT the 1:2.8D model that is accessed from the front , it is the older inexpensive basic AF model. I have cleaned several D type lenses where I gain access by removing screw rings and a snap ring thru the front but this non-(D) model has me stumped. there's very little information available on the AF 24mm f/1:2.8 non distance. The only video I can find is by "DIY EXTRAVAGANZA" and he only deals with the focus helix not the aperture.Your videos have helped me a great deal and any light you can shed on this issue would be appreciated immensely.

Have the same lens with some dirt and some fungus in it and tried to follow your instructions, but failed with 2nd step: Unscrewing the front ring after removing the rubber band. I used really a lot of Aceton at the tiny small whole and as much power as I could (having similar gardening rubber gloves on) but the ring doesn't move, it stucks. Do you have any more hints for me what to do?
Thanks for another detailed video! Is zippo brand lighter fluid the only type that you would use or are there others with the same properties? Could the lighter fluid damage lens coatings?
I have try many different brand's of Lighter Fluid, and there is no differences in the way they work, and the it will not damage the coating in the lens. I have try it in many hundred lens and it all work fine.
Hello @mikenos62, i've fungus behind the front glasse on a nikkor 24mm but an af-d version, can you confirm that's it's possible to access at the rear of these glase, i start to dismount the objective, i have the first the first group but i didn't succed to separate it to access behind the front glasses. Maybe the put some glue on the thread, i've you any tips to dimsount it. Thanks a lot and happy new year. If you want i'll give you a link to a photo to explain my problem.
How much you charger to get a lens fixed? I have a 24mm 2.8 ai-s and the aperture blades don’t open also the focusing ring doesn’t move. Lens hasn’t been dropped. I’m located in CA
Hi, i've seen this video many times, maybe i need your help: is there the possibility that i introduced/caused a fall of image quality or chromatic aberration, after cleaning the rear group of lens and regreasing focus helicoid? (maybe i made something wrong). My 24mm now produces images that are worse than previous, even my 20 and 28 are better now: i made a shot test of distant trees with all theese 3 lenses and tha 24mm now is the worst! Thank you so much.

I have a Tokina 28-80mm atx-pro f/2.8 that has (what looks like) fungal growth that's clouded the front part of an internal element(s). **video on my channel**.. I want to try and use your fix but cannot see how to access the front of the lens - any suggestions would be very helpful!
Thank's Steve, to access the front lens group/front element, I don't have a service manual for that lens, but I would you can peele off the name plate that actually look's like it is a adhesive thin sticker that you can lift with a flat tool, and then there should be 3 screw's (maybe there are 6 screw's). BEFORE you unscrew them you should set a mark so you know where the front lens group sit when it sit correct. It's difficult to see on the pictures on the internet of this lens, to see how it's taken apart, it could also be that there is a retaining ring that you have to unscrew and in that way get access to the front lens element.

Hi Steve, I have look' at your film and it look's like that around the edge of the front lens there is a sticky foil that covers the screw's that are maybe behind it, so if you peele that off it's maybe the way to open it. It could also be that there are 2 nothes so you could use a lens tool to unscrew the front lens group. Just some idea's.

I'm certainly not going to loosen the screws on the outside of the lens body, the screw heads are revealed when you snap the focusing ring from manual to autofocus (this is shown in my video)… I would be worried about what that would loosen You are a great help to us mear mortals who are fed up with having to pay upwards of 50% of the lens value to people who, in my estimation are not as precise or as thourough as you. . . Best wishes from a most grateful, if rather nervous Brit' ☺

Check the optics with a light test. This will give you the answer you're looking for.
