I think they were planning to make something similar to the original ending, where he was reborn as a mortal, and A Mi found him, and we know, that in the beginning the drama has been for 18 episodes longer. After new Chinese law was issued, they must cut it shorter. There have been plans for season two, which were banned later according to the same new law. So now we have crappy and unfair ending. I am still hopelessly wishing for season two (one can wish, doesn't she? 😅)
