  • Cattails provide excellent habitat for wildlife around a pond but sometimes they can become invasive and take over. Here's how to control them effectively and avoid the back-breaking chore of physical removal. Be sure to use with an additional surfactant for the best results.

    the pond that we would be spraying is the neighborhood irrigation pond. How will this affect lawns/gardens being watered from this pond?

    does this product work on growth in a gravel driveway, Also is it still legal? and available in Ontario Canada? Thanks.

      I'm not sure I can answer either question accurately. First the product is meant to be used on emergents around ponds. Second, we don't work in Canada...only the US so I'm not sure what is legal to use up there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help on this one.

    where can you buy the shore clear products in Ontario Canada

    • @klmponds

      Hi Maria...I am honestly not sure. I usually suggest people checking amazon.com but I cannot speak for if it's legal for use, or available in Canada.

    Hi,Could you tell me the mix ratio of Shore Klear and Cide Kick to control cattail growth?

    • @KLMPublications
      @KLMPublications 7 лет назад

      Hi Ian...generally 2 or 3 oz of Shore-Klear and 2 or 3 oz of Cide Kick per gallon of water is sufficient.

    Another question? None of my so called Cattails display any seed pods ? Is this normal or do you think I have a different kind of weed?

    • @KLMPublications
      @KLMPublications 6 лет назад

      Hi Gene..well you might have a different kind of weed or it could be timing...one thing I will say is if you treat with something like the Shore Klear mentioned, this will take care of all t ypes of emergents. You might visit a site called Aqua Plant...just search for it on google and see what you can find there on emergent plants and you can probably confirm what you have growing there from that.

    Last question. I have identified my emergent growth as Bur Weed. Does Shore clear and a surfactant still work?

    • @klmponds
      @klmponds  6 лет назад

      Hi Gene...to the best of my knowledge Bur Weed is more of a lawn weed. So I'm not really familiar with it. That said, I would think Shore Klear would still work because it's used for emergents and not submerged weeds.

    what happens to the cattails after they die?

    • @klmponds
      @klmponds  6 лет назад +3

      Hi Gene...well that's the really big question...if they're good cattails they will go to heaven...if not, well... Sorry, Gene I couldn't help myself on that one. I think I know what you mean though...of course we don't want dead plants and such in our pond if possible. Like any plant though, once treated, and sometimes it takes a few applications, but the plant will begin to die off.
      You don't want to cut them too early on, but allow the chemical to get down into the roots to kill the whole plant. Once the plant goes entirely limp, you can cut the stalks with a weed cutter or rake and remove the dead plants. Leaving any dead plant in a pond is just feeding the problem down the road (dead plants = compost).
      If water levels are low, there are a lot of methods of dealing with the cattails, though I'm not sure how well they'll work if the rhizome isn't removed. But burning, grazing, and physical removal are all options.
      Hope this helps for you and thank you again for your question! It was a good one to ask.

      @klmponds  7 лет назад

      Hi Ted. Go to the link provided in the video information on youtube...I can't post links in comments... and you'll find current pricing. You may have to tap on the "show more" text to see it but you'll find the link with the video on youtube. Note as well in the related products, for this to work you'll need to use it with Cide Kick which is an activator. Both products are listed there with current prices.
      Thanks!

    Will this product harm the fish in my pond?

    • @klmponds
      @klmponds  6 лет назад

      As with most chemicals the stock answer is no, not when used as directed. The vast majority of the treatment is meant to hit the cattails and stay on those. Repeated doses may be necessary to take them all out. With all that said, it's important to note that this contains glyphosate...the same stuff as in round up...due to this we no longer carry it but it can be found easily enough online. If you have concerns I would either use it sparingly or avoid it altogether.

    Sounds highly toxic and illegal in most states.

    • @klmsolutions
      @klmsolutions 5 лет назад

      Nope, unfortunately it's not illegal in most states. And I will say, compared to what you see sprayed on farm fields all over the country, this can be more targeted and a drop in the bucket. That said, we quit selling all chemicals but one low dose algaecide two years ago.
