Thank you very much. I have had a ney for many years and haven’t focused enough yet because of how difficult it was to make a sound when I first bought it, but I know I can do it if I put my mind to it. Thanks for this video it should prove helpful.
I've been trying to get a sound out of my ney for on and off around 10 years now. I've been using the other technique with the teeth, but can never really do it. Now I tried your technique and I got a lot of sound finally. I do want to learn to make the deep sounds though
I have a ney flute and can make the sound easily now but I can’t find many good tutorials for learning songs does anyone have any suggestions for this?
Thanks alot ! I was trying every thing with no luck . Watched your video once and achieved sound 👌, iv had my ney for a few days and I really enjoy it. Just playing with that one sound and everything you can do with it , I am excited to keep studying with you !
Sir, your teach is useful and precise, after a lot of tries without guide, for first time I get the sound of my recovered ney. THANKYOU SO MUCH!!! :) I,m glad!
Thank you so much for your really helpful video. Just received my first Ney today and managed to get some beautiful sounds within minutes! Never thought it possible. Wishing you eternal peace and happiness .
hello as an additional tip: I found out that if you can't get a sound from the ney despite practicing for a long time, you should simply de-grade the mouthpiece, especially with the plastic version. As was well explained, the sound on the mouthpiece is created by splitting the airflow. The plastic mouthpiece of my ney was round and blunt. Of course, no sound could be created in this way. I sharpened the edge of the mouthpiece with a knife and now I can play nicely.
This is awsome ! I bought the Ney a month ago and I coudn't play until I've seen your video once again and .. Today for the first time my Nay Plays :) - Yupi I Ho ! :) Thnak you
I want to learn the ney next ... at the moment i am learning to play fife; which itself is difficult to get a sound from when starting. But the ney is next on my list. Looking forward to it x
Thank you very much for this. I had been trying to get a note and failing for days, but after watching your video once, I tried your technique and got a strong note straight away the very first time. You have significantly improved my life.
Always been a huge fan of Egyptian music but can’t find many easily accessible music especially at good quality but if I get one of these I could create my own
I'm at this point where I can get a tone on both sides, I'm usually left-handed but I play guitar on both sides, so I don't know what to do, it took me plenty more time to find the tone holding the Ney on the right side, is this ok to play the Ney on the left side?
hello, in another instructional it said to hiss and place ney off to the side which made me produce a sound but you can hear the air. Your sound is very clear. I don't know what I'm doing wrong
So, while blowing what is going on inside the mouth. Is your throat open and tongue depressed/relaxed with tip lightly touching the back of lower front teeth? Or is the throat a little more closed and tongue a little more forward? Should it be a hollow whistle or like a regular whistle? Where exactly is the ney rasting on the lip?
Hello Niri, thanks for this initial tutorial... I would like to ask if in the very beginning it is easier to produce the sound without covering all the holes or by covering all the holes. I started to produce a little sound but on the second octave, the lowest octave seems pretty hard to. Thanks Max
Thanks Niri for this explanation... even in the middle octave "closed positions" are hard or just the lowest octave? BTW I am using the plastic Nay I purchased a while back directly from Arab Instruments;-)
Hello Niri, thank you so much for your video lessons. They helped me a lot! I also find it really hard to get down the lowest octave. Have you, since, found some tips to help us achieve this ? :) Thanks again. Henri
Now I finally know the meaning of my name! My name is Ney. It doesn't mean anything in my language but Ney is cool! May be in the future I will go travel and find the Ney.
I came to this video because I have a set of Nay flutes and after many attempts to get a noise out of them became convinced that they are broken. I will give your technique a try, and eventually will give up, and these flutes will remain as a decoration in the room. Hehe.
Thank you very much Niri, your tutorial is really helpful. I started making sound with whistling. But i am a bit confused, do i have to make whistling sound or just blow air into the new? :)
I have a question. Are women allowed to play the ney in Arab cultures? I have watched a lot of videos and I never see any women playing one. I have always loved the sound of this instrument and would like to learn to play it but I'm female and I don't want to offend anyone.
Ok, I have probably the silliest question imaginable, but here goes: Has anyone ever tried playing a ney like a trumpet, as in buzzing the lips straight into the top? Similar to the technique of a mute cornett? I can get some pretty cool sounds out of it but not sure if anyone has developed this method at all. Ok bye *runs*
Literally 1 min after watching this video after the 10th time? I can get notes!!!!!! THANK YOU! DONT a give up people. I foun that if I let my elbow holding the flute rest naturally i can find the sweet spot faster!
Hello, I am looking for a English speaker to improve my language skills especialy speaking skills. In exchange for teaching Nay instrument. But there is a little detail, I am living in Turkey. If you accept, we can make video meeting in our mutual proper times via whatsapp or messenger etc.
Ney's not an arabic instument though , nor is oud. their both persian instruments. you can't just take an instrument and name it to your country. well since half of the persian culture is being stolen or reshaped then sure you can do that like million of others did ...
Thank you very much. I have had a ney for many years and haven’t focused enough yet because of how difficult it was to make a sound when I first bought it, but I know I can do it if I put my mind to it. Thanks for this video it should prove helpful.

Thanks for your educational video, just for the record , Ney is a Persian Instrument.
Nope, it was played long time before persians appear in history. In ancient Egypt and Sumer for example.
Why is it when i blow it and make the sound...its a much higher note than the one you are making?
Thank you!!
is it normal for the lips to get tingly and numb after the firfst tries?
