I still have a tail now and i had a similar thing happen to me but at the lakes in the area where i live. The area i live in has 3 lakes you can swim in and during holidays especially in summer i get that a lot. It’s always nice to see the little kids eyes light up and i met a little girl this summer who was shy but it was so cute. She tugged on her moms shirt and pointed me out while i had my tail on. They both came over and the little girl even asked for a picture and of course i had to say yes! Made my day.

Just a heads up people: please think twice before giving mermaid tails to kids. They can be a drowning hazard in children. Kids get stuck underwater and can’t get themselves to the surface. Love the swimming and flowing hair though
This is usually cause caregivers haven’t made sure the kids can swim without a tail first. One of the “warning” videos I’ve seen, showed a kid basically faceplanting and hang upside down in the water unable to get upright and tread water after an attempted dive. That to me, is a red flag that they likely did not know how to swim beyond dog paddling and should not have been given a tail in the first place. With or without swimming experience though, no one should swim without a swim buddy. Experienced adults can run into problems as well when they try to push their limits.
yeah, i'm twelve and have a tail made of just regular bathing suit material and nothing else, and i make sure not to go deeper than five feet, which is about as far as i can stand on tip toes. I am also a strong swimmer though

If you or someone you know is planning to gift someone, especially a child a tail, please educate them on the emergency way to abandon their tails if there is an emergency situation underwater! Usually a lot of tails made of fabric and fins allow you to kick the fin and tail off of your feet and away from your body so you can separate your legs and swim away! (I practiced this when I first got mine, I think it came with a video tutorial!) Be sure to look up the tutorials and learn them! Also, if you are an adult now like I am (I made this comment a while back if you couldnt tell), and you decide to get a more expensive silicone tail, be sure to learn the proper exit method for those as well! My daughter is 16 and has been “mermaiding” for about 8 years. She is on her second or third tail now and absolutely adores it. For the first year or so, she just sat in the shallows of the lake in it while she played with the sand. We’ve lived a house with an outdoor pool for about 7 years now and she is still excited to put her tail on every summer. To all the people saying they are dangerous, I imagine they could be, but the secret is to keep your kids close enough that you could grab them if necessary. I’ve never had to. When friends come to swim though, they are allowed to try it on but only out of the water as it does take a bit of skill to learn to swim with one on. She had a serious accident in January and had a major knee surgery in February. While she’s upset that she can’t dance, she has spent the last several months being sad about not being able to swim with her tail this summer 😢

If you decide to get a fabric tail for yourself, I would suggest a Courtney Mermaid original. Her tails are stunning and look as close to real as a fabric tail can look. She's such an artist.
Sadly Courtney aka Vancouver Mermaid does not publicly sale tails anymore. She does still sell and do customs when slots open to members of her pateron. Her tails do range on the higher side but rightfully so as you said, the are stunning and very realistic.

Im retraining my body for a mermaid tail and it’s so fun! I have an elite finfun tail (Ruby Calypso) and it weighs a ton! So I’m currently working on my technique and breathing so that it makes it easier when swimming with the tail. I can’t wait til summer :))

I used to bindy legs together with ace bandages and wore flippers as a kid and pretend to be a mermaid. Until someone made me a tail i loved it and it was the only way I'd swim in our pool 😂. It was definitely an upgrade from tying my ankles together with hair ties in the bathtub😅. I miss those days of my childhood. Such innocence and the mystical way i looked at the world.

To learn to swim you must first learn to float, once you do that you won't panic or have to worry about sinking. Hope this helps a little.

I used to bindy legs together with ace bandages and wore flippers as a kid and pretend to be a mermaid. Until someone made me a tail i loved it and it was the only way I'd swim in our pool 😂. It was definitely an upgrade from tying my ankles together with hair ties in the bathtub😅. I miss those days of my childhood. Such innocence and the mystical way i looked at the world.
