My 5 year old’s eyes got very wide - because I said “sure!” When she asked if she could be a mermaid when she grows up, and searched for a video to show her. This one came up, and when she saw Quinn, we both just squealed in joy! She is so beautiful! And so is Sky/Starla. What a magical experience, but wow, what hard work.
I did mermaiding as a child, and know a few years later I really feel how much I miss this kind of freedom under water. I need to start mermaiding again, it‘s like my perfect therapy

I've seen some behind the scenes of what professional mermaids do and I gotta say it is not for the weak lol! They truly are elegant and inspiring. I always wanted to be Ariel when I was little, spending alllll the time in the bath or in pools pretending I had a tail. Even as an adult I can spend hours at the pool. I'm glad she gets to live her dream and bring magic to children's lives.

This was great. I live in Michigan surrounded by 4 of the 5 Great Lakes. You are never more than 6 miles (about 10 km) from a body of water. Knowing how to swim here is vitally important and most of us learn from an early age. I just had this conversation with 2 of my adult children about the disparity between white people and black people knowing how to swim. My observation has been that most black adults I see/know have never learned how to swim or feel comfortable in the water. They learned this from their parents and pass this down to their children. This is tragic, especially not being comfortable in the water and knowing how to float (one could argue this this more important than knowing how to swim because if you can stay calm and float your chances of survival increase). I love that there is a black “Little Mermaid” although I also see how this could have been done better. I especially love that Quinn is a black mermaid. I hope that with more exposure and more people doing this that more black children will be encouraged to gain that comfort in the water and hopefully learn to swim ❤

i was named after the little mermaid and its not my favorite disney movie but everyone talks about how its about a girl falling for a guy right away but i see it as a girl finding her voice and fighting for it back after having a controlling father and negative people aronud her taking it away. im white but i think this message is even better for little black girls in this society. maybe i see it this way because i grew up with a very controlling father, abusive home, negative people surrounding me, always wishing i was in the others' "world" but i love this message so much. i never think about it as a girl just falling immediately for a guy. she fought to have her voice back after her innocence was manipulated and dreamed of escaping her controlling father to have freedom.
