People are arguing as if the WI was selecting a T20 world cup squad to develop players. They were selecting a squad to win. David Warner was in worse form than Gayle but with his experience and record he got the support of his country and went on to do well. Instead all Gayle got were bashes. We had young players on that tour who are better than Rutherford etc who went and did not perform. It is not like the entire team was filled with "dinasours". It was a good mix of experience and youth. Which young player performed in that world cup that leads to a suggestion that youth was the way to go over experience? The sad truth is that the entire team (both old and young) failed and had a disappointing world cup.

@Elisha Shalom I have read about Supercat's first interaction with DW and also how DW pepped up the WI quartet before one of the test match in Adelaide by making them to run up the hill and gave feedback to Supercat that Big Bird is most frustrated of the lot. Supercat handed the ball to Big Bird , he finished up the game before lunch. Those were the Golden days of WI, when the game was played with pride. Doubt how much the current WI team is aware of the history.
What fitness issues west indies cricket have with Hetmyer none the problem is west indies have not created a proper structure to manage players in a professionals way all of their talented players are being distracted by this lawless practice.. How can you cry fitness with a player and select Rakeem Cornwall what is the balance,, you selected a team where the top order batsmen don't even know how to play a proper defensive stroke and don't know where the fourth stump is.. West indies Cricket is failing because the regional championship is yet to become a five day game to improve technique and better balance for the bowlers and batters, West Indies do not have English conditions for players to be successful. Don't forget we don't have many players in the English county championship. This is due to us dominant in the previous years overseas. Gayle were never a runner at cricket not only now but check back ten aback ,he stands still to hit fours and sixes, remember early in his career he had problems with his heart and had to do surgery , so I don't know if that were a problem for him don't want to exhaust himself to much

Honestly, I think its a bit unfair to expect players to maintain their fitness year round. The Nfl has a training camp and preseason for players to get themselves back into football shape. Some players come into training camp with their fitness maintained, some dont. Its not an excuse but some players are suffering from there being no off-season for cricket
No. They all come to training camp in shape in all the American pro sports so much so that try talk every year about reducing training camp/preseason in order to make room on the calendar for expanded playoffs.
