The Number of channels selection only affects PCM streams, not Passthrough. SO if you have 2.0 set and also have passthrough "On" you will still get 7.1 atmos for any stream that contains the appropriate audio channel.

I use 10 metre hdmi amazon basic cables from pc to projector for 4k hdr atmos and it never fails. Cable was 8 UK pounds. Have another 10 metre going to TV and no issues for 4k hdr and atmos

what a good video congratulations. i have a nvidia shiled 2019 and download several movies with dolby truehd 7.1, install plex and when I see one of those movies from plex, dolby atmos recognizes me from the dolby true hd track, but the playback sticks a lot and everything sticks, does anyone know what could be happening? ... it only happens with 4k movies and dolby true hd
Just want to thank you for this video. I'm new to "the Shield" and to Kodi. I couldn't get it to pass through any sound format. My Denon receiver kept telling me everything was PCM format. I contacted Nvidia twice and the put me through things like changing ports, cables, using flash drive. Nothing worked. They never mentioned that I had to direct Kodi to pass through. The agent didn't know it is my guess. Then by chance late last night Your video popped up on my you tube search. And now I have all the sound formats needed! Thanks so much! Awesome!!!

Hi, I'm using Kodi on the amazon firestick 4k and I am not getting Dolby surround output. Im using a Sony ht s20r 5.1 soundbar which only supports Dolby Digital. Tried these settings with many Dolby files but it outputs to all speakers ( like a stereo file being upmixed - like how youtube does now). For some videos, the audio didn't work when passthrough was on. When I disabled passthrough, they too played like other videos with upmixed sound. I tried switching on and off all the passthrough options as seen here. But no luck. I noticed that the same upmix issue is happening with VLC as well though passthrough was enabled on VLC. I then played the same files from a usb device using the TV's native video player and it worked perfectly! And apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ with 5.1 content works fine too.
The signal coming into my Marantz SR7011 receiver shows sound as multi in + neural x and the signal as pcm, when I hit the info button on my remote. My source content is coming from amazon prime and youtube using an nvidia shield tv. I'm try to playback the content in Dolby Atmos. My tv is an Lg c8 oled connected to the Marantz via an hdmi cable.

my shield is at 4k at my samsung q70 but the issue is everything is zoomed out, icons and thumbnails are too small even subtitles , i have to switch it to 1080p to make it back to the normal view , i dont knew if thats a problem or being normal

@@miket.3248 That's tricky, either put the files on a USB stick. Or connect Kodi to your PC and put all your files in a folder so Kodi can see them. I use Plex for my file stuff.

Since the last experience update, Kodi won't play anything for longer than 17 mins. before the screen goes black, or freezes as if I've paused the movie. Including video via PM server addon. I have a question ; Sometimes Kodi does not play dutch subs, for example i think external subs etc... I have no option to choose the subs that i want. I a take vlc player, then can i use a button on my tv remote that i can choose dutch or other subs if they are avaliable. How i do that with Kodi? In settings kodi i set it on dutch subs but sometimes i need an option to set it myself on a button on the remote to dutch or other subs? With doesnt work that with Kodi? Can you explain your comment related to if you don't see the HD Audio pass-through options (TrueHD and DTS - HD) that there is a disconnect between KODI and the receiver? I know many people are having this same issue, but there doesn't seem to be a clear fix. I am using the KDLinks A400 media player and have a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX303 receiver. It also seems like many Pioneer owners (disproportionate amount) are experiencing this issue. Perhaps someone can explain how they fixed the issue.
Hmmm, all I can say Is double check the audio settings on the pioneer for auto detect, and make sure bitstream Is used for Kodi to receiver. Also check audio settings on the streaming device Itself. Good luck!

@@TheRafcave very similar to my setup, except when I go to add files within the Videos or Movies menu item, I can successfully locate them, but they just don't show up and index after that. Right now I can only save individual folders as favourites. Is it because I have to browse to my HDD via Upnp? As it's connected to my router. Would you have a guide on the setup at all?
@@m0usju1c3 That's a little more difficult when using a router as the network location. I don't have that set up. Maybe just keep trying to re locate the folder again.

When you stream a 4k stream through kodi addons...do you still get the 7.2 atmos? I have a firestick and it does great dolby digital for its own content..but I cant get the kodi addon stream to do the same. I also have a mid grade android box that i use to stream 4k from kodi addons. I can get decent pro logic sound but im unable to get the digital logic from the box. Im using optic cable from the tv to the receiver in both cases as my receiver doesnt have hdmi ports. Should i be using the opti cable from the back of my box to the receiver instead? At the end of the day...i want to be able to open a streaming kodi addon...choose a 4k/atmos or dolbydigital source...and get the proper audio signal into my speakers. Any advice would help and be greatly appreciated. Do I need to upgrade my box or switch around some cables.

Sorry men but you can make a test, i read in forum the nvidia shield can't read NTFS but with GPT partition only read MBR partition, mi HardDrive is in GPT because is the only partition format that allow 8Tb in one partition, only if you can test in a memory usb make it in ntfs and gpt partition, i have the money to buy it but i dn't want problems with that, thanks again for all.
I thought the number of channels to set in kodi only applied to pcm audio the wiki suggests setting it to 2.0 and my receiver detects atmos content with the no of channels set to 2.0 ?
@@TheRafcave I'm connecting my shield ( leia 18.5) to my receiver using hdmi and have hdmi out from the receiver to my tv. HDMI has a higher band with so is preferable to spdif. not sure what bitstream audio setting you are referring to.

kevinas88 I have recently purchased the Onkyo TX-NR686 and I must say that I'm very impressed with this unit. I upgraded from an Onkyo TX SR703 that was 7.1 but I couldn't get some of the newer audio formats. The setup was extremely easy with the accuEQ mic and only took about 15 minutes after getting all of my speakers connected. The difference is night and day for me.
@@darrylpolite8722 eventually I went for Sony STR-DN1080 and Focal Sib Evo 5.1.2 speakers and yes, I can agree it's the difference as day and night from my old setup.. especially when I watch 4K movies with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio tracks.
Is Kodi slow and sluggish on Nvidia shield? I assume this is the 2017 model given the time of the video. I have one of the Chinese android boxes and it is very slow and sluggish and I am tired of it. Looking for something just for Kodi streaming that runs faster or at least not that slow or sluggish. I was looking for Nvidia, but I am also afraid it could be an overkill as I don't use it for anything else.
I have a similar setup with SanDisk 256 gb pro 3.1. Everything is working except for downloading torrents through private trackers. Do you know any workaround for this?
@@TheRafcave Yes, I've been using my pc for that for the past 20 years as well but I would like to get away from that since I've bought this setup. It seems unnecessary to download it to my pc just to copy the movie to a USB and then plug it in into the shield
Hi. Good video. I currently have a pc with kodi connected to my AV receiver. When I turn off the tv and AV receiver and leave kodi running, and turn everything back on again, the AV receiver looses handshake with the pc therefore looses its 7.1 sound configuration (done by design in windows) which I than have to manually reconfigure each time. I’m looking to get an NVIDIA Shield (Linux based) but want to know if suffers from the same issue. Please could you test by leaving Kodi running > turn off your onko receiver for 5 min > turn on onko receiver and test audio output. I would be ever grateful or the results. Thanks
Honestly that will not resolve the issue as when the AV is switched off it’s at this point windows looses the handshake. I should have made this clear, the configuration is lost on the windows box itself and not in kodi settings.
THE RAFCAVE I was asking if you have noticed this or could test it, to determine if I should purchase the Nvidia Shield. I do not know if this problem exists on shield and cannot find any articles that mention this.
Your In good hands with the Nvidia Shield. I have left the shield on before with many different receivers on and off and everything works just like the way I left It. Full HD audio settings everytime.

I’m very grateful for finding this video but need your help a little more. Using Kodi on nvedia shield through an Onkyo 686 to a 4K JVC projector and followed all your settings but when I press the info button while playing a Dolby atmos file it still shows Multich PCM rather than Atmos. Also even though I have tried on the shield and on kodi to fill the screen for movie playback I can’t get rid of the borders all around. No matter how much I try to push out the arrows they run into the sides as if it can’t sense how big my screen is. Your guidance will be much appreciated!

It may be a tv setting. On my vizio tv the sound mode has to be set to digital to get atmos and auto to get dts.

Hi, I'm using an NSF server from my PC called haneWIN. It sends all my 4K files extremely fast to the shield. 😉

Absolutely! Just choose the folder on the usb stick and play with kodi. Full 4k HDR Atmos!

Yes, then your reciever will do the rest.

Im using optic cable from the tv to the receiver in both cases as my receiver doesnt have hdmi ports. Should i be using the opti cable from the back of my box to the receiver instead?
At the end of the day...i want to be able to open a streaming kodi addon...choose a 4k/atmos or dolbydigital source...and get the proper audio signal into my speakers.
Any advice would help and be greatly appreciated.
Do I need to upgrade my box or switch around some cables.
I don't use 4k add-ons with kodi, I only play full 4k files thru kodi.

Any way I can get the link to the Kodi and the build? I have the vizo 5.1.2 atmos system. I'm new to the shield. Another question I had was, if I had Atmos content on USB, will it play the sound in Atmos passthrough?
You can just go to Google store and download the new Kodi. And yes If you have a USB stick with video files than Kodi will play them In Atmos.

Sorry men but you can make a test, i read in forum the nvidia shield can't read NTFS but with GPT partition only read MBR partition, mi HardDrive is in GPT because is the only partition format that allow 8Tb in one partition, only if you can test in a memory usb make it in ntfs and gpt partition, i have the money to buy it but i dn't want problems with that, thanks again for all.

I thought the number of channels to set in kodi only applied to pcm audio the wiki suggests setting it to 2.0 and my receiver detects atmos content with the no of channels set to 2.0 ?
You need 7.1 bitstream audio set.
@@TheRafcave I'm connecting my shield ( leia 18.5) to my receiver using hdmi and have hdmi out from the receiver to my tv. HDMI has a higher band with so is preferable to spdif. not sure what bitstream audio setting you are referring to.

kevinas88 I have recently purchased the Onkyo TX-NR686 and I must say that I'm very impressed with this unit. I upgraded from an Onkyo TX SR703 that was 7.1 but I couldn't get some of the newer audio formats.
The setup was extremely easy with the accuEQ mic and only took about 15 minutes after getting all of my speakers connected. The difference is night and day for me.
@@darrylpolite8722 eventually I went for Sony STR-DN1080 and Focal Sib Evo 5.1.2 speakers and yes, I can agree it's the difference as day and night from my old setup.. especially when I watch 4K movies with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio tracks.

Is Kodi slow and sluggish on Nvidia shield? I assume this is the 2017 model given the time of the video. I have one of the Chinese android boxes and it is very slow and sluggish and I am tired of it. Looking for something just for Kodi streaming that runs faster or at least not that slow or sluggish. I was looking for Nvidia, but I am also afraid it could be an overkill as I don't use it for anything else.
Nvidia shield is king for Kodi. I wouldn't suggest anything else. 👍🏽

I have a similar setup with SanDisk 256 gb pro 3.1. Everything is working except for downloading torrents through private trackers. Do you know any workaround for this?

@@TheRafcave Yes, I've been using my pc for that for the past 20 years as well but I would like to get away from that since I've bought this setup. It seems unnecessary to download it to my pc just to copy the movie to a USB and then plug it in into the shield
Yeah I don't go straight to the shield. It's just a client from all the files on the PC.

Hi. Good video. I currently have a pc with kodi connected to my AV receiver. When I turn off the tv and AV receiver and leave kodi running, and turn everything back on again, the AV receiver looses handshake with the pc therefore looses its 7.1 sound configuration (done by design in windows) which I than have to manually reconfigure each time. I’m looking to get an NVIDIA Shield (Linux based) but want to know if suffers from the same issue. Please could you test by leaving Kodi running > turn off your onko receiver for 5 min > turn on onko receiver and test audio output. I would be ever grateful or the results. Thanks
Have you tried turning off the HDMI cec? That will disconnect the HDMI power on and off link.
Honestly that will not resolve the issue as when the AV is switched off it’s at this point windows looses the handshake. I should have made this clear, the configuration is lost on the windows box itself and not in kodi settings.

Your In good hands with the Nvidia Shield. I have left the shield on before with many different receivers on and off and everything works just like the way I left It. Full HD audio settings everytime.

I’m very grateful for finding this video but need your help a little more. Using Kodi on nvedia shield through an Onkyo 686 to a 4K JVC projector and followed all your settings but when I press the info button while playing a Dolby atmos file it still shows Multich PCM rather than Atmos. Also even though I have tried on the shield and on kodi to fill the screen for movie playback I can’t get rid of the borders all around. No matter how much I try to push out the arrows they run into the sides as if it can’t sense how big my screen is. Your guidance will be much appreciated!

I don’t see the bitstream option, I have selected allow passthrough. Tried the video calibration tool in kodi but it won’t push out all the way.
