Archy Marshall. What a fucking icon. He will be regarded as one of England's finest, along with Bowie, Morrissey, and Ian Curtis. Just wish more people would recognize his genius, one of the best artists in history is alive and young in 2017, producing music, playing shows, and with a whole life ahead of him.

Kyle Egenes “Iconoclasm is the social belief in the importance of the destruction of icons and other images or monuments, most frequently for religious or political reasons.” So no.
“Frequently” was in reference to the religious connotations, not the actual definition of the word iconoclasm itself. That word comes from the study of symbols, something which I’ll readily admit that I’m not super well-versed in. That said, I do know enough to say that iconoclasm is a school within that field which argued that you couldn’t represent an object, person or concept through another; I.e. iconography. This began as a religious debate over depictions of Jesus within Christiandom, through artifacts like the cross but also literal depictions of him as man. Many people know of the Islamic prohibition on depictions of Muhammad, but this actually was the same debate too. A bit of an aside, but that is the clerical interpretation of Islamic doctrine, nowhere are depictions explicitly prohibited. Those clerics are iconoclastic. Because much art early on was religious in nature, the field of iconography became a branch of art history which extended to secular works too. Hence why the definition mentioned that iconoclasm “frequently” has a religious connotation. Hope that makes sense, the point being that King Krule literally can’t be iconoclastic because iconoclasm explicitly rejects the idea that an object or person can represent anything but itself.
