Thank you Mel. A couple of extra tips for the future reader: a 600mm breaker with 17mm socket easily tweaks the sprung tensioner pulley bolt when needing to slip the belt on and off. I think the hardest part of this job is that the two top mount bolts are completely out of sight when looking up from underneath. The alternator casing is a very snug fit too, the original units being reluctant to drop out and the replacements not usually too willing to fit back into place either. If you're struggling it's quite easy just to drop the front part of the front offside wheel arch liner out (RHD), that way you can not only see how you're doing with the alignment of the top mounts (impossible to view from underneath) but also it's quite a bit easier to get onto them from the side with an extension bar. Infact it's a lot easier that way.
So my wife asked me "why are you watching someone change an alternator? you could do it in your sleep? " I am asking myself the same thing why is this entertaining? I must be strange as I enjoyed it 😊👍
I appreciate your dedication to video making. I hate working upside down, on the floor, crumpled up under a van. Gravel too. Nice. How you can do that and think about filming I'll never know! Thanks, Mel!
Another great vid Mel, I am sure that your glow plug light should not be on when the engine is running. All the sprinters I havea driven never had that on except when you first turn the ignition on and never when the engine was running. But this is your Van and you know its quirks. Keep up the excellent work on the vids really do look forward to them.

Hope your good mel,at 5:00 it looks like an intercooler pipe is weeping oil which is totally normal on a diesel but I would drain it to make sure theres not loads incase of a "runaway"👍
Thank you for your concern that’s really kind of you i have drained the inter cooler the pipe is now new I had inlet manifold leak that’s where most of the residue has come from 👍
Hi Mel. Work of art that one- underneath your van, taking the alternator off and filming at the same time! Short of about 5 pairs of hands there mate 😃 Good job done there. Apart from charging your leisure batteries quicker, is there any other obvious benefit to having one. Also, how do the two compare in price. All the best mate. Mal and Dave in Stoke
@@BigVanSmallWorld not concerned as much as i know diesels oil pan gaskets always leak a little....but ya that engine in particular ......with the defective oil cooler gasket on top ....should have it looked at......
If the new alternator has a much larger current output (over double) does the existing big cable going to the battery need upgrading - or is it common cable whatever the alternator output? Is there a fuse in the feed from the alternator to the van battery, and does this need to be changed?
Thanks for the instructions & tip about adding leverage on a spanner. In the US we call them wrenches. May I ask about the steering wheel lock? I have not seen one like it before.
Good morning definitely no negative needed here thanks for keeping it positive 😂 good luck with the alternator hope it’s not to much of an issue for you 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel, always love your videos. Can you tell me how you managed to put the alternator in position and also put the bolts through? I tried this today refitting my alternator but found it was far too heavy to hold up and manage the bolts too. Any advise welcome

Hello Mel just wondering how your alternator is holding up I got a new one in December from euro parts it's making a horrible noise already good job I kept the old one do you still recommend the one you put on thanks
Mel you want to get rid of that steering lock mucka as that the sort they can use as a lever to bust the steering lock off. And how come your heater light stays on after it starts.
I never thought about that when I bought mine , but they would have to break the windscreen as mine catches on the screen if moved to the left or on the door pillar moved to the right , I suppose if anyone really wants something they will get it , but at least one slows them down a bit , I hope lol
Hi Mel is that a known fault why your glow plug light stayed lit after your van was running ? I have always known them that your turn your ignition on wait for light to go out so you know your glow plugs have heated up then you start the engine

Voltage is slightly low for a new alternator, should see above 14v. 14.4 ideally.
Yes it’s ok now runs at 14.2
Hello Mel, good call upgrading to 180amp, I'm doing the same for the same reason.
Why is your glow plug light on?
A true reading would be putting an amp clamp on, (its a new main battery) On a side note glow plugs can snap!!!!!!
