This is one those movies that would be so heart-wrenching and beautiful even without dialogues. Just images and music. And this video is the proof. Thank you, The beauty of. Time for a rewatch, btw. 🤧
This is a just about perfect looking movie. It all just feels so off and sterile, the 1:1 aspect ratio adds to that. The whole film feels like grief. It feels like the aftermath of a man's death. The visuals are so haunting, they stick with you for a lifetime. I remember seeing one frame from this a few years back, and I remembered the title for 3 years until I finally watched it on Netflix.
Just watched this movie today. I was anxious for spending Xmas eve all by myself for the first time, and this film relaxed and calmed me so much. I even fell asleep when she was eating pie, woke up and she was still eating it
Every once in a while I'll remember this film and the extremely powerful emotions I felt while watching it. And I'm left wondering why I ever stopped thinking about those emotions in the first place. Life is funny.
I finally watched the movie. This might be the best movie recommendation anyone has ever given me. What a beautiful masterpiece! The music, cinematography and atmosphere of this movie are unique. I cried throughout the whole thing. A true piece of art
One of the most incredible films I've ever seen. My fav movie of 2017. I've never been so affected by a film that has maybe 12 paragraphs of dialogue total. It's a love it or hate it test of patience story of love, loss, legacy and how we grieve. A true masterpiece that people said was so boring or they loved it like me. A test of agility that's for sure but understand its meaning and you'll be blown away
I came here and I saw 2 mins of the video thinking I've already seen the movie. I didn't. I just did it. I loved it. And I just finished the last 2 minutes of this video. This is amazing.
I just watched this over the weekend. I’m a guy and I loved it. My wife bailed on this during the pie scene. Since then, I wondered why. I have experienced loss, my wife has not. I think about what’s next more than I care to admit. I cared for my mother when she was dying of cancer, my childhood friend of 30 years died of cancer at 40 years old, a close friend/coworker was murdered and my Dad is in hospice care with dementia and will pass soon. My wife has both parents and has never lost anyone close to her. Those losses were all devastating to me. They took years to process and changed me in profound ways. As I’ve gotten older and became a Father, I’m not afraid of dying so much as I am afraid of my son growing up without his Dad. I cannot imagine him shouldering that pain. I will definitely be a spirit that cannot leave.
Whenever i scroll down to the comment section in videos about the movie i always see people talking/complaining about the pie scene. I feel like it's one of the most important scenes in the movie... 'cause it basically makes you go through what she is going through in that moment... and also it brings you back to happy moments they sure had, that you never experienced though...
one of the most sad and yet beautiful movies i’ve ever seen. I had such a hard time to find it on the internet and it was so worth it, i spent days feeling this hole in my chest and everytime i hear its soundtrack these feelings come back... Cinematic masterpiece
Without a doubt one of my favourite films of all time. It’s soft and comforting yet there’s a nihilistic philosophy that we will all die and only our art will remain. The score, cinematography, performances and that one monologue craft a legitimate masterpiece.
This movie definitely has a VERY slow start. My friend who can’t stand slow movies could barely get through the beginning. Even I was wondering if the whole movie was just gonna be minutes and minutes of just watching people sleep or eating pie lol But the movie becomes utterly fascinating and worth sticking around. It helped that it was shot so beautifully. We both loved the film in the end.
Pay them no mind, and except your own, I understood every millisecond and it touched me way way down into the depths of my soul A Ghost Story that was a Love Story
Incredible film! Really like everything about it from the slow pace to the cinematography to the meaning. Anyone here who hasn’t seen it I HIGHLY recommend it! Great video btw too! Earned a like!
Having a loved one who passed away and watching this is so heartbreaking in every way. I think of my mom and wonder if she’s still around or was she able to let go? Is she still walking in our hallways unable to give us a sign? :(((
A real example of what kind of society we live in. This kind of content barely has 30 views in 5 minutes, and some nonsense has hundreds of thousands. I am very sad about that
Couldn't agree more. "The Beauty of" makes the best edits on RUclips and praises the most overlooked thing in today's movies and series: beautiful and meaningful cinematography. This edit almost brought me to tears and I haven't even seen the movie yet
god, i adore every single video you put out there. thank you so much for all the hard work you put in your content! i am curious - would you consider making a video on "the house that jack built" sometime in the future? i know it's a violent one and youtube has guidelines but it is visually pleasing and i love it very much :)
When you lose the love of your life ,it's just a nightmare, I lost my husband to cancer , every night now alone I drink and eat, just like the pie scene ,it true , in a year since my love died I damaged my liver ,got diabetes, destroyed what was left of me ,I just couldn't help it,
I read somewhere that he insisted on being the only person under that sheet, and he ended up cancelling a lot of other movie shoot appointments that he had planned, because of this decision.
You make me want to see this movie... Ps: we need the beauty of all Miyazaki's film, I also saw you've made the beauty of journey do you intend to do other video game 'cause I'd love to see an episode about death stranding but it's only if you want to do it, you have no obligation to do it
What are your thoughts on what was in the note? I personally think she wrote something about him, because she said she wrote things to remember. And he wants to be remembered when he’s gone so once he has that peace he can finally leave. But I would love to hear anything else people have thought of :)

this is the movie that makes me love A24.
non saprei che nome mettere And Moonlight and Goodtime
Basically any movie by A24
Same
A24 does not make movies, directors do.
@@Tylerlyndon well the studio distributes some really good shit and introduces us to a lot of great directors...
What a wonderful movie. I feel like it's a bit misunderstood and underrated. Greetings from Mexico.
This movie was an roller-coaster ride of emotions! That cake scene tho!

it's 4:3 not 1:1, 1:1 is the aspect ratio used in 'Mommy'
@@ronnrosh850 oh thank you, I get the two confused sometimes because I used1:1 as an alternative to 4:3 in my own work
Same. Just watched it today. The natural light on this film is on another level.
Fun Fact: the pie eating scene is longer than this video.
I literally fast forward during that like sorry nope 🙅🏻
i watched the whole thing lmao

@@mark1982ify Same, I think it was usefull for the story telling and character devlopement. It shows the true depression of the wife :(

Such a beautifully depressing film, one of the most overlooked and under-appreciated films in the last few years. Can't wait for Lowery's Green Knight

When he finally read her note, I felt that release. Such a cathartic moment. He was finally free.
What do you think was written on it?
I like to think she wrote "i'm never coming back", which would explain why he disappeared after reading it@@venenomecca858
I was immediately in tears and heartbroken with the second that the ghost reads the note and his sheet falls to the floor after his existence fades

This captures all these emotions when you watch the film perfectly! Lowrey Affleck Mara trio is like holy trinity.

Love this movie so much. It's really sad people can't take it because "apparently it's too slow"
Slow paced movies are not for everyone, I kinda get it even though I disagree with those people. This movie was phenomenal

Before i click, thought this was a horror movie, and turns out it was a depressing story about ghost. 😢
Him watching her pack up and leave was saddest scene
When he was communicating with the other ghost, and what the other one said just flat out broke my heart.
