The fact Leslie remembers meeting Conan more than Conan does, speaks to how much Leslie really cares about those around him. Such a great man that we all miss dearly.
Conan would probably remember it better if it was after 1996, he didn't know what he was doing in these early years.

Not just that, the man proves even you can break context for a good laugh. 👌🏽

So true, that subtle little "how d- *fart* how do you do?" is absolutely perfect lmao

Btw, what the hell does being funny have to do with being a grown man... seriously. Conan was a total uptight bastard who tried so hard to be funny "...machine of doom".... crickets had a facking orchestra. Agree with u bro, Leslie was an absolute hero.

The fabulous Leslie Nielsen. He brought me so many laughs in life. They don't make 'em like that any more.
Oh, they DO make them like that. But the sensitive, politicized, toxic environment of today makes them afraid to come out, because (accidentally) stepping over that line can create one hell of a shitstorm today.
It's a shame isn't it, and why can't we laugh at flatulence, it's a natural bodily function
I would say Will Ferrel is the spiritual successor. Great guy too.
First a dignified man and second a beautiful command of the language making a very funny dude freaking hilarious.
These days there are plenty of funny guys and still a few with dignity but most folks mutilate the language and like, you know like, like it’s sorta like… and “how it looks like” and “hence why…” and “I grinded it” I’m all for language evolution but right now it’s devolving so you might literally be right.
So strange to see Conan at this stage. He isn't truly confident in himself like he is today. It's a fascinating snap shot of his career.
It’s amazing how you’re able to gauge his confidence with knowledge of a time. It’s amazing that you can see inside of that man’s head and for lack of a better term know how it’s hanging
@@Bricks_shakur I don't think Jamie was trying to be offensive. Conan himself has said that he didn't know what he was doing on his show until 1995 or so.

Nice beaver.
I was lucky enough to meet him years ago at my work. He was at a prestigious country club and was getting into a limo and bent over to get in and ripped a huge one. The guys behind him started dying laughing and so did I. Before he got in the limo I got to talk to him for about 45 minutes while he waited for the limo. He was a genuinely great person and who you would want him to be.
That’s amazing. Wow.
I was an extra for the final episode of the tv show Due South in 1996. There were about fifty of us dressed up as Mounties on a train, and filming took several hours. I assure you, that fart machine made an appearance that day as well.
😄wierd; i was a homeless streetkid, panhandling @ Younge & Gerard St. Watching that Due South Tv Crew do their thing.
I remember Due South. The Odyssey was pretty good too, for Canadian Television
Plot twist: that machine do nothing. it's just an excuse for Leslie to fart for real.
I’ve been there...
I saw an interview with him were he farted the whole time and didn't show the machine. I thought he could fart at will.
@@CitizenKang What a skill.

And which you took into quotes is actually his gravestone epitaph.
I miss him too :(
One of? Who the heck was funnier then? I'm 38 now and the best days were when I could stay up and watch one of his films.
I agree with that, without this great man walking the earth it sure is a lesser world for it.
First hear his words at 0:48: "You can't let the audience know for one second that you try to be funny". Then watch his face at 1:01. This, my dear friends, is the reason why Leslie Nielsen will never be forgotten!
Precious moments
Absolutely!
Leslie handled the youngsters awkwardness like the professional he was.
His job is to go along with the bit. He's performing like literally anyone else on camera as a profession.
@@sorrymommy8190 Na... There was a naivety this early on. Back in the 90s every producers was trying to make everyone like Denis Leary or Dennis Miller. Too cool for school kind of shocking/dismissive types. Contrast that to 2000s Conan. or even a few years later. That negative/bitchy undertone like when he dismissed the Joke about insensitivity. Exactly, it's the way he synchronizes the fake fart sound with his breath, talk and abdomen that really sells it.
@@mportusable And the crossing over of the leg the first time. Brilliant.
It’s masterful the way Leslie Nielsen projected confidence and sincerity…while doing the most low brow bits 💨
😂😂😂
He really did take it everywhere I was on a plane with him and kept hearing it, and getting off I saw him with the flight attendants laughing 😄
He was the guest star on the last episode of the Golden Girls and brought it along to the set. The atmosphere was a bit emotional as Bea Arthur was leaving the series and Leslie wanted to lighten the mood and used it quite a bit during rehearsals much to the chagrin of Bea.
Leslie's gravestone reads "Let 'er rip". 😂😂😂
Wouldn't have expected anything less.
You've got to respect a man who leaves on a fart joke.
It really does say that on his gravestone. That's epic! 😂
Now I see why. Haha!
I miss Leslie, he was very formative to what makes me laugh. Physical humor played very seriously.
Stfu get offline and go pick some berries
Leslie Nielsen is a GREAT example of how you might physically age, but your mind is younger.
You know how funny this man is to still make you laugh at a fake fart when he's just showed you the fart machine? It's like a magician showing you how he did the trick but you're still amazed. Absolute legend.
Leslie was not only hilarious but very handsome too. Airplane is my all-time favorite comedy/movie... never gets old, especially with his one-liners.
I'm not sure it's my favorite, Mel Brooks made some pretty funny movies too. But, his movies are definitely near the top.
Airplane! is a perfect movie
He had a long career in Hollywood before finally realizing, at 54, that he was a comedy genius.
Nielson had always wanted to work in comedy. The irony is he was cast in Airplane because they didn’t want comedic actors. When it was suggested he was cast against type for that film, he replied he had previously been cast against type in all of his dramatic roles.
He's the narrator of the excellent documentary "Threshold: The Blue Angels Expereince".
Leslie is so good at playing his roles straight that it almost looks weird seeing him laugh and smile
I love how he replies "Don't be to sure." on the "You are a grown man!" comment. I never want to grow up and Leslie is another good example for me :)
"I'm working so hard to establish my credibility..."

Leslie Nielsen, Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Phil Hartman, Dan Aykroyd...seems like all the great comic talents from the 70's and 80's were Canadian.

This joke goes over my head lol. Please explain
In 1956 I went to the cinema to see Nielsen in Forbidden Planet and I still watch it today via bluray,I never thought that Leslie would go on to make such wonderful comedies.
Conan must cringe watching how poorly he handled Leslie. He had the king of slap stick doing fart jokes. Conan didn't even let the joke play out for 5 seconds.
He was schooled big time
Conan seemed like a stick in the mud here...poor showing.
Yes! I agree, fast forward 6 years and Conan would be more than ready for a master like Leslie Nielsen. They woulda had one hell of an interview. Conan was very timid and shy here. Looks like it’s his first week on the job.
late night was cutthroat, always peering over your shoulder to see if network execs won't replace you if it's not funny or classy enough
Yeah I thought Conan was awful here
Conan took the fart joke too seriously lol
For real. You can actually see that part of him loves it, like the handshake. It was like he was in attack mode the whole time.
@Lukasz Nazwa and? That's the whole point
I like Conan as a writer but he's so damn overrated as a talk show host
This man worked solid from 1955 up until his death...he NEVER TOOK A BREAK. In one year he had 46 tv roles on top of the movies he starred in. This man is the hardest working actor out of Hollywood!

Conan met his hero and he's doing fart jokes lol Probably a big learning experience. Never be too accomplished to pass up a tasteful fart joke.
Never mind the joke just give me the tasteful fart please.
Farts are seriously underrated. Conan could endure constant Norm jokes that took 9 min to get to the punch line but, here Conan could not stand a 2 second fart toy. This is probably why I never cared for Conan.

Enrico Pallazzo had such a great sense of humor.

Such an enjoyable and lighthearted interview. You can tell Leslie Nielsen is the star here and Conan is, for the lack of a better word, a "rising talent", and yet he's still friendly and remembers him from the SNL days - or at least made an effort to prepare for the show by looking up the host. Ive literally just watched half of this video... seen the fart thing...jumped on ebay, ordered one...and now im back to watch the rest. Brilliant! Thanks Leslie!!!
Leslie is one of those classic funny humans. Just naturally funny without trying too hard!
I think when he pointed out that you do overstep from time to time is pretty important. You can't be both quick witted and always saying the right thing. The two are mutually exclusive. There's going to be times when what pops out isn't the right thing at all or you misestimate what's the reaction is going to be.
If a man brought that on a date with me, first I would laugh so hard I cried, then I'd probably fall in love. 😂😍

Such an iconic voice. The TV series Police Squad that Leslie was in was hilarious too, made by the same people as Naked Gun I think, many years before.

He didn't know how to handle it and sadly chose the "joke scold the guest for being silly" route, but lacks the authority and comedy to pull it off. He even refuses to give it back when Leslie tries to save the bit. It's painful to watch but he's grown so much.
@@lamerica80 EXACTLY, I was cringing and I am sure that now that he is a mature comedian, he is probably totally mortified that he did this (basically as a kid) to an industry giant!

@@lanceturley7745 That's probably a lot of it. He also didn't have a grip on the audience the way that he does now. At that point he'd only been on the air for a few months and was still building an audience. Truly a great guy and brilliant actor.
I love that the idea of berating a subordinate was so foreign to Leslie that it wasn't funny at all to him. RIP good man
What’s funny is that here is Conan playfully admonishing Leslie for fart jokes when Conan himself would 20 years later annoy Jordan in Italy with a fart box. Conan must have learned from the master 😉
I was a limo driver in South Florida, one day he was my client and I heard the voice, but did not realize it at the time. His wife was so sweet. He didn't fart in my car however. He passed away several years later...they resided in Fort Lauderdale. He will be missed.
