The only times she doesn't sing is when she doesn't put the mic close and you can clearly spot those.

The verses don't appear to be backed only the chorus which means she can jump in at any time during the chorus. Sometimes artists need to alter each song according to the schedule. So if you're doing a lot of dancing and singing in one song then the next song to follow could allow for a break in singing and dancing this means having extra backing vocals or extra dancer's to take the load off the artist. It's tough for any artist to sing and dance for 2 hours straight without a break, so it's important to plan your song list properly not just in concerts but when you're out gigging in pubs, clubs or busking too. The downside to relying on backing track on a song, is that it can be played at the wrong time. So if in a band or playing solo and Rihanna's situation happens to you, remember to keep calm and remain professional at all times, use hand gestures to signal to band members or crew so they know when stop, replay music or when there's a problem with mic/sound etc. Other artists display composure better than Rihanna in this instance.

I know that in numbers where dancing is done that parts of the song are lip synced and others aren't, to help with the out of breath situation that can be a problem. She really didn't dance a lot here, but maybe the idea was she would dance more vigoriously and she toned it down. She seemed to be reserving her energy somewhat to me. If someone is all over dancing I'm not so sure it's 100 % live vocals. Usually it's not.
Rihanna worked hard for her success, she is from Barbados and came to the US and made a brilliant career, one of the best ever… I don’t see the lucky thing but her hard work, she is amazing and you can’t denny that.

okay you can hear her singing over the track when her microphone is there... this song has loads of vocal effects on it that you cannot recreate live so you have to have a backing track playing at the same time as band hence the problems in the beginning. Rihanna suffers from dodgy vocals a lot of the time but she does not mime! If her microphone is not at her lips she is not singing and its backing track! Singers that also dance while performing will invariably do this to make sure the audio is correct while not singing!
