This is a character he plays ‘The pub landlord’ who is like a cab driver.an opinion on everything. He starts with an over stated point but then works in history and jokes. It’s in part tongue in cheek and stereotypical and in part facts.

Love Al Murray! As I'm a Brit, I've been lucky enough to have seen him live several times. Comedy genius and he has a degree in Modern History from Oxford. But he does have one or two small errors in this skit.
UGANDA - Nope. He is doubtless thinking of Tanganyika which was German East Africa. Which we did indeed snaffle and add to the Empire at the end of WW One. Uganda had already been added to the Empire a number of years previously (in the late 1880's ) as the Protectorate of Uganda.
WHITE HOUSE - No, that's an urban myth. It was indeed burned after the British victory at Bladensburg, but it was already known as the White House prior to the War of 1812. Its somewhat porous stone construction had been whitewashed to protect against freeze/thaw erosion for nearly 20yrs prior to the burning.
BURKINA FASO - Nope. A French colony since the late 1880's. Since Al replied "used to be a German colony" I rather think he is confusing it with Togo which we grabbed after WW One (well technically Togo was split in two, we got half, the French got half).

UK declared war on Finland in WW2 at Stalin’s insistence, however there was no invasion etc…so technically we were not defeated.🤣

@@Gert-DK The Vikings were an ancient warrior tribe who were natives of Scandinavia from basically threes countries- Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and as I said previously, "at that time England was not a country as we know it today". Eric Bloodaxe was defeated in 954 ad, (when Danelaw ended). Around that time England became as we know it today. At that time half the country was Danelaw the other half was Anglo Saxon's.

@@stephenkorky1014 "at that time England was not a country as we know it today". Nor were any of the British colonies in Africa. The colonisation changed them, as The Viking changed England.
The first proof of Danmark as a country is actually during the Viking age. First time mentioned we can prove, is on a Rune stone. Come to Jelling, and you can read it for yourself.
Second, the name Danelaw, strongly indicates something, don't you think?
It is still our former Colony.

On my original comment, all I was saying that Vikings blood runs in me. I'm not telling you my surname, however, In Scottish Gaelic it translates to, Son of Thor's anvil.
