Looking for a new travel surf rod? Here are some tip on what to look for in a good saltwater surf travel rod.
1. Price
2. Rear grip length is long and comfortable for casting.
3. Look for wide guide diameter.
4. Choose a 9 or 10 foot rod.
5. 3 to 4 pieces is fine is short enough to carry on.
6. Light weight case or for carry on. The Okuma is a little big and bulky.

Looks like a nice rod! What would you say is the optimal lure weight that it can cast? Also, would a 11oz reel balance well this rod or be a bit too light?

I like to cast 1.5 oz. or 40 grams. It can cast lighter but you don't get the distance. My Shimano 5000 TP is about 11 oz. so you're good with the reel. It would probably take a 6000 size reel comfortably. Just a side note, after about 100 or so casts the ferrules slip a little but it's easily fixed. Thanks for the comment and watching! Tight lines!
