From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all-inside the mind.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
I just love how Anger gets angry about the "no broccoli, no dessert", but almost immediately calms down when the airplane is mentioned.

Fun fact: the character designs for the emotions came from different shapes like Joy is a star and Sadness is a teardrop. Ironically, Disgust was shaped like broccoli.
The ones for Joy and Sadness are more obvious when they go through Abstract Shaping.

Bardus equus The whole point of cartoons is to be silly and nonsensical, I'm not saying I think it's true I'm just saying that I find the scenario humorous and wanted to see if anyone else found it humorous.
So funny and so cute, how the emotions' awe at the "airplane" reflects Riley's toddler mentality.

Love Pixar. Is so easy to understand what is happening in this clip. And explain how emotions works is something very complicated, ask any professional. But not for Pixar.
Except the writer's aren't professional psychologists so that's why it`s easy to understand. We have more than 5 emotions.

The mother's "voices" are are women and the father's are all men...
but the daughter's are a mix of both male and female and her name is Riley which is a gender-fluid name... so, does that mean...?

On the other hand, given the fact that genetic code can also influence a person's mental behavior, it means that she has a mix of both her parents' natural mental behaviors. Some grandparents would say to their son/daughter "You know, you used to behave/respond/react just like that when you were young."
or maybe the kid will end up with a gender identity crisis. I dunno.

I was leaning more toward it having a transgender message.
CunningCondor I did notice that the dad's emotions have the same hairstyle and mustache as the dad and the mom's emotions have the same hairstyle and glasses as the mom. So maybe one day when Riley gets older, her emotions will have the same hairstyle as her as well, as in, maybe one day, Anger and Fear will turn into girls as Riley experiences womanhood since she's still just eleven and in mid-childhood.
There probably isn't a deep reason why Anger and Fear are guys, but maybe like Disney Princess movies these days, Pixar just wanted to add some boys to the main cast. Besides, Lewis Black and Bill Hader are perfect as Anger and Fear and I couldn't imagine the characters being voiced by anyone else.
CunningCondor I honestly doubt Pixar is going to do that as this IS after all technically supposed to be a childrens movie. It would be cool if that happened but I'm thinking that ***** , bmore bohgirl (don't know if I tagged that person right), and ***** 's explanations are more accurate if Pixar even had a reason.
***** What I'm hearing is that because Riley's dad I'd well... a dad, Fear and Anger come from him because naturally Dad's are always tense and fear becoming a dad.
Disgust, Joy and Sadness come from Riley's mom because Joy is like almost every woman's main emotion, Sadness is there because women (not to sound sexist) often get choked up easily over certain things, and Disgust comes from her mom because they get easily disgusted or annoyed by certain things
