- In the ongoing struggle to conquer the Soviet Union in WW2, Hitler aimed to deal a destructive blow to the Soviet forces at the battle of Kursk. In what would become the largest tank battle in history, the fighting was fierce and a major duel between Zhukov and Von Manstein would decide the future of the world.

I love documentaries about the Second World War that are around 30 years older than me, they’re much nicer than newer ones.
Used to watch this documentary series on tv when I was 11 years old. Never forgotten the music. Amazing footage and narrative.
Yeah, and War Stories is pretending they actually made it.
Yes...and they didn't BLUR OVER the footage either..like they did here!
As the saying goes then as now.”Dont start a fight you can’t finish “.
One of the best documentaries.. would never ever forget the music.. seriously.. History channel
The Battlefield series is probably the best WW2 series in how they break down and explain each battle. Also, there's a lot of nice real footage, some I hadn't seen before.
Soviet storm is hands down my favorite. I thoroughly enjoy this too tho,
Thanx. My next binge list❤
@@Psychonaut165 I haven't heard of Soviet storm. I'll check it out - thanks!
@@johnt.4947 Soviet Storm is one of the best. I think the best ever is still World At War... There's also one called Call Of Duty: The Complete Timeline which is also fantastic. There are some docs being made by a French production company called Apocalypse: WW2, WW1, etc... colorized footage. ... if you're looking for more...
When history television was actually about history
Unfortunately, Rokossovsky's forces were 700,000 for a narrow front while in the South with a wide front, Vatutin only had under 400,000/ That was a large miscalculation that could have allowed a huge breakthrough in the South.
you're forgetting Koniev'x reserve steppe front
Missed the part about the civilian defence of Kursk
It showed them for about 10 seconds towards the beginning of the video, helping dig trenches. That's about it. 😆
Your narrative on this is mesmerizing. We hope to see more content like this from you.
Its not his, this is an old documentary series, likely without any copy right being enforced any longer.
This is not their voice. It's from an old documentary called Vasile Luga Battlefield
This from a 1995 TV series called "Battle Field" You can watch all of them if you do a search .
The two Narrators were Tim Pigott-Smith and Jonathan Booth

I’m always amazed the German Army, outnumbered, still attacked.
It was an informative and super wonderful introduction of kursk operations by both enemy sides and how attacking and counterattacks were launched by both enemy sides ...this remarkable militarly documentary coverage shared by an excellent ( war stories) channel and history Hit( net work) page .allot, thanks for sharing ...it seems to my lack of German reservation had effective reason of concealed kursk operation by Germans
This is: Battlefield. Kursk by Cromwell Productions, c2001.
Nothing to do with "The Desperate Civilian Defence" lol.
If the Germans didn't have Panther tanks in battle of Kursk and attack earlier it is also very clear that they did not have a chance anyway.
The reason is clearly seen on the Prokhorovka battlefield. Panter tanks were superior when compared with T34. So without them German will be losing far more tanks than they lose in the Kursk battle.
Anti-tank guns were placed even before May only what the USSR didn't do in may is successfully dig 5 lines of defense. But without the Panthers all the chances were that the USSR wouldn't need them.
With enough reserve for Germany forces the battle was futile even before it started.
Why do I think so? Because Soviets can relatively easily and fast produce more tanks(in total) than before the Kursk. So raming with T34 in Germany tanks was a brilliant tactic idea. USSR was more than capable make numerous tanks Germans didn't.
Simple truth Germany failed because they weren't able to outproduce the USSR even if western allies stop helping the USSR.
Strategically to prolong the war Germans needed to stop attacking and retreat in an objective to shorten front lines and cut in half own supply routes and lines. What was worth defending? Romania which they dig oil to manage to stay in the game. And they needed to heavily fortify on their sides of the river rather than they declared some cities "As fortress".
The USSR acts smart and they encircle that point and go further. That was simply lost and forgotten soldiers which were seriously devastated to morale.
War was lost as soon as "blitzkrieg" was implemented in such a big country like the USSR. When they divided their army in 3 directions it was clear they will lose momentum at the end and start losing what they gained in the first year.
interesting analysis u got there, what would u think about soviet and allies fight in each other in 44 or 45s ?
@@kkkkjjjj8113 It depends from what point we look .
if operation unthinkable happenn, would they dominate Skye or fields? i know on the sea they were better @@Maks-xg2fd
@kkkkjjjj8113I believe that the western allies were capable of really ruling in the air. That is the answer to your question.
I believe the USSR would lose at the end because the war didn't touch the capabilities of the USA to produce weapons. But it would be an extremely bloody victory.
The USA and allies always had the opportunity to import "manpower" from India, the colonies, and South America. Operation Paperclip would bring back the Wehrmacht, and from the other side, China would possibly send troops to the USSR. India will possibly attack China, and Turkey will help the UK invade the USSR.
I believe that war would be much more devastating than World War 2.
It would be impossible to win for the Soviets.
But the world would be a much, much darker place to live in that scenario. There will be colonies, just like before World War II. Colored people will still be segregated in the USA. The standard of average workers globally would be significantly smaller than we know in our timeline in the 1970s or 1980s. Rivality wouldn't exist, and, at the end, Russia would remain far behind the USA in military strength.
It's better for all of us that the scenario never happened.

I love how the Russian people kicked mr model the facist into touch at Kursk .
.
Hitler's ending the battle prevented a second Stalingrad -Models' army would have been surrounded and trapped. The reality is that from August 1943, Germany would only be able to conduct a fighting retreat-defeat was never in doubt.

Kursk was a needless waste of men and material .
Was WWII worth all of that blood, or even a single drop of it?

Very good Narrayshon. I wonder if the ill fated Kursk sub was named after the battle . Also I wonder if jerry had King tiger tanks in the battle.
Goo Manstein !! :D
He lost 💀
I would never, ever be in a tank crew. I don’t know if it’s volunteer or your assigned.
I’d take my chance in the infantry, or maybe artillery.
Still boggles me that the Panther was a "medium" tank.
Does anyone know why either side didn't use starshells for night artillery?

Why do you keep calling the Soviets "russians"? They were NOT Russians, they were the Soviets. They were russians, ukranians, kazakh, uzbek, georgian, etc.

🍆
what were the numbers after the battle,200,000+ russian casualties and 50,000+ for germany?
Why
At the 48:31 mark of the video I find it odd for a US soldiers running footage despite the video is focusing on the battle of kursk.

While I loved seeing new war footage I hadn't seen before, about half of this episode was so dark you could barely make out what was what. There is no excuse for not using the technology available today to lighten up all of the dark footage.
This is from 1995 and Whomever is the channel admins profiting off someone else's production is shameless and apparently doesn't even have the gall to telegraph the fact this is a very much worn out rerun and has literally been copied with zero add ons or any other new features

The brilliant tactician Zhukov? The only thing he knew were human wave attacks.
"Everyone do the wave!"
I suppose you won lots of wars, Gen. Summers?
Ahh, the German generals' postwar cope memoirs. Easy to say in retrospect. Yup, the Soviets had no tanks, aircraft, artillery, mortars, minefields etc, all they did was throw light infantry at German machineguns. They performed no encirclements nor outmaneuvered German divisions, they only did human wave frontal assaults all the way to Berlin until the Germans ran out of ammunition. Such a caricatured view of history.
zhukov was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over rated!!!
Zhukov won several most decisive battles in human's history, this is the fact, supported by 99% of military historians.
