The first speed paint commentary of 2025! 🎉 I wanted to discuss AI art for some time, and I’m curious about your thoughts on it. My next Toribanashi episode will be released on Thursday, so stay tuned 🫶
I really like your take on this, I find it true too, art where you can see the artist's decisions behind it and thought process tends too be more visually appealing.
@RockyIllustrations thank you for your comment. Yeah, human art is more appealing and you can learn from it, even from mistakes. While AI art just annoys you by lack of the logic.
I really despise people that generate AI images and call themselves artists (and scoff at artists for putting effort into perfecting their craft.) It's like how AI, like knives, is just a tool but people will always use it for evil.
It's actually interesting to me that you can focus so much on analysing the creative process, for me I can def do it with writing but with consuming art, I don't do it at all, just appreciate the aesthetics, and at best try to think of how I'd replicate the technique I like. Or if it's a standalone piece then I do try to find the meaning in it. But I don't think much about the author or how it's done. If it's music or writing I let my thoughts wander more, but it has more of a narrative than art does. It's amazing how People Think Differently lol And honestly fr generative AI is straight up awful in quality. But I actually fear that the sloppy, incorrect human made content is something that AI will train on and eventually get right and then you won't even be able to tell you're talking to a bot. Ugh. Hopefully AI will be at least severely paywalled soon, if not regulated. Fight capitalist slop with capitalism Also big love for not covering reki's ugly ass bandana in the drawing 🫶
@@Bon-v2l thank you for such a long comment! Tbh even if/when AI models will be able to make more accurate anatomy and proportions I 100% believe it won’t be able to keep up with the ✨cultural code✨ If you look at artists from different countries, and all of them drawn in anime style, you’d figure out which country’s anime style it is. For instance, Korean artists tend to draw heads smaller and they love to reference international memes, Japanese artists have a specific line, like a calligraphy, Chinese artists more often have certain type of details, Ukrainian artist have certain facial features and colouring etc.,etc. I don’t believe machine would understand all those nuances. Also, ofc, I don’t lock in art analysis with every piece, but I do that a lot. Maybe that’s why I got that “generic romance” reference so quickly😆
@toribanashii damn you really do pay so much attention to art 😂 but kinda true, I'm sure AI could emulate any given style and nuance, but unless you tell it to do so it will always go for the one most common denominator. And I have no idea how you connect the art style analysis to understanding generic romance fr 😂 your thinking is on next level. Honestly all I could get from analysing Kowloon art is that sensei likes fetishising older men lol. The fact that she grew up on the Ribbon magazine, I definitely see in hindsight only (i guess it's kinda duh obviously kind of thing for a mangaka to be inspired heavily by art that was contemporary to them but so many mangakas don't seem to be channeling old styles unless on purpose so I wasn't thinking much of it). And the berserk, utena and ffvii inspirations I can barely feel at all, except maybe slightly in the way she draws faces.
I got that Kowloon reference not cause of artstyle, but cause I analyse anything art connected all the time lol. Of course, I don’t get all the things and sometimes I’m mistaken, but it’s also fun to have those guesses and to check them up.

Yeah, it’s literally evil. I don't want to have anything to do with people like that 😭
