Factorio Base Tour - Hornet's 5.2k SPM Multiple Main Bus Megabase from Reddit

  • This Factorio Base Tour showcases a magnificent 5.2k SPM (Science Per Minute) Mutliple Main Bus Megabase made by Hornet! All production and builds in the factory are belt based and there are 4 identical, but rotated "mini bases" that each produce 1.3k SPM and fit into a corner triangle. However, each triangular base section is an entire huge main bus! Raw materials such as Iron, Copper, Oil etc are delivered via trains and are then turned into all 7 types of science using a large main bus. Really quite unique in my opinion.
    The factory utilizes 2-8 single length single headed trains for the raw material transportation. Due to the design of the whole base, there are 4 main rails that come in from each direction and pass through a big lane junction. Watching the trains move through the junction is so satisfying and mesmerizing!
    The base uses a combination of Solar and Nuclear power to supply the whopping 30GW of needed power when the factory is going full tilt. There are also over 200 trains on the map.
    Overall a very impressive and extremely satisfying base, both visually and with its huge and efficient production capabilities. Make sure to watch through for all the little details!

    Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories.
    You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. Use your imagination to design your factory, combine simple elements into ingenious structures, apply management skills to keep it working and finally protect it from the creatures who don't really like you.
    Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of the Scenario pack, available as free DLC. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.

      That's correct and when I load up this map I'm gonna immediately research mining productivity a bit higher since the ore patches aren't 1.5 G (billion) like most megas. But there's still *plenty* of resources on this map, nonetheless.

    I've been watching some of your other base reviews and so far I love this one the most!
    It has the theory that I have been concluding to be really efficient:
    - Reduce train traffic by making science locally from raw materials.
    - The best part is no part.

    35:00 that signal stopping that water train needs to be a chain signal not regular signal, so if the train cant get into its assigned waiting bay it doesnt block the entire intersection waiting on machine time... if the machines are even running

  • @S_Black

    The last cable machine for red circuits isn't beaconed because you only need 1.43 assemblers for a blue belt of cables if all had 8 beacons. Though making a reliably compressed blue belt of cables is very tricky. It's better using all beacons because inserters won't always find space on the belt and such things

    • @astralfields
      @astralfields 3 года назад +5

      If you have a multiple stack inserters putting stuff on a belt, set them all to stack size 8. This way they fill belts much more evenly.

      It is a magnificent base indeed!
      As for biters, if there is no artillery, then my guess would be with nukes. However, some folks (and this may be the case here) just turn biters off completely when they generate the map, because they don't want to deal with trying to claim that much territory.

    research time with that setup of lab makes it 1381.8 times faster than only using one lab! (not that any one would be that crazy!) i never make mega bases to i stick with 32 labs fed by chests and using only speed modules. i never thought about putting production modules in considering i only focused on speed. at least he feeds them with chests directly! (putting inserters between labs makes them REALLY SLOW since the lab potions spend more time in the air than the Labs.)

    • @ShannaeDarkehart
      @ShannaeDarkehart 3 года назад +1

      This base does have a nuclear reactor, though? Xterminator talked about it like ten to fifteen minutes into the video. Most megabases will have a large reactor setup or a series of smaller ones simply because they need so much power, and nuclear is the most power per tile. At the same time, you'll also see enormous fields of solar panels, as you do here because while the energy density is super low the panels themselves cost almost no game processing time no matter how large the solar field gets (the game literally just gets the time of day and multiplies by the number of panels attached to the grid, whereas each building of the other systems has to be fully processed for fuel consumption etc using a lot more clock cycles).

    • @magnapeccatrix
      @magnapeccatrix 3 года назад +1

      @@ShannaeDarkehart @Shannae Darkehart thank you for clarication. On the last part did you mention that using solar power is less complicated and helps with game performance on large bases? I think this would be the main reason in this regard.

    • @chainingsolid

      Main reason for the lack of nuclear power is, solar + accumulators uses less and less CPU compute power per MW as the MW grows. And every other power source in the game uses more and more as you scale.
