A huge debt of gratitude indeed. The sacrifices of the families who were bereaved when pilots did not return, the sacrifices made in the households to raise that enormous sum of money [£1.1 Million in today's world] and the sheer determination when this tiny group of islands stood alone is unimaginable in this relatively free world. I remember that when I was young and dinosaurs still walked the earth that each week my sixpenny savings stamp was bought from my teacher and adhered to the National Savings Book which could [if not encashed], be converted to a National Savings Certificate. This was run by the Post Office and every so often somebody addressed the school assembly and spoke of the National Savings instituted in the 1860's and which had in the World Wars helped [with Government War Bonds] to fight the oppressors of the free world. I was told in my youth of the many cardboard replicas of spitfires which were positioned at artificial aerodromes to fool the enemy into thinking they had destroyed vital resources. Money had to be found to build all this too. All this after a crippling Depression in the 1930's which left families with so very little, yet they came together to build a fund such as this. The little they had was further depleted by the loss of the brave men and women who did not return from the theatre of war. It saddens me that in the 21st Century the government is pretending that there are few resources for extensive support and mental health treatment [which will be a huge need legacy from CV-19] and it also saddens me that so many of the population cannot bother to protect their peers and their older generations by simply wearing a mask which costs less than a glass of milk. The altruism of the people of the Spitfire period was outstanding.
Thanks Jane, thankyou for taking us along today to view the spitfire plane ✈ it's very good replica isn't it, another one is being installed at Gynn Square for the illuminations.
Help us raise funds for our "back to flight" project and related restoration project taking place at the Spitfire Museum at Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport. You can donate via a UK mobile telephone by TEXTING the word SPITFIRE to number 70331. If you wish to donate another amount you can do so from your PC or Tablet by visiting the following link: platform.nationalfundingscheme.org/organisations/donate/amount&charity=SPITFIRE The Spitfire Memorial at Fairhaven Lake is still owned and maintained by the Lytham Spitfire Display Team and relies wholly on Public donations. The return to flight project will hopefully see the return of a WW2 Warbird to Hangar 42 Blackpool Airport and will play a major role in keeping the Memory of the RAF Ground and Aircrew who served with the Royal Air Force during the War years. Your support is appreciated.

It was Churchill who said, "never in the field of human conflict, has so much been owed by so many, to so few".
And very true words spoken too.
We will fight them in hills. We will fight them in on the Beaches and the streets and whatever the cost maybe this was their finest hour
We have to gain the victory that is our task
Looks great its good for the town to you and your partner get around a lot you both make a good team
Thanks 👍
i went to see it the other day, it is very impressive
