    Thank you for the tour, fresh build with lessons learned is great to see. I am also a former submariner, building out our own 1.5 MW mint, referenced your earlier videos to guide the design. I have a good handle on the equipment, air flows and power matrices, seams the networking side is the most likely area to encounter stumbling blocks at scale, recently got a Cisco CCIE consultant involved. Please comment about the LAN matrix, router and switch hardware you chose for a 900 miner buildout, spares distribution / access levels, and IP addressing.

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад

      For the larger build we are also hosting some miners from other people, which I like to lock down in their own subnet/VLAN. Firewall is a Cisco Meraki MX64, main switch is a Meraki MS120-24, access switches are Cisco SF250-48 48-Port 10/100 Smart Switch. I have 32 VLAN's set up, put 3-4 switches per VLAN, segment network into /24's, and use Meraki as DHCP server. The Meraki firewall is set up to failover to backup internet, and also for remote access VLAN. Using 12 static IP addresses from provider and can port forward to management machines, which are usually dedicated PC running Awesomeminer

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад

      I use the meraki firewall for port forwarding, as a layer 3 device, and for creating firewall rules to prevent hosted VLANs from access to any other VLAN/subnets

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад

      have a spare firewall and switch at the place. Definitely useful to get a networking consultant involved, but don't let them recommend anything too expensive. Low end 10/100 switches is all your need, and the GUI interface on the SF-250 is really good

      @@BlockOperations I highly recommend checking out Fortinet Fortigates. Basically, we are using the same L3 design as your mentioned above, but much better security and performance vs meraki.

    Love the facility. It's a nerd's dream. Out of curiosity, do you expect to turn a profit with the current setup? I can't imagine that those miners will earn enough throughout their economic life to cover the cost of construction. I'm imagining that you view this initial hardware run as an investment in the facility and a means to get that sunk cost paid for in order to profit with future equipment. I just wanted to hear your take on it because I've been looking into building a crypto farm and keep coming back to the realization that your first run is pretty much just to recuperate costs and position you to profit in the future. Thanks for the video and any feedback!
    PS. Cable management my dude! With all that wood, you can just use the leftover copper from the wiring as staples!

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад

      It is a longer term investment, for sure. But if the crypto cycle goes through another rise as I expect it to, then with good management, we could recoup the costs of the facility within a few years.

    Sorry for all the questions. You were one of the reasons I got started. Your blog had details others lacked. I'm close to finishing a buildout now, has taken more than a year. When you say fireproof, do you mean to coated wood with intumescent paint or clear coat? Which intumescent mix did you use?

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад

      I just buy the wood already fireproofed - that's what the county fire inspector required.
      No problem on the questions - best of luck with your buildout!

    Rolf, I have a technical question for you. your fans pull in 160,000 cfm. I count 72 of the washable filters... I assume they are the 20 inch by 25 inch filters I see on graingers website... since all these filters let in less air than the fans are pulling, that makes negative pressure right? does that have any adverse affect on the fans? ive heard some fans have a function that will turn themselves off it doesn't have enough air to pull on, thank ya kindly!

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад +1

      The fans have a graph that shows actual airflow based on differential pressure. These industrial fans are designed to operate at high differential pressure. The filters are operating at their upper limit of air velocity throughput.

    The cold aisle isn’t airtight but you don’t have reverse airflow. Is exhaust slightly higher cfm?

    • @BlockOperations
      @BlockOperations  5 лет назад

      yes due to intake filters exhaust ends up being higher CFM. We actually got reverse airflow on some areas so we placed HVAC paneling on open spaces

  • @michaelmadison883
    @michaelmadison883 5 лет назад +1

    Where did you get your filters from. I'm getting a little annoyed about not being able to find large enough washable airfilters. I'm debating just building my own -- I mean, it's just several layers of mesh/expanded-metal right?

      You are correct, it is 12 amps per bank. There is some waste there. There are lots of different ways to do the electrical. 480VAC to 415 VAC to 3 phase to the PDU at 80 amps is also an option. Depends on the size of the buildout you are doing, time to market and buying abilities.
      There are lots of reasons to make different choices on the electrical side of things. Difference of style is not wrong, it is just different.

Ohh wait it’s double the price... and PDUs are mad cheep too they only cost what $300 each, and when u say “code compliant “ u do realize it’s only a receptacle thats mounted to the structure permanently not extensions etc... you be better off running 2 20 amp 12/2 lines and a $11 dual receptacle and if u really like that PDU style plug then u can buy an “extension cord”
