I'm a lefty and for the life of me, I seem too ALWAYS do this backwards!!! I wrote down the simple steps you gave and now I got it!! Thank you so much!
Thanks again for a good, no-frills explanation. One point to note: others say to score the paper with an X in the middle of the appliqué, so that you are peeling it away on a stable, fully-woven section of fabric, rather than flicking at the raw edge which may fray or distort. But kudos for "read the instructions" for your choice of fusible web! Steam/no steam AND temperature/length of time required to fuse are all important to get a good results - too many people overheat the glue and it just evaporates away!
Thank you so much for such a clear and simple instruction. I made two pillowcases with hearts on them for my grandkids and I didn’t know how to do it! I just cut them out of fabric and pinned them to a pillow case and used an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric tight then I sewed around the edges. I guess I should have asked somebody first!! I hope they last through the washing’s!!!🤣😂🤣😂. You got me all excited now! I’m going in my craft room to find some fusible paper! I’ve just been spraying the hearts with spray starch then ironing them flat onto the pillowcases then pinning in place so that they would be nice and stiff to sew on!!! Thanks! (I’m only 75; you would think I’d know)!!❤️🌸❣️💗💞🌷🌹
Thank you so much for this. I always thought applique work is for pros and didn't think of even attempting to do it. How awesomely simple you've shown it to be! So easy to grasp your instructions. All those leftover scraps can now get a second wind and be of use.
I've learned so much from you in less than 30 minutes tonight!! What I like about your tutorials is that you get right to the point without a lot of chitter chatter. Then when I was reading the comments, I also learned how to clean the gunk off of my iron (had an accident with the Wonder Under). BTW, I use the same little iron next to my sewing machine - it's GREAT. Thanks again for all you do for us!
I did it. I did it o did it. It’s not perfect but I did it to the best of my ability for never seen anything before other then my sample an hr ago The space between the one and cupcake wrapper will have fabric flowers that are arriving on Friday. Thank you so much for this video on how to make my own applicaque here’s pics of mine
This was wonderfully helpful, thank you!!! :) I'm learning to quilt by RUclips, and my new project has applique in it. The written instructions for the project weren't making sense, but this is absolutely crystal clear. Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you for this very helpful video! I don't know anything about applique, but I like the idea of doing this on a onesie to go with some pants I'm making for my granddaughter. Thanks again!
hmmm.. I've always used the paper backed stuff but I suppose if you trim it just right and hold everything in place it will do the same thing when you hit it with the iron. Give it a try!
Great video! Thank you for the step by step directions. I was very intimidated to try this but after watching I know I can do it! Thanks!! I plan to watch your other videos too!!
This is so cool!!!!! Now I can decorate more the little dresses I have made for my daughter's teddy bear. Thank you so much it has been very helpful. :D
I have been using the fusible paper so wrong! I stopped using it because it destroyed my iron and board. Thanks for sharing, I will be trying this again!
@vickila82 Thanks. What do you mean the glue stained the "front" of the fabric. Do you mean around the edges or that the glue was exposed to the iron and got burnt on the fabric? You have to be careful to only press on the release paper and not to allow the iron to touch the adhesive itself. I suggest inspecting your fusible before using it. If you buy more fusible than you need and keep it flat, the adhesive will peel off the paper too easily and can lead to a mess.
Excellent job! I thought you were extremely clear and concise. I have your video saved since I am new to this and now I'm ready to try it out! Thank you!
Awesome video! I learned in 5 minutes that I've been doing it all wrong and making WAY too much work for myself. Your technique is so simple and will make my life so much easier. Thank you!!
Oh yay! You're my favorite youtube sewing teacher and I just did a blind youtube search for "how to machine applique" and yours was one of the first I saw! Needless to say, yours went into more detail than I've heard/seen elsewhere - which I totally need. Loving the Crafty Gemini! ;) I do have a q though: any tips for appliqueing a thick red velvet heart (seems to have an almost soft denim backing...found in bin of old fabrics inherited) - onto a larger soft denim heart (to become a pillow)?
@madmadi1210 I have heard of reversible applique but have never tried it. I think if you used it for that purpose you would only apply it to the part of the fabric that would be hidden behind the other fabric. You definitely don't want it on the exposed part because it will give the fabric a sticky/glossy looking finish. I would not put it on the whole piece of fabric- just the part that isn't showing. Try it out on a scrap and see how it works for you. Have fun!
hi im beginner and want to learn eveything u do smile.. ok where and what kind of iron and how much????? i want to learn applique and quilts and everything smile.. also im deaf and watch videos but cant hear u saying and i wish have closed captions all ur videos.. i love your videos and wow u have talents..
Thanks! I was wondering how to appliqué the solar system onto a bedspread for my daughter. This will be perfect - thank you so much for a great tutorial!
i like your simple explanations! GREAT..thank you! I browsed through other sights, but yours came up, and I knew from past experience that I enjoyed past activities you have done!
@melanielink87 No problem! You should.. it's so easy! p.s.- to clean your iron use a Magic Eraser soaked in water, lay it over a folded up towel. Turn your iron on high heat and swipe it across the wet magic eraser until all the burnt adhesive is gone. That's how I clean my irons.
OMG this is sooo cool! love it, Vanessa can I do this same process with a family photo printed on fabric? can I print some letters and numbers instead of drawing them myself and continue with the process?
Hi, i just subscribed to your youtube videos, and I wanna say you are really a good teacher. Now I noticed your little iron. I love it. I have a Rowenta small iron, but its a little awkward to use. As the handle is long and has a small attached cord. I noticed in this video that yours is cordless? May I please get the name of your Iron and where you got it from.? Thank you. Rosy C.
thank you for this tutorial. You are very clear and precise. I used wonder under by Pellon, got a tube of it at Wal Mart. Mine said use a damp cloth but I decided to follow your instrctions and it worked great. Oh, by the by, I like your iron. Where did you get it?
Opps! Please tell me how to get the fusible web out of the background. I fused the web to the wrong place. I'm guessing someone else would like this info. You are the rock star!
Thanks. Yea, you can... just make sure the picture you are printing will be permanent. Try it out on scrap fabric first to make sure it will work. Check out my video on "Making your own fabric labels for free" to see in detail what I mean.
The perfect tutorial: enough information, but not overly chatty! To the point but with enough detail. Thank you so much!
FINALLY! An applique video that follows the steps and explains the process perfectly! Thank you!
