Not only is the starter shiny, but it's a female. That is even exponentially rarer because starters only have a 12% chance for female to begin with. Ngl kinda jealous of your Piplup as it's my favorite and I'd reset tons of times for a female, but never for a shiny lol

Do a run with in order to progress to each different route you have to encounter or catch a shiny in that specific route like route 1, able to move to route 2, etc. it’ll take long but would be something pretty challenging.
When you shiny hunted for houndor you could’ve gone a bit down to the right in the other bush to potentially get houndoom. It also spawns pretty often.

Atk, it’s pretty much only useful in doubles where it can stop Water moves from hitting Infernape for example

I found a shiny Geodude at the coal mine, I just started playing the game in an emulator. I was going to find the Gym Leader for the first gym badge and unexpectedly encountered a shiny geodude
I saw this after buying a DS lite, saw you had 21k attempts (on DS lite it’s around 1 min per reset on starter) I thought it would’ve took weeks but I hit it on 258 tries
I've had a few rough hunts myself, but no higher than about 15,000. At 21,000 that's about a 92% chance to find the shiny, so it's not THAT rare for hunts to take significantly longer. All part of the game I suppose! Good luck with all of your shiny hunting endeavours 😁

But if you had 21,000 people who each have 1 encounter for 21,000 total encounters, then statistically there's a 92% chance that one of them will find the shiny. How long these encounters take depends on which Pokémon you're hunting.
This reminds me of the one time I was playing diamond and ran into a shiny ponyta and it took me 3 days to figure out it was shiny because the top screen was almost completely white cuz it was broken 😂
