  • When you are a professor at a pre-eminent university, you may not expect to question the value of a traditional college education. Abel Sanchez looks at education’s digital transformation, MOOCs, flipped classrooms, and other alternatives to query what the future holds for secondary and post-secondary education. Using his MIT classroom, Abel has tested and developed novel educational methods that allow his students to learn more, retain more, and enjoy the experience. Abel, an MIT Professor, is the Executive Director of MIT's Geospatial Data Center, architect of "The Internet of Things" global network, and architect of data analytics platforms for many Fortune 500 companies. In cybersecurity, Abel architected systems for the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity agency. Abel has a passion for education working globally with corporations such as Microsoft and the Accenture Technology Academy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

People that drop out are people that may or may not already have a skill. These days skills can be learned from the internet but not all being entirely correct. College is a nice opportunity for those who have nothing else. Experience and knowledge are things companies want but it’s them willing to take a chance on you. Not every job is the best but somebody has to do it, either that being a surgeon or Taco Bell worker.

Going to college is like going to a war zone, and you need to survive it (stress, depression) in order to win (reach your goal).
And if you could not hold yourself to pass through the stress and depression... then you were too weak as a soldier and you died in the war zone, which you were not strong enough to survive that.

Some courses don't worth your effort like arts, liberal arts, design, English and sociology.
I would understand someone going there for nursing, lawyer or doctor.
A trade school is fine, but nobody gives a importance about it.

Depends, I would never spend my nights for arts or sociology, but definitely for medicine or nursing.
