Excellent video 👍 The Ffestiniog Railway passes through some wonderful scenery If I'm thinking what you were thinking at Minffordd, you can actually do the whole round trip on one ticket, the Ffestiniog Round Robin (including a one way journey over the Ffestiniog Railway) Alternatively, there is potential to race Jen from Minffordd to Porthmadog
What a coincidence! Rode on that railway yesterday, between porthmadog and caernarfon. An amazing experience, helped by the great weather. Even the summit of mt Snowden was visible on the way back.
I went on this on Tuesday! We came into Blaenau Ffestiniog on Trafnidiaeth Cymru, and got the Ffestiniog Railway to Porthmadog and back. We had a 6 minute interchange at Blaenau Ffestiniog, but the TrC train was 10 minutes late, and the guard had to contact the railway to make them hold the train, with the sort of phone reception you get in a valley in Snowdonia
Wow, Porthmadog station looks a bit neglected, especially around the tracks, but they have ETCS L2 there for some reason. Looks so odd. The story of the lake (Llyn Ystradau) is a bit more interesting than that: The company who built the power plant originally just went like "disused tiny railway, nobody cares, just flood it" but the heritage society that already was a thing at the time decided to fight this in court. And surprise, the railway won and the company behind the power plant had to pay for some of the new route.
Gosh, the Brittania Bridge level crossing. I think it's so far one of my favourites level crossings in all of Britain, or at least in entire Wales. Also loving that Wales does have a ridiculous number of these meter/narrow gauge heritage railways. Also, yes I do think what you think
Great video! I visited UK and Wales in 2019 from overseas and went on both Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, both spectacular rail journeys! You’ve summed up the FR journey well. Now to do a Pointless Journey from Crewe to Chester via Blaenau Ffestiniog 😜
I think I went on this railway when I was younger. Can't remember that much but parts of this video definitely feel familiar. Thanks for bringing back memories. :)
I was once on this railway, and at (I think) Minffordd the train stopped for about half an hour. I can't exactly remember how long but apparently somebody accidentally pulled the emergency stop chord or whatever, and the train wouldnt move so they had to reset it
I'd highly recommend the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Grosmont - Pickering you get beautiful views on both heritage and National Rail Services sure it's £45 for non-members but the views are breath taking and you can get off at all stations to catch different services
I'd suggested in the comments in a previous video for you to do a pointless journey from Blaenau Ffestioniog, and doing it from Minffordd would be exactly the same - so I am getting VERY excited hearing what you say at the end of the video!
I use to leave just down in Aberystwyth and always meant to go up there (Vale of Rheidol railway is also cool, had some trams books I can't find anywhere else lol). Cymru is always beautiful, shame it so far from my side of The North nowdays. Hope you can make it up to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
When were you there? I went on the Welsh Highland Railway last Saturday, and was at Porthmadog in the afternoon taking photos. You may have seen me in my unmistakable hat! :P
Everyone's thinking that it's time for another pointless journey 😂 Though if you tried to use the Conwy Valley Line from Blaenau Ffestiniog it might take all day! Shame there's not another station on the Welsh Highland with a National Rail connection as two heritage railways would be very cool (if also very expensive!)
Blaenau Ffestiniog to Blaenau Ffestiniog would also take a while, even if you use the Welsh Highland as a major shortcut, I'm guessing it'd still take ages 🤣
@@chrisoddy8744 the Welsh Highland wouldn’t be a shortcut at all if you go for strictly train connections! In fact it would be exactly the same route just starting from a different point
Ffestiniog Railway is a lovely heritage line, so Is the Welsh Highland Railway but both heritage railways have some stunning views, great video
I love narrow gauge trains, they look so cute. Also Snowdonia and North Wales looks so beautiful
Nat is like a mini Vicky Pipe 😊🥰
😮
and Nick is like a young Geoff Marshall
Hopefully they stay together!
Very enjoyable video Nick, something else added to my must do list.
Thanks for sharing.
A glorious heritage line, which is very accessible by national rail. Thanks for a great video yet again!
These double Fairlie's make this journey unique. Just absolutely wicked on this heritage railway
Excellent video 👍

Lovely railway station in Wales with incredible backdrops and beautiful scenery of mountains and hills. Very nice Nick. 👍☺️
Brilliant video of yours and Nat's visit to the Ffestiniog railway Nick, I've heard loads about that line and I'd love to travel on it sometime.

This is such a good video, Nick! I love this railway and I hope more videos will be shown of it! Old railways give nostalgia. :)

the Flestininog railway looks like an amazing railway to ride im loving the scenery and Blaenau Flesstimiog looks amazing brilliant vlog

Absolutely gorgeous line this! Went on it many years ago
Looks like you had fun guys.
I love that British accent. And the nerdy content. Awesome. Please keep going.
Great video and a wonderful line to travel on. Wonder if they still have the water trough with the rubber ducks. Remember seeing them a few years ago.

Great video, not only a heritage railway but a narrow gauge railway - perhaps two further themes to explore here?
I'd highly recommend the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Grosmont - Pickering you get beautiful views on both heritage and National Rail Services sure it's £45 for non-members but the views are breath taking and you can get off at all stations to catch different services
Brilliant video as always

Oh look, it's Nick and his acquaintance on a beautiful railway line. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Last time I was in Porthmadog, there was a gelato shop halfway along the high street on the left hand side coming from the National Rail \m/
I'm taking the Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon in a couple of weeks, looking forward to it
What a romantic thing to do - love it!
Thanks Nick for another lovely video.

Been on that line. The large white building in shot as you panned round is the queens hotel where i stayed
I live in Caernarfon mate. Love your videos
OH MY GOD YEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
What a beautiful train
When were you there? I went on the Welsh Highland Railway last Saturday, and was at Porthmadog in the afternoon taking photos. You may have seen me in my unmistakable hat! :P
Nick fantastic video but why did you leave out the locomotives on the trains again?
Companion? What is this, Doctor Who?
Actually, I think Nick would make a fantastic Doctor on Doctor Who....
2+1 seating :-) Better than 2+3 seating! Nice scenery too.
Great video, as always.
If they were on DAFYDD LLOYD GEORGE I will be happy because I got a little cab ride on it at B Ffestiniog to the water tower for FREE £0 in July 2022
I wonder if Wilbert Awdry made a version this railway in one of the books of the _Railway Series._
Nick you should do the North Yorkshire moor railway
I've been to Porthmadog many times
North wales finally!!

Minffordd FfR to Minffordd NR would be one hell of a pointless journey. It would take you all day!
225 miles by my calculation!
Blaenau Ffestiniog to Blaenau Ffestiniog would also take a while, even if you use the Welsh Highland as a major shortcut, I'm guessing it'd still take ages 🤣

Omg I been here!!!!
I have an idea for a pointless journey! Rochdale Northern To Rochdale Metrolink!
Wow how did you not do a pointless journey in this episode
It will take a very long time for you to do the high level, to low level, if you are only taking the trains.
Claim your before an hour ticket
also, you should go on the the Lynton and Barnstaple railway.
I went to Porthmadog yesterday
I am not Welsh
Natts North America it appears
No opportunity for a pointless journey at the beginning? 😢
it'd be a pretty extreme pointless journey whether from Porthmadog or Minffordd
Pointless journey??
your opinion
@@voidjavelin23it's a series he does where he goes round in a circle to the same place called pointless journeys .
🤡
Nice presentation, but in future, less of you, more of the views
