I contacted spalding to get to know about the real game ball. They said the ones with Cxx are the old balls which are rarely used by now. The newest version they really use in games is the Uxx version with the engraved logos and lettering. I got my own ball now and I am starting to brake it in now :) Great videos!
I have a broken in official ball, shinny type as well, and you're absolutely right, NO ONE LIKES TO PLAY WITH IT..they rather all pick up my wilson evolution lol. But this is what the pros use. I've noticed and even seen Kobe illustrate how he moistens/wets his hands/fingers before a free throw shot to get better grip. In addition, the pros are also constantly using things like Mueller Stickum to get a better grip.
They're all official game balls. The different letters are when the balls were made. It has nothing to do with autograph balls or game balls. They feel different, because they changed the leather. I have one with the letter UAU
theyre not so slick with the combo of sweaty hands and broken in leather. often times (in the 2012 finals for example) players WILL complain just like we do about the ball being too slick and ask for a more broken in game ball. do you ever notice players come out in warm up suits and wear like 3 or 4 shirts? it not only makes the blood flow better but makes you sweat and when you have moisture in your hands these basketballs are incredible.
Was a ball boy for the bulls for 4 years. They only use U series for game used. You have it turned around. That PISTONS ball that you think is game used is for memorabilia purposes only such as autographs etc.
Love the videos man keep it up youre like the only guy that reviews basketballs........well that is i have. The official nba ball current and was wondering if i should get a past ball from the 80's thanks and keep up the good work
Speaking of leather ball care may want to consider using some leather conditioner, like saddle butter or beesbutter, especially on that Pistons game used ball. It will have a great impact on the leather and will also have an impact on your water test.
ya know, i get tired of everyone saying, "this isn't the REAL ball they use in the nba". nba.com in the auction area sell a few shiny ones with the "C" code that are game used. i personally like the "U" code balls better of the new ones. i have a game used team ball now too and it's the same exact ball u get at amazon or on the nba website.
Sweat makes these basketballs stick to your hand. They are only slick when dry. NBA players sweat a lot. Composite leather balls like the nike elite(college ball) and wilson evolution slip out of your hand when wet.
thats pretty much how synthetics go. that CAN happen to a leather ball (cuz the leather is on top of the rubber/butyl bladder...so the panels can come off but its very normal with overused synthetic basketballs. usually on the leather ones, you can get cuts & scrapes in the leather with use...happens to pretty much all of mine...
Where's the best place to buy a genuine leather NBA basketball? How long to really break it in? Months? Year? When I was a kid I remember the real leather basketballs that were heavy, but really tacky and sweat wasn't a problem. The new balls are tacky, but when sweat makes them slippery.
hey vigne. i have a few synthetic leather balls that break apart instead of break in when i use them. for example i had this ball where the panel tore off and the stitching was exposed that made the ball eggy. now i have another nike basketball with the panels tearing off and it is fairly new. is there a strategy to this or is it just my dumb luck?
well, in order for us to get our hands on them, the game used balls almost have to be outdated (or at least older). but ya, that was for comparison purposes mainly.
My opinion, game used balls can be purchased thru Amazon, Walmart, Dicks or Spalding. If your lucky to get the 3 letter code beginning with letter U, you will notice the grip and Spalding logos on ball are different, more rubbery tire like texture nd less of a shiny coated slippery black paint (for aesthetics?) which in some cases often tends to peel off grips. Also the grips on U series are embedded a little deeper for add control. I know this because how many authentic balls I’ve boughten over years starting with letters besides U, such as X.(non game used) The inflate valve is also embedded/secured deeper under the horween leather more neatly, making it more flush on surface; Maybe so not to interfere with bounce/handling, this way the rubber valve never makes contact with hands or bounce while in play. The review from the Bull’s ball boy in the comment above I think could attest to this theory. Personally, I think all these balls are all perfect, as TB 🐐 would say. U series grips don’t line up with the leather along corners as fine as the X series do because it’s imbedded deeper in ball leaving small gaps but it controls much better.
@@Gius_13 Hey I know this video's pretty dated, but I got another Spalding Official NBA Ball on sale semi-recently and unfortunately, its an 'X' Series. I have two other Official balls I got off offerup for cheap and luckily both are 'C's, one of which is broken in nicely, and the other I'm currently practicing with and I'd say is a little more than halfway broken in. In your opinion, is the 'X' ball worth putting the grind in to break it down, or do you think I should stick with the two 'C' balls I landed and sell the 'X'? I got the X one a few months ago, sort of for sale from Dicks Sporting Goods because I signed up for something and got like 30% off. Thought I'd beaten the system since I paid about 100 including tax for a brand new one, but I should have known leaving a retailer with a good feeling is typically is an eventual indication that they're hittin me with the long con.
I bought my game ball in ‘09 if I remember correctly.. and looking at the variation in details around the air-hole, I was questioning its authenticity However after seeing the Pistons game ball, I have every ounce of proof I need to know mine is legit. If you notice on your UGO ball, it says GENUINE LEATHER... and on the Pistons ball it says MOISTEN NEEDLE. My ball is identical to the Pistons ball minus the laser engraving.. and the code is CBN Thanks a lot for putting so much info out there dude! Tougher to find than I’d like..
um try ebay for a cheaper one or sports authority website. every once in a while, they have sales like 25%-50% off one item, so thats a good time to buy a brand new one. but a real leather ball will not be "tacky", so get that idea out of your head right now...if thats what you want, go with spalding super tack
Real leather with no coat will absorb the water that's why Steve Nash licks his fingers and Lebron and kobe get their hands wet on their undershirt all the time

interesting, thanks!
As a Pistons fan, I died a little inside when you said your friend used an official game-used ball...Outside...The insanity man...
@dabadestalbo690 in the 90s, u can find pics of balls used in games without the logo and the team name enraved in like the ball in the video
Getting an old NBA basketball, the one used until 2006
Orly Ray I
Man every time I hoop with one of these I go nuts and make everything haha, and yes they are hard as a rock.
Facts
They’re nice to play with when you’re sweating and have grip.

I hate I missed getting a Spalding nba game ball when they were out. Selling any soon???
i never thought about it...

Pistons spelled backwards is snotsip 🤢🤮
The CAB ball might have tack coating on it. That's why it looked shiny and didn't absorb water as much.

Hey my son is looking for a really nice nba basketball would you sale one if you still have them
Do they have the spongy feeling when breaked in in ??

I’ll would buy the CDN or CAB basketball if your thinking of selling them
well, in order for us to get our hands on them, the game used balls almost have to be outdated (or at least older). but ya, that was for comparison purposes mainly.
Why are game used nba balls so hard to find? Could they have magnetic strips in them to rig games?
It's because they don't make them anymore

So should I get a c ball or a u ball?
You ever try a tf 100? I just got a hold of one.
Chilax s, Top Flite 1000?
NovaScotiaNewfie no the 100 it was made of leather the 1000 is composite
i KNOW its a game used ball...
i fill em until they have a good bounce. i maybe had to refill them three times in my life, but i dont think there is too much air in them
no offense taken.
i think the game used ball had nothing but bouncing done to it...(later in its life, it was played with outside, though)...
could you possibly be putting too much air in them?
thanks, brother!
Why do they use slick balls?
Paul James i believe the slick balls were primarily for autographs
Real leather with no coat will absorb the water that's why Steve Nash licks his fingers and Lebron and kobe get their hands wet on their undershirt all the time
